[atrb=valign, top] 23 FEMALE UNOVA ELITE FOUR HOMOSEXUAL NEUTRAL | [atrb=valign, top][atrb=style, border-left:1px solid #515151;] PERSONALITY First impressions of Caitlin are often only half-truths: the first thing one would notice about her is her cultured, distinctly upper class way of speaking. Using the royal “we” is not beyond Caitlin, and she does not need to put on airs in order to put on airs: she is regal, proud and often vain. Yet she is polite – or at least civil – and she can be quite friendly when the mood strikes her and she’s not too sleepy. Caitlin expects to be treated like a Princess, and if she can’t have that from the ignorant uncouth masses, she will settle for the respect due one of her station. Being a member of the Elite Four, she will get just that from many, and so she rarely has cause to unleash the full force of her ire on others. She is quite the chatterbox when she finds someone she believes is worthy of a civilised conversation – Caitlin tends to carry the entire conversation by herself, often going into great depth about the dreams she has, or the latest gossip she heard from this servant or that widow – and can be fairly pleasant company. However, Caitlin is the worst kind of aristocrat: one that puts herself above everyone else, and has actual justification to do just that. She is commanding – control is very important to Caitlin, for reasons that shall be explored shortly – and demanding, obnoxious, arrogant, egotistical, overbearing, precocious and, worst of all, just as good as she thinks she is. Caitlin is not given to overboast – she has been put in her place far too many times to brag – but she has a way of making her accomplishments stand out above everyone else’s. An articulate girl with a sharp tongue, Caitlin will peel off the skin of one unfortunate enough to cross her with her caustic words and very dry humour, and can argue with the best of them: she was given the finer things in life growing up, and this included an education that most would be hard-pressed to match. She doesn’t quite know everything, but she knows enough to put the commoners in their place if she needs to, or so she believes. Battling Caitlin with Pokémon is far safer than battling her with words; a testament indeed to her argumentative skills. Earning Caitlin’s ire is not difficult: existing tends to work just fine. The way she tells it, people were created just to make her suffer, and she is perhaps the only competent person on this planet. She is adept at picking out flaws in others, and if she cannot find a flaw, that in itself is a flaw: how inconsiderate, not giving her something to complain about! Caitlin seems to be forever complaining about something, although this is perhaps just her way of occupying herself when she is bored: much of the time her words ring hollow, and she rarely means what she says. It simply amuses her to come up with the most creative insults possible much of the time. There are a few who have earned Caitlin’s respect – although they are not who you might think they are; she regards Grimsley as “that thoughtless clown”, Marshal as “that bumbling oaf” and Shauntel as “that bookish drudge” – who she will dote on, and become quite sweet towards. These are, generally speaking, the people who expect nothing from her, or will treat her with the respect she feels she deserves. Often, she will assign nicknames to people, and these are telling indicators of how much she likes or dislikes someone…although the ones that are the most derogatory are those that she likes the most, oddly enough. Caitlin is never angry – for her to be angry would have dire consequences indeed – but is often irritable and highly impatient: things need to be done NOW, and they need to be done RIGHT, or she’s going to stamp her foot and glare daggers at the offender, and things are only going to escalate from there. Caitlin places herself in something of an awkward position being a perfectionist who never really wants to do anything for herself. Despite striking out for herself as a “free woman” and escaping her Valet – who she doesn’t miss, and don’t you dare suggest otherwise, or that foot is coming down! – Caitlin is still quite a lazy woman: she’s a member of the Unova Elite Four, what more do you want from her? It’s not like she’s going be able to beat that little girl and her beastly dragons…horrid, horrid creatures! Not at all like her beautiful, majestic Psychic types. Caitlin believes she has reached a point in life where things are just about “good enough” although the problem is that “good enough” is in fact “barely adequate” and it’s the fault of anyone other than hers. Accursed peasants. One might think, based on this, that Caitlin is a stuck-up, spoiled princess, and they would be right: arrogance was drilled into her from her earliest days, and has only been reinforced by her accomplishments, which she has worked for and has every right to brag about. However, Caitlin is quite a repressed and frustrated individual; her only concern is with what is right and proper, and this makes her homosexuality – Caitlin was raised by a very old-fashioned family who frowned upon these things…but thought nothing of cousins intermarrying to preserve the family bloodline, oddly enough – quite the problem for her. Caitlin loves female company, even if those females are beneath her (and they often are, to her way of thinking) although she instinctively pushes people away; she is a lady, and ladies do not have feelings, nor do they have friends. She is, in fact, quite a lonely person, and once one understands that about her, she becomes quite easy to understand. Caitlin, in fact, grows attached to people very quickly, although she does not show it in the normal fashion: simple kindness, and she will immediately become attached, and do her utmost to drive that person away with insults and cold words. It’s just how she is. Only her former Valet, Darach, really understood her, and perhaps the one thing that she wants above all else is to find a woman who understands her in the same way. It’s a rather tragic life but, well, one does what one must. Caitlin is a very controlled individual, however. Born with psychic abilities tied directly to her emotions, for her to grow angry would have dire consequences. Caitlin’s anger would like make even a Gyarados cower, as things quite literally begin to fly, explode, crumble to dust, or glow a rather unsettling deep pink…why deep pink, she’s never been able to figure out, and she’s too far gone to care by that point. However, it has been several years since Caitlin lost her temper, and not even the most irritating of individuals can make her reach this point: this is, perhaps, why Caitlin is so arrogant. Far better for her to see someone as beneath her than to literally hammer them into the ground beneath her. Caitlin is a very complex woman few will take the time to understand, for she gives them no reason to and, indeed, will go out of her way to drive them off once she senses they are trying to get closer to her. Putting up with her is an achievement far greater than defeating her in battle. For the moment, she follows her duty, rather than her heart: she is a member of the Elite Four but, first and foremost, she is a lady. Whether she will ever follow her heart and cast aside her antiquated perceptions remains to be seen… POKEMON Symphony, Female Gothitelle Shadow Tag Calm Mind; Psychic; Thunder Wave Dark Pulse; Heal Bell; Hyper Beam Waltz, Genderless Metagross Clear Body Meteor Mash; Earthquake; Agility Zen Headbutt; Hammer Arm; Explosion Harmony, Female Gardevoir Trace Calm Mind; Psyshock; Stored Power Thunderbolt; Energy Ball; Will-O-Wisp Crescendo, Male Gallade Justified Swords Dance; Stone Edge; Night Slash Close Combat; Psycho Cut; X-Scissor Finale, Male Alakazam Magic Guard Calm Mind; Psychic; Shadow Ball Recover; Focus Blast; Disable Arietta, Female Espeon Magic Bounce Calm Mind; Signal Beam; Psychic Wish; Detect; Grass Knot IN PC serebii.net/pokedex-bw/icon/518.png |
