[atrb=valign, top] 27 FEMALE HOENN GYM LEADER BISEXUAL HEROES | [atrb=valign, top][atrb=style, border-left:1px solid #515151;] PERSONALITY Winona is something of a thrill seeker: she is never truly more alive than when she is in the air, flying on one of her Pokémon; it brings her joy like nothing else in life can, and she could no more easily give it up than she could give up breathing. The higher the altitude and the more savage the weather, the better. Many think Winona mad for risking her life in storms for the simple pleasure of doing it, and perhaps she is: she is a woman who laughs in the face of Mother Nature, riding the strongest currents of air and daring the elements to strike her down for her impudence, if they think they can catch her Pokémon. She has had several near-death experiences in her life, and there is nothing quite like it for her. It infuses her with an energy that makes her very pleasant to be around: kind-hearted, patient and always willing to lend a sympathetic ear, Winona has a larger-than-life aura brought about by her rather strange hobby of putting her life at risk every time the weather turns bad. She draws a strange kind of strength from it, one that she can only describe as a reaffirmation of life: you are never more truly alive than when you are on the brink of death, and coming within inches of dying makes you appreciate just how beautiful life really is. Winona is a woman who appreciates everything life has to offer her, who takes pleasure in the smallest things, and is content to allow life to take her wherever it wishes to take her. Despite her open and friendly manner, Winona is intensely private. Whilst not a pessimist, she still feels isolated from others: nobody can really understand what she feels when she is up in the clouds, or understand why she puts her life at risk so often; it is something she can only share with those who do it for the same reasons, and it is not something that can really be put into words. She has many friends and admirers, but she is reluctant to let any of them any further into her heart than is necessary to satisfy their curiosity: there were two exceptions to this rule, one being Flannery, and the other being her former partner, who did quite a job of ensuring that she would not make the same mistake twice and allow a third such person into her life, and Flannery, whilst supportive, is a girl who likes her feet firmly on the ground. Winona enjoys talking to others, and is always willing to offer a listening ear, or some sage advice – although she’s far too young to be giving such advice, just for the record, so don’t get any ideas – but she is reluctant to talk about herself, or her own experiences. It’s just something that makes her uncomfortable, and that is all she is willing to say on the subject when pressed. When not in the air, Winona often feels as though she is incomplete, or somehow less for it, and whilst this does not show itself for some time, she NEEDS to be up in the air again within twelve hours, or she begins to feel quite depressed and experiences a very painful ache of longing. She starts and ends her days with a flight to sustain herself, and is up in the air at the first sight of a storm or strong wind brewing, and this keeps her going as much as anything else in her life, if not more. Despite this, however, Winona does not have her head in the clouds: for her, being on the ground is much like dreaming. It is all real, and all that matters, until she is back up in the air again, or “awake” as such. In matters of the heart, Winona is even more cautious, if such a thing were possible. She has had her fair share of romance, and the heartbreak to go with it. She is convinced, perhaps, that there is nobody out there who is really “right” for her, and has begun to question her sexuality as a result, for the company of men does little to inspire her…at least, not since her last relationship. A traditional romantic who often finds it difficult to feel anything other than when she is flying on her Pokémon, Winona looks for people who can make her feel alive in the same way that flying does; someone who makes life worth living. Despite her reserved nature, Winona is a highly sensual person who experiences a wide range of deep and complex emotions that are tied inextricably to her thoughts, and she has a very good sense of herself; she trusts her instincts, but knows when to listen to what her head is telling her, making her a very balanced individual, arguably complete by herself. It is difficult for her to experience feelings for another, because these are things that she cannot control – and whilst control is not so important for one who flies even in the most unpredictable weather, it is nonetheless desirable in oneself – and they inevitably lead to pain. These days, Winona is a much harder and more focused woman than she was before, since the destruction of Fortree City. She rarely smiles – not even around Flannery, her closest friend, which annoys the other to no end – and seems to be focused solely on her duty: gone is the carefree, cheerful woman who liked to give children rides on her Pokémon. She is still there, of course, for the sake of appearances, but she is a hollow shell; the part of her that knew how to laugh and have fun is gone. Now, there is always a touch of sadness in her voice, or in her eyes, and she chases storms with a frenzy, trying to find out what is causing them…or, perhaps, hoping that they’ll strike her down and end it once and for all. Winona bottles her feelings up and deals with them in her own way; in the clouds, by herself, where she can be herself without judgement or reprisal. Where she can feel what she likes, and be whoever she wants, and not have to worry about the things that shackle her to the ground when she isn’t airborne. This is not to say that she resents her position, or her responsibilities; on the contrary, she is moderately content with the life she leads. But…it’s just not the same as when she is up in the sky. In the sky, she belongs. It’s that simple, and that complex, all at once. Her actions now suggest a woman who is torn between grief and an overwhelming sense of powerlessness who feels as though she must be a pillar of strength for the people of Fortree City, but is struggling, for she feels as though she has nobody to turn to herself, and the sky itself seems to be rejecting her with these storms. She was like this for months after her break-up, throwing herself headfirst into distractions and danger, but this time is distinctly different…not only does it affect all those around her, but she has a potential source for her anger. The idea that there is a group of people out there somewhere manipulating flying-type Legendary Pokémon for their own twisted ambitions is a violation of everything she holds dear, and if it is true and not just down to rumour, then this group has already cost her her hometown of Fortree City – which she is currently assisting in rebuilding, although it is difficult to rebuild trees, let alone the houses built on them, and it is doubtful that the city will be the same in her lifetime – and several other places have been destroyed also. The skies have always been merciless, but never quite so destructive, and these storms, they upset the way of things. They upset Winona’s Pokémon, and they upset Winona, who is heavily affected by the state of the weather. Storms no longer bring her the joy that they used to. Since the destruction of her hometown, then, Winona has become withdrawn, and almost bitter. Everything she knew and loved has been destroyed, and one way or the other, she is determined to find out who is responsible for this and make sure they are made to answer for their crimes, for whilst she has heard rumours only, she knows the skies, and these storms are hardly natural occurrences. Whilst she is not one to sit idly by and allow others to abuse Pokémon as they please in the first place, this is extremely personal for Winona, and she is driven to do something about it. To say that she has become obsessed may be stretching it – although many certainly seem to think she has become obsessed; she is a much harder woman now than she was before, and whilst she doesn’t openly show it, one who knows her can pick it up in her body language, tone of voice and facial expressions, especially when the topic comes up – but it is certainly one of the more dominating goals in her life at this moment. She is a rational, level-headed woman who prefers to think things through before she acts, but when confronted with something like this, it is difficult to tell what she might be capable of, or how she will react… POKEMON Zedd, Male Natu (Perched on her shoulder much of time; never used in battle) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Drace, Female Swellow Guts Agility; Twister; Air Slash Ominous Wind; Heat Wave; Swift Amelia, Female Skarmory Sturdy Steel Wing; Night Slash; X-Scissor Swords Dance; Roost; Fly Eirika, Female Altaria Natural Cure Dragon Pulse; Flamethrower; Ice Beam Roost; Mist; Fly Seth, Male Tropius Solar Power Sunny Day; Body Slam; Air Slash Outrage; Synthesis; Leaf Storm Ephraim, Male Pidgeot Keen Eye Wing Attack; Whirlwind; Featherdance U-Turn; Steel Wing; Giga Impact Grace, Female Togekiss Serene Grace Aura Sphere; Nasty Plot; Fire Blast Extrasensory; Signal Beam; Air Slash IN PC serebii.net/pokedex-bw/icon/396.png |
