green kicked a small pebble along the dirt road of viridian city. his infamous green eyes roamed the broken city. despite the fact the city had been left in ruins a while ago, he couldn't get over the fact that he let his city be torn to ruins. it made his blood boil that a person, no, that people did this to his city. though the city was in the midsts of re-building, green was sure it'd never be restored to it's former glory.
really, no city destoryed would return to it's former glory, but green only cared for his city. mainly for the fact it was his city alone, no one else was supposed to protect it. only he was, because he was the only one worthy of holding the title. there was no one who could've protected his city and he failed as a gym leader and a citizen.
the whole thing was completely shitty in green's eyes.
just the thought of it made him lose his temper, something that rarely happen. it was spur of the moment, on a random whim that the kicked a nearby garbage can. he exhaled harshly after he did. he was supposed to be cool, calm and collected, but the thought of his city being reduced to ruins just couldn't sit with him properly. then again, he couldn't remember the last time he was in a full-state of collection. green wasn't who he thought he was, and he knew that too.
right now, he was nothing more than a hollow skin of his old self.
It hadn't been that long ago at all now, but the memory of going from doing the dishes before going out to the store at one minute to huddling petrified in the corner of the basement to the next. That silence, too--the one that greeted her when she stepped outside--had burned itself somewhere into the depths of her mind. Oh, she hoped she would never hear anything of its ilk again. It was fortunate for her, then, that the ruins of the city were echoing with the sounds of reconstruction.
She hoped she could return someday to see it in its former glory, if not even better than it was. If she had anything to offer to the city, or to its people, then perhaps she would be staying. She was just a timid little breeder, though. Everyone who was not helping with the rebuilding efforts had been sent away to temporary living spaces, where they could await the day their homes were rebuilt. She was not strong, and she did not have many skills. Why, then, did she feel so bad for leaving? She tried to ignore that sense of guilt, but it simply would not leave her be, even as all around her were the growing fruits of the labor these good people were putting into fixing the town.
A figure, strange and familiar at the same time, managed to catch her eye in the midst of the hustle and bustle. She stood there for a moment or two, trying to remember where she had seen him before. Whoever he was, he seemed upset, or more appropriately angry, judging by the way he kicked over a trashcan. A part of her wondered why people did things like that when they were angry; what did it achieve?
But no matter. She felt a little awkward, approaching the stranger-but-not-stranger and not fully recalling who he was, but she needed to walk out of this town feeling like she had helped at least someone.
"Sir?" she offered quietly, timidly. She hoped she wasn't bothering him. "A-are you alright?"
sir? first of all, green was sure he wasn't that old, heck, he was still in his early twenties and was pretty sure no one really called people in their twenties old, or sir for that matter. his gaze moved from the garbage can to the woman who had just addressed him by such a name. he turned his body with his head slightly, so he didn't have to strain his neck to see her.
she seemed alright, nothing overly exciting, nothing too gorgeous. typical girl-next-door, green scoffed at that thought mentally. she was nothing compared to him, why was he going to bother answering her?
oh right, it would've been impolite to not do so.
then again, when was green ever truely polite these days. he wasn't sure himself, but assumed it was on rare occasions. "speak up, i can't hear you properly." he said.
which was a lie, but green didn't care all that much. he could tell she was the shy-kind of girl that got on his nerves. he wasn't into people who couldn't speak up properly. speak to be heard, not to be ignored. that's what he thought on the topic, but he figured it wasn't his place to overly judge to woman. he wasn't the perfect man either. over-confident and arrogant, yes. stupid, obviously not. "and no, i feel like shit. do you think i'm okay?"
green asked.
there was a hint of sarcasm and snark in his tone of voice, but he hoped it wasn't too much. he did try his best to hold back, but you can't hide your personality, you can only hide your attitude. both of which green had no reason to hide since, he didn't even know this woman. [/div][/div]

he stranger-but-not stranger turned around to face her, and for half a moment, she became somewhat preoccupied with his eyes. It was like something in her head was taking it as a clue, but for the life of her, she could not figure out what it was. There was something about the green that flooded his eyes like vibrant waters. Something...
Green! Green Oak. She'd heard about him around town and on the news for years now. How silly of her to forget! He was the gym leader, and so something of a leader in the city itself. Honestly, she wasn't sure how she could forget about someone as well-known around town, and maybe even beyond that, as him.
When Green started to speak, his words came out like acid.
"Oh, um, I'm sorry," she stammered out, trying to raise her voice a little so that he might hear her better. Usually, she thought she did alright, but maybe today, she was just a little bit nervous, since she was officially leaving the town she had lived in all her life for the first time (barring her failed excursion at twelve). Maybe that was why she seemed so quiet today.
He went on to answer her question in spite of that, and in return, she frowned a frown of concern. "What's wrong?" she ventured to ask, even though she was getting the distinct feeling that he didn't exactly want to talk to her. She almost thought better of staying here to continue the conversation, but at the same time, she was still determined to at least try to improve something here before she took her leave. To think that that thing might be this gym leader, someone leagues beyond her in many ways, was probably more than a bit foolish.
But if she let herself get discouraged here, what would happen after she left? Would she get discouraged there, too, and decide to turn around? But there was nothing to turn around to! She had no place to stay here; her house was, for better or for worse, a pile of rubble with sharp teeth, if the cuts on her legs and arm had anything to say about it.
She wouldn't let herself be dissuaded in the future, and so she resolved to not allow herself to be dissuaded here!
green resisted the urge to roll his eyes, or spur out another snarky comment. apologies, he didn't need apologies, they did nothing to him but make his mood even more sour. really, the world could've been a better place if everyone could just man-up instead of being so insecure or shy.
green just shook his head slightly, just blowing off the apology. he figured he didn't need to say anything. he didn't ask for an apology, and she had no reason to apologize.
though, to say the least he heart her apology better than he heard her original words. so there was a slight improvement, slightly at the least.
green noticed how her mouth curved downward. he wasn't sure why though. sympathy? concern? pity? whatever she was feeling, he didn't need it. he only needed to look out for himself after all. that's all he needed to do, that and take care of his city. but the shambles that haunted him where ever he looked proved to him he couldn't do that.
whatever, he'd make it up for it. he'd take back the un-spoken pride he'd lost. green was sure of it.
he glared at the girl. what was wrong? everything was wrong, his city was in shambles. his pride was broken, and he couldn't fix it unless he went to find whoever did this. he couldn't leave though, in case that they came back. to ruin his city once again. he was conflicted on what to do, but he knew he wanted to get back his pride. somehow, some way.
"look around, does anything look right to you?" green asked.
he tried his best to keep his tone under control. cool and calm, after his original outburst he wanted to bring some face back to himself. he really needed to bring back a lot to himself, maybe along the way he'd make himself some friends.
probably not though.
"viridian is in shambles."
he stated. it was obvious from a first glance at the city, but he felt the need to state it. just in case this girl lacked sight, as well as confidence.
