Platinum had made it all the way to Johto on her own. Her pokemon were away in their balls and now she was kept, stopped in a city. She stood, absolutely still. Goldenrod City had never seemed so daunting before. Platinum's hand was curled into a small, gentle fist as she stared up at the building before her. The building where everything could get ugly, where everything could go horribly wrong.
It had been a month or two since she had begun travelling Johto - on her own, she might add - and she had since come across the largest city in the region, the one where everything happened. It made her happy, it made her intrigued but most of all it made her scared. Scared because of the building that lay before her.
The last time she had stepped foot in a game corner had been against her will. She had Diamond and Pearl tell her not to gamble any more, and a man had convinced her to help him instead. She had merely watched for hours and hours, training hard to make certain she would win the gym battle even just by watching. Her reaction time had been flawless, but she had since avoided the places, knowing that she could so easily fall into the trap of spending thousands of dollars for the thrill of winning a prize.
Her fist unclenched and she frowned a little. Surely it would be a little different than the game corner in Sinnoh. She would be able to tell herself no after a few rounds, would she not?
But no, she had made a promise.
As if this was enough, Platinum turned away from the building, determined to step away but completely unable. She wanted to go in, but she knew she shouldn't. She was torn in different directions and didn't know which way to turn.
[style=height:450;width:290;overflow:auto;padding:10px;text-align:justify;margin-top:20px;margin-bottom:10px;margin-left:145px;]Goldenrod City, it was such a wonderful place full of life. Maybe that was why Gold tended to come here often whenever he found himself having free time. He enjoyed the Pokeathlon and all of its many actives. But what he enjoyed the most about Goldenrod City was of course the gambling that went down at the Game Corner. From the slot machines, to the card games it was truly a wonderful place to be.
He had case full of shiny gold coins that he'd be using to waste away one of the few free days he had in awhile. As he neared the game corner however his attention was drawn away from, why? Because he a rather attractive female had just turned away from it, and was simply standing there..still. Gold stopped a few feet in front of her and found himself just looking at her, and look of confusion on his face.
"You just going to stand there all day, or are you going to walk inside?" he asked a smile on his face, Gold didn't know why he was talking to the random stranger other than maybe he was just trying to be friendly. He looked over at the coin case that was in his hands and then back at the girl, "If you don't have any coins I'm sure I can share some of mine."

No, she decided, she was going to walk away. She was going to. Platinum adjusted her scarf, loosening it from around her neck as she made to start moving away. Except when she went to start moving, she remained still, pulled behind the navel towards the building that she was trying so desperately to move away from.
Platinum's nose wrinkled, her eyebrows creasing into a frown for a few moments before she was shocked out of her own annoyance at herself by the sounds of someone's voice so close by. She looked up to see a face that was remarkably similar to her own somehow staring at her. The young man probably thought she was strange, having been so still and so conflicted.
She softened her features into a stoic face and offered a quizzical look instead. "Thank you for the offer, but I am not in need of coins. My family has a great number of them already. It is not the coins that forbids me from entering, it is my conscience. It has been a long while since I allowed myself entrance into a place like this and I am certain my friends would be disappointed were I to disobey their wishes."
She glanced back at the game corner, then at the case that he held. Her own coin case was stored neatly inside her bag, kept there for years upon years. She chewed softly on her lip for a few moments. Guiltily she thought about the time she accompanied the man into the corner, assisting him in his wins. Perhaps if she did so again, and this boy was so kind as to allow her...
"But if you are entering, perhaps I may accompany you and watch. It would probably be wiser for me not to participate in the games." There that was an excuse to go in at least, she didn't have to play. Nosiree, she could just sit and watch.
[style=height:450;width:290;overflow:auto;padding:10px;text-align:justify;margin-top:20px;margin-bottom:10px;margin-left:145px;]Gold blinked hearing the girl response to his offer to share his joins with her. His mind wondering off to why she was speaking so...what was the word he was looking for. Ah yes, formal not that it made him mad or anything it was just odd being talked to like that. Gold cleared his throat, "So...your not going inside because your friends wouldn't like it?" Gold questioned readjusting the coin case that rested under his arms. "I guess I can understand that..." he said, it was lie Gold hardly listen to the bickering of his friends. If he did he'd have stopped flirting with half the girls he came across because Crystal didn't really like it. Speaking of flirting...as weird as it would be to flirt with someone who he couldn't help but feel kinda looked like him, he was going to do it anyway.
"Sure you can accompany me into the building and watch. Lady Luck tends to side with the pretty girls anyway." he smiled as he let the words escape from his lips, and after doing so he turned and headed for the doors. They slid open as Gold got closer to the door allowing him to walk inside. His ears were hit with the sound of the game corner music, and of course with the sounds of the slot machine being played. Assuming that the girl was following him Gold headed towards one of the slot machines, and sat down his coin being placed on his lap after doing so. He opened it and one could see what looked to be about one hundred coins inside, not a lot but it was enough for Gold to work with.
After always go play cards and cheat his way into the bigger money, it be really easy for him to do. Though...he did have a bad rep here for being known as a cheater, but hey people can change can't they? Gold took three coins and slid them into the machine watching as it began to spin. His hand went to the lever and he pulled once, twice, and then three times a frown formed on his face as he missed the seven by two places.
He picked up more coins and placed them into the machine before turning to face girl he had just met. "I'm Gold by the way, and who might you be?"
"Exactly, I must keep my word, they requested I promise and I do not want to lose teh credibility of my word." Relieved, Platinum nodded back in acknowledgement. At least this young man had as much respect (as far as she knew, she didn't know the terrible cheekiness of his mind!) for his friends as she did, and could understand why she wouldn't want to betray them. Her fingers curled into fists and opened again, taking a few moments to straighten out her thoughts and to regain at least a little self-motivatoin. Neither Diamond or Pearl were there, she wouldn't be fined any amount by Pearl for breach of contract, and she wouldn't have to explain why she wanted to go in so much. The urge to gamble played on her mind, but she knew it was all for the better. "Sometimes we must do things for our friends, even if it sacrifices our own wishes to do so." She mused softly, almost under her breath. It was what she had to live by some days, she just had to remind herself of it - it was, after all, very easy to want to spoil oneself also.
The flirtatious comment flew over and away from Platinum's thought processes and she merely smiled simply in response. So naiive to flirting and to the art of romance (except what she'd read) she was that the comment went in one ear and out the other. She followed after almost hastily, a spring in her step far too clear as she passed over the threshold into the corner. The wave of sounds, smells and general assault on the eyes was almost too much and the dex holder nearly broke down there and then, her hand instinctively moving to her bag.
But she would resist! She would persevere and instead help this young man to side with Lady Luck, whomever that may be. Perhaps she was the owner of the establishment, she mused, and if she sided with women only then she should probably mention that to someone as it would surely be a breach of conduct. She had paused for just a moment to admire when she realised that Gold had already settled himself beside a slot machine. She pressed through the people and shimmied a seat in next to his machine. As if it was natural, she pulled out her own coin case and flicked it open. "If you time it correctly, the machine will do much of the work for you. See when the Clefairy appear? That is when you ought to stop the machine, it will make everything easier, too." She mumbled as he missed the seven. "And the machine slows a little if you allow it to spin for an extra few seconds, giving you better perception of where it may stop."
Platinum fiddled idly with the case, itching to prove to the boy beside her that she was as adept at this as he, and that she could be rather tactful about the way she gambled. However, she had promised. The latch was flicked open and closed, rows of the glistening coings just waiting to be used. But no, she couldn't and she wouldn't. No sir.
Idle chit-chat would make a good distraction she decided at almost the same moment that he offered her his name. Her mind flicked through the things she had read and the stories about the Pokedex Holders before her, and she looked up at him in mild confusion. "Gold? Are you a Pokedex Holder also? The Gold who assisted in the defeat of the Masked Man so many years ago?" There was definitely an awe in her voice. She had admired the heroes of the Johto and Kanto region long before she had been granted a pokedex of her own due to her family's work in researching. "I apologise for my rudeness. I am Platinum Berlitz, Pokedex Holder from the Sinnoh region and heiress to the Berlitz company. It is a pleasure to make your acquaitance, Gold." She inclined her head softly towards him.
Thankfully they were in a crowded place so she could not curtsey.
Looking puzzled for a few moments, she glanced around the game corner, twisting the case in her hands as she thought about it. It was funny, she supposed, that her pokedex did not make the noise it did when she met up with Diamond and Pearl. The different regions must not have the same compatibility -- either that or he was a conman impersonating the great hero. She searched her mind for the images she had seen of Gold when he had been in the news, but he had been so young then and it had been so long ago that they were struggling to appear in her brain.
"Did Professor Oak send you to the game corner for a special assignment? I thought the holders here in Johto would be working for the great man himself at the very least.." She mused, mildly jealous that they so readily had the opportunity to work with and around Professor Oak, lead Pokemon researcher in the world. After all, it was both her mother and her own dream to share information with him. He must be doing work for him, he simply must.
[style=height:450;width:290;overflow:auto;padding:10px;text-align:justify;margin-top:20px;margin-bottom:10px;margin-left:145px;]Gold let his eyes wonder from his machine as the girl began to tell him a better way to play the slots. It was rather funny to him really, he had been playing the slots here in Goldenrod City since he was kid but he had never really bothered to pick up on that stuff. He could only assume that it was because he preferred to cheat his way into earning the big bucks rather than do it fairly like everyone else in the Game Corner. That was really what set him a part from everyone else he figured, and he was actually about to give the girl's suggestion a try when he took notice of her playing with the coin case on her lap. He forced back a sly smile and instead chuckled, "I understand that you not wanting to play because of the promise you made your friends, but look at yourself." he said.
"Clearly just being in here is making you wanting to play with those coins." Gold gave the girl a smile, "So why don't you just play the game once, at least show me how to do that thing you explained." he was being mean and he knew it. He could help it however, something about watching the girl freak out and try to fight her urge made Gold want to laugh. He also just wanted to see if he could actually make her break her word, it was a curl thing to do but who said Gold was always nice?
At the mention of his defeating of the Masked Man Gold let another smile appear on his face, "Yes that was me and my friends, but I was the one to deal the final blow to the ball holding Celebi." answered Gold, he left out the part about who the Masked Man really was because he didn't feel like bring back up old memories. Hearing the awe in Platinum's voice really did make him smile, and it wasn't one of those 'hey she's so hot so let me smile at her' smiles. It was more of the kind that one gave when they were feeling good.
Gold took hold of Platinum's hand and held it out in front of him and then placing a kiss on the back of it. He looked up at her his gold eyes holding what couldn't have been mistaken for anything less than lust. "Its pleasure to meet you Platinum, its not everyday someone gets to meet a girl as pretty yourself." there was again with the flirting, thank god Crystal wasn't around. Gold was sure that if she was, he'd have been hit in the back of the head, and all of his flirting shot down before it could have any effect on Platinum.
He let go of the girl's hand and rose an eyebrow at the mention of Professor Oak, "That old man? No he didn't send me here, this is more of pleasure thing." he said with a sigh escaping from his lips, "The last time I spoke to the old guy he wanted me to go after the Pokemon Arceus, and that battle did not end well for me." he muttered to himself, but he was sure it came out loud enough for Platinum to hear. "Though if your interest in what he's doing I could always introduce you to him."

This person was a bad influence. Her father had warned her against men of a similar nature to Gold, people who would tell her to do things that she was not supposed to do. Her father had said that included "soiling her person" but she did not believe that it had anything to do with gaming machines - of which this person was trying to influence her into using the devices that had gotten her into so much trouble previously. She could imagine Pearl's voice in her head, telling her that he would fine her a great amount of money for breaking their word. And as she did so she also heard the "chingchingching" of the machines and their taking and giving of the thrill it had so many times earlier.
"I want to, yes, but there is rules that everyone must follow in lives. Breaking them can be quite uncomfortable, and my friends would feel betrayed. I would never want to harm them in any way. Surely you have a relationship similar with the other Pokedex holders of your region?" She asked softly, folding her hands over the coin case once again. She was itching to play, but she was loyal and true when it came to Diamond and Pearl. She would not let them down for fear of losing them entirely. After all, Pearl was already barely around and she only was able to see Diamond on a rare occassion.
Her lips pursed as she looked up at him for a few moments, as if contemplating why he would want her to break her word to her closest friends. Did he not have anyone who was so important to him that he would do anything for them? Obviously not.
"I read about your part in the defeat of the villain, I believe you are truthful in saying this and wish to thank you greatly. The world would be a different place were the Masked Man to continue his journey." She shook her head as she looked away, a faint blush on her cheeks. It was not from any sort of flirting but merely the fact that she was in the presence of one of her seniors, an important member of society. She too had assisted in the defeat of an evil organisation, but the Masked Man could have changed the course of history. She could not quite say that about Team Galactic, unless they had been able to change reality.
Taking her hand, Platinum was confused by the sudden stare. She dropped her hand back into her lap after the kiss and tilted her head. "Thank you for your kind words, they are appreciated," She stated back quite simply, missing the lust and want in his eyes and voice. She was unattainable that way, completely oblivious to people coming onto her. It was probably one of her most negative points as creepy and lusty were easily mistaken for awe and admiration in her eyes, and she would follow people who were to ask her to do so without much coaxing.
"A pleasure thing? You must enjoy it greatly to be doing it during working hours." She tilted her head to the side as he sighed, "I am sure the professor would not send you on a mission he did not believe you could handle, even if you lost the battle there are always other options." She stated, reaching out to pat him on the shoulder. She looked stunned for a minute, before awe once more splashed over her young features. "You would take me to meet the Professor? I would be thrilled, my father has met him only once and he is a great researcher. I would be most appreciative if you were to do this. Perhaps we should leave at once!" She stated, clearly excited.
