Akari stretched up her arms, working out the kinks and tiredness in her arms. All in a day's work as Head Ranger of Johto, as usual.
She drank in the comforting feeling of the cool night breeze of Olivine City. It had a salty tang, brought out by being a seaport city. There was a dreamy, melancholic feeling to it. And when she gets that feeling, so does the urge to have a drink or two.
Luckily, there were many pubs in the city, where sailors from all over spend their nights in boisterous laughter and merriment. They were rather rough and tumble as far as bars go, but Akari wasn't complaining. Sometimes, it was fun to watch them, and it gave her a feeling of satisfaction as a Head Ranger, in that she could keep the peace in the region so people were free to celebrate like that. Though, there were quieter bars in Olivine, having a drunken group of sailors was practically a common sight in every single one, and so they were unavoidable no matter where she went. So she just chose the pub that caught her fancy, and coincidentally, one where she'd never been to. Being a regular drinker, Akari had gone to countless bars and pubs, and there were only a few that she'd never been to.
Well, nothing like the present to try out a new one, right? And who knows, she might end up liking it and becoming a regular in there, too.
That was the deal with life, right? Things got messy; there was a cycle. After years of peace, years of tranquility, there was bound to be some sort of upset to the natural world. What goes around comes back around, right? Like that belief, the one where darkness needed to exist in order for light to exist as well. No happiness without and pain. Well, this was a time of pain, and they, the heroes, would get through it.
Right?
Blue Starna found herself lacking. Lacking in energy, lacking in hope, just lacking. Her every bone was tired, aching from all of the traveling to find and assist others. She could feel herself creak, broken, strained, just like all the other Dex Holders would be feeling. Should be feeling. A sigh escaped her pursed lips -- were they trying as hard as she was? As hard as Crystal was? There hadn't been a peep from Red, Green was "busy," and the rest of them? She scoffed, her hands pushing against a wooden door that led her into a local establishment. Despite the destruction that was wrought upon Olivine, a few places like this one still stood, strong and present. Blue gave into to her desires and took a seat beside a girl who looked like she could be about her age. It was time for a drink...right?

Akari was about to take a drink when she sensed another person sitting beside her. Blinking her eyes open, the Ranger glanced to the side to find another girl, a long-haired brunet looking rather tired. A faint recognition sparked in Akari's mind but she brushed it off with her own tiredness and a sip of her drink.
The temporary numbing feeling felt good in this lethargic night. The bar wasn't jam-packed, but there was still a lot of people for some buzzing chatter in the air. Akari then gulped the rest of her drink down, the cold ice and burning alcohol was both a familiar taste and feeling to her now. As her eyes strayed to her new seatmate again, Akari could feel her curiosity growing. Usually, she wasn't one to pry into the lives of people she sat next to in bars. It was like a drinker's code of ethics or something. The people who usually broke those were the overly friendly ones, the ones with ulterior motives, or those who were too drunk to think properly.
Wordlessly, Akari pushed her glass forward, and the bartender refilled her glass after giving her seatmate's order. Akari spoke, "A tiring day, huh?"
It took a few lasting moments for the bartender to return with her order -- it was her intention to get completely hammered, and she had no time to lose. Blue threw back some of her alcoholic beverage as a voice sounded out, seemingly directed at her. Quickly, the Dex Holder gulped down a good bit, the glass clanging back to the table as she let out a sigh of relief. Her eyes aligned with the girl's -- did she seem familiar? Even in the slightest? Maybe not, she thought, letting the faint trace of familiarity slide. Blue let out a small chuckle that could easily be identified as a release of frustration.
"Tiring day, tiring month, tiring year...take your pick." a soft smirked distorted her porcelain features as she threw back another gulp of beer. "How about you?" she quipped, glancing at the girl once more before taking a look around the bar. It really was quite a nice group, not too many people, but not too little. Blue let the stench of man and alcohol invade her mind as she awaited a reply, attempting to forget her own struggles. "These Knights, you know? They're just...they're driving me wild." she admitted, half hoping that she was a Knight, ready to end her troubles here and now.
"I'm Blue, by the way. Gotta make some friends around these parts, right?"

The Johto Head Ranger tucked a long strand of her hair behind her ear. She wasn't used to having it this long, but she had been busy with work and mourning to have time to cut it. She made a mental note to cut it one of these days, though she was also aware it might be forgotten so easily with all her responsibilities. Unlike her calm gulps, the other girl was downing her drink carelessly, the glass clanging loudly on the table when she set it down. Akari chuckled.
"Same here. My job can be tiring, but I've learned to live with it." She shrugged. "Or in my case, learn how to let the alcohol wash away the tiredness." She shook her glass, the ice cubes bouncing against the walls of the container, before she took another gulp. "Though, thanks to the Knights, I've been finding my workload doubled. I find myself looking for a drink more often these days." She said conversationally.
Akari nodded and smiled. "Indeed. Well, you can call me Akari. Nice to meet you."
Blue smiled softly, listening to her acquaintance intently. Her eyes stayed locked on her mug of beer, which she lifted once again for another swig. "Oh, what do you do?" she wondered aloud, scanning the woman for any sign of an answer before taking her drink. She sighed with pleasure, nodding. "I know what you mean." Blue cooed emphatically. One more sip, she thought to herself, raising the glass and finishing the rest of it.
"Another, please." she told the bartender, who complied. Blue looked over at the girl, Akari...she really did look quite familiar. "I've been spending all of my time...all of my time trying to find people to combat them. People are dropping off of the face of the Earth, you know?" she chuckled, shaking her head slowly, frustration rising to her visage. "Right when you need them most, you know?" her chuckle rose to a laugh, beckoning the bartender again.

Akari sighed, a tired smile playing on her lips. "I'm a Ranger." Well, actually, she was the Head Ranger of Johto but she didn't go announcing that to everyone she met. Her rank didn't change what her job was, which is to help people and Pokemon. Being Head Ranger just meant more responsibilities (and paperwork) than the usual. Most Johto citizens knew of her, though some was more aware of her by name rather than her face. "What about you?" She asked in return. In another angle of the light, Akari was finding the other girl rather familiar as well. Perhaps she was famous? The thought nudged at her mind, her drink perhaps making her mind less sharp than it should be. Blue was her name, wasn't it? Surely not a common one...
Brown eyes watched the beads of water sliding down the glass. "You may not be able to find them now, but perhaps when you do need them the most, they will be there. It's like a funny twist of fate or something." Akari hid a smile as the harried bartender quickly rushed to refill Blue's orders. "Besides, it's not like we Rangers aren't fighting them. Though, we still prioritize the safety of the citizens, so we're more focused on rebuilding Johto right now."
