Nuvema could feel like home now and then. In fact, when Mei was on the other side of her region, Nuvema felt a lot like she was home. Once in her travels she had walked in and been mistaken for someone else, and in a very Mei way she had laughed it off - over and over until she had worked out that it really could have been easy to mistake them from behind. Now and then, when she felt like exploring, she would venture to that sleepy town and enjoy the peace that it offered.
Especially now, since it was safe from the horrid storms that had ravaged the other regions and her own hometown. Mei couldn't deny that when she was in Nuvema town she was slightly jealous. They had been saved from the horrors of seeing their home destroyed where she and her friends had all felt the stabbing pain of seeing everyone they knew in turmoil. But at the same time for her it could be an escape. Camping on the edges of town was an easy way to get away from all the stress she'd experienced being home bound for so long.
Perhaps it was that need to get away from home that had driven her to the little town where both the leader of Aspertia's gym and the trainers who had come before her had started their journey. She had been cooped up for so long in Aspertia that she had barely walked anywhere. So long was she injured and unable to travel on her own the venture was somewhat trivial to her.
The brunette glanced sideways at the Arcanine who hovered protectively on the outskirts of her camp, and the Espeon who was curled up by the campfire. It was peaceful though, even at night when the dark scared her. She had the light from the fire and the air to breathe. She knew she had to learn to get used to the nighttime again. Her terror couldn't take her and she was safe here in Nuvema. The sleepy town was safe.
Eyes flicked to the border of the town, not far from where she'd made stop for the night. In the morning she would greet the citizens she knew, but for now she watched the fire and enjoyed the crackling noises whilst she battled her internal demons, screaming at her for keeping them out there in that horrid, horrid dark.
Much to her chagrin, Mei shivered in slight discomfort. No, she could do this. She had to.
Fear was beginning to set in - the paranoia of being in the dark - and she glanced at the enormous fire type who had sensed her unease. Callypso, somewhat amusedly, breathed extra life into the flames with a very weakened flamethrower, and in the corner of her eye Mei caught a shadow of a person. Was someone else out and about in the evening in Nuvema? Certainly it wasn't late at night yet.
Well, it wasn't late by most standards. The fact that it had gotten dark meant for Mei it was perfectly late enough. With a slightly shaky voice, she called out to what she hoped was a friendly figure, and not a cruel one. "Is someone there? Am I not allowed to camp here?" Instantly her mind jumped to the possibility that she was breaking a law, and she hopped to her feet, followed by the Espeon that had been asleep only moments ago.
"Thanks Morella, I'm sure it's nothing dangerous." Mei cooed at the purple Pokemon, glad regardless of how "sure" she was of this figure's friendliness.

If there was one thing, he didn't like traveling at night. It was something that deprived the teen of much needed sleep, something that he required as much as his Pokemon if he were to function properly; especially during a battle. But such a thing had been his decision, despite Nurse Joy's presidencies to stay at the center for the night. It was something he obviously quickly regretted. Something so reckless to do; although it was just this one route until he got back home to Nuvema, and the little house he had moved into there many years ago.
The teen's footsteps fell silent as he stopped in place near the border, the Musharna hovered in a sleeping motion shortly behind him as the teen tilted their head. The last thing the brunette had expected was to see a girl camping around. Or, he believed it was a girl - judging by what was illuminated by the lights flickering off the flames that had been started. "It's a little shocking to see a random girl camping here, but I have no problem with it." He spoke in response, stepping forward more so that he would be illuminated by the light. When the adolescent had spoken about being shocked; it wasn't because she was camping, but why she would. Couldn't she book a hotel, or sleep at the Pokemon Center? Of course he refused, but still. "Then again, " he thought, "White had made us set up tents while Buoh and Gigi slept in a hotel." at this then, the teen recalled the instant of his 14 year old self having to set up a camp. A displeased look flashed in his eyes at this before he came back to reality, stopping himself just out of reach of his Musharna. Although he had already beat the elite, the bond he finally gained with Musha made him attracted to his thoughts again; even more so if they drifted back to when he was 14. Probably because such strong ambitious dreams tasted the best to the pokemon.
"I was just heading back home." He spoke suddenly, before letting out a small yawn; covering his mouth in the process. When did he get so tired? He never noticed, he was too focused on heading back to Nuvema. And since he was almost there, his one-track-mind finally clued in that; at this time, he should have probably been asleep.

The voice that responded to her call didn't sound like some random attacker, and Mei and her Espeon took a few steps forward to see the outlines of a male who didn't seem a whole lot older than her. She gave him a nervous smile and a wave, "Oh well I don't live here and it's a bit expensive for just a night and I can't keep an Arcanine out in a hotel room so." She wobbled, somewhat amused but glad that he wasn't a ranger out to tell her off for where she was camping.
Mei didn't really want to explain that as well as the cost of staying in a hotel, she was trying to work on her now rather sticky fear of darkness. Thankfully he wasn't a ranger. Or someone yelling at her. She didn't like being yelled at.
It was probably a good thing that he wasn't, because thinking into the amount of money in her pockets she hadn't managed to make anything in a while, having been out of the battle scene since she'd been grabbed and nabbed by a few members of the knights. "Oh home, do you live here? Nuvema is such a lovely town, I stop by now and then. It feels like home to me too sometimes, when it's the day time." Babbling on in the way she did, Mei looked him over, pigtails bouncing as she moved back towards the light from the fire.
"I'm Mei by the way, you might have heard of me. Pokedex Holder, I helped take out Team Plasma the second time." If she'd been able to see Black better in the light perhaps she wouldn't have been so cocky, but she was trying to combat her nervousness with overcompensation.
From the teen's sudden tired disposition, he decided to sit down, staring at the campfire for a small moment before looking towards Mei once again. "Yeah, I live here." he replied, the Musharna that had been with him floated in a sleep-like position next to the trainer. "It does have that home-y feel to it, doesn't it? I wasn't born in Nuvema town, but two very good friends of mine did and still do. So, I moved here because it was more home to me than well, home." the teen continued on, speaking so suddenly to a stranger like he knew them wasn't something Black didn't do commonly. It was the same with the BW agency members, and also the gym leaders or other trainers. He was, after all, a very open person.
A wide smile grew it's way across Black's mouth as the girl introduced herself. Yes, he had heard of Mei, Kyouei and Hugh. It was hard not to, with the way news spread it would be like wildfire. He knew too well, since it was quite the same way when he had helped take down Team Plasma for the first round. "Mei? Yeah I've heard of you. Black spoke what he had been thinking aloud. "It shocked me when I heard they came back, but Ghetsis seemed to reveal his true colors that time around. It's good you were able to help take them out for the last time." Black nodded, covering his mouth as another yawn escaped his mouth. He wasn't bored, just a tad sleep-deprived. "I'm sure the news of that shocked several people, who had originally released their pokemon due to his speeches." Another look of distaste kindled in his eyes before dying out again, but not before it dampened his smile. It was one of those memories that he didn't like and... Tula had been a victim of that.
As his hand fell back to his side from yawning, he leaned back slightly against the ground, putting some of his weight on the dirt as his hands supported him, getting more comfortable in the process. "My name is Black, by the way. Nice to meet you. I helped take out Team Plasma the first time around." The teen's smile returned as he gave introduction, Musha made a few sounds in time with his trainer.

The boy getting comfortable at the fire was enough to put Mei's mind somewhat at ease and she sat back down to lean into the fur of the Arcanine and stare into the flames. She could somewhat make out his face on the other side - he was cute looking but he definitely wasn't too much older than her. She tried to get a closer look at his face, but didn't want to make herself look weird by squinting and scrunching up her nose too much. Sitting back instead and snuggling into Callypso, she tilted her head to the side and giggled gladly.
It was always nice to be recognised. People occassionally forgot herself and her counterparts, the last of the 'Dex Holders' to do anything major. "Mmhmm, it was shocking. Hugh was really upset and was really our main reason for pursuing them, but when we learned what they were doing we had to act. So we took 'em out." She smiled and looked down at her hands, thinking of some of the trainers whom had let their Pokemon go when they had been inspired by the "values" of what Team Plasma had been saying. She also knew that in some cases, people had been torn. They wanted to do what was best for their Pokemon, but they also couldn't, knowing full well that they would be lonely without them.
"It was hard seeing people react that way, yeah. I know a few people from Aspertia actually went out looking for their Pokemon again. Some of them hadn't ventured far, still wanting to protect their trainers. It's sad that it came to it in the first place." Mei drew circles in the dirt with her finger, thinking about how briefly she had thought that perhaps they had been right - before knowing that her Pokemon loved her as much as she loved them.
"Oh, you're Black! That makes sense!" It was almost instantaneous that as soon as Black had said whom he was, she had looked bewildered and realised that of course that was who he was. Slightly spiky hair (not like Hugh's though!) and she had to grin back at him. "Thanks for doing your best the first time, they're all pretty crazy goons."
Though the talk of evil teams was hardly cause for laughter, Mei had shifted from nervousness into giggling. "Sorry I didn't recognise you sooner, senpai. I guess I wasn't looking hard enough into things. It's nice to know that even our seniors still like to come back to their routes.. Though Cheren moved into ours, so I don't know if he counts under that heading." She leaned back into her Pokemon and briefly made the effort to look Black over once more, trying to get more of a gauge for his looks in the somewhat dimmer lighting.
"What have you been doing since you took them out? I've been here to Nuvema a few times but I've never seen you, so I figured you were off being a star in other regions.. that's what all my friends did." Mei couldn't hide the fact that she had been somewhat sad to be left behind when her two friends had left to train in Sinnoh, but they were back now. That was all that mattered.
The first thing Black picked up on was the mention of Cheren, and the sudden feeling of "geese I'm stupid" washed over him like being hit by a title wave. "Its been that long, huh? I can't believe I forgot that Cheren moved." The teen spoke under his breath, more to himself than anything. Such a thing also brought up the question of if they were okay, he really hadn't talked to them for a while. Were they mad at him for not talking to them? His thoughts had to come to an abrupt stop when the rest of what Mei said sunk into his brain, causing him to jolt back alert to her presence.
"Um, yeah. No issues Mei, I'm not offended." Black replied to her apology, letting out a slight chuckle in the process. He then placed his hand on his chin, staring deep into the fire was he thought back to what he actually had done. A few flickers of light passed through Black's eyes, as he let out a small cough to clear his throat. "I went to other regions, to see if I could challenge other gyms... After the events of my story, it was kind of hard for me to figure out what to do with the two main things that gave me so much determination completed. So, I went out to try and get stronger and form a better bond with my team. I gained a few new goals along the way." From here, he deliberately left out the reason why he returned to unova in the first place. The Knight. He had very conflicted thoughts about them and with the chaos among trainers so strong it went among the legendary pokedex holders too, he felt a need to regroup; at least a for a little bit.
His thoughts collided again, when the last part of her sentence hit and boy did it hit hard, or at least the tone from it did. He did leave behind Cheren and Bianca, did they feel upset by that? Man, he was going to get an earful wasn't he? "I'm sorry." He spoke randomly, shaking his head in the process. "You know, they are still your friends even after what happened. They'd never truely leave you, you realize that right? I'm not one for words of wisdom, but take it from me - I feel bad for leaving Cheren and Bianca behind. Chances are, it's the same with them."

Mei was getting herself cosy. The darkness setting in was enough to make her nervous but having someone as company was always something that made her feel better. She was really a people-driven girl and being in someone's company was enough. She tried to hear what he had mumbled, but she missed it and decided to shrug it off. If he had wanted to say it to her face he wouldn't have said it so quietly.
Wiggling her toes in her shoes, she smiled at his acceptance. "Oh so you did travel, wow. I'm really jealous. I mean, I've travelled a bit now and then, I've gone for a few weekend stays in other regions and I've been to Johto for a couple of weeks but I never really spent a lot of time travelling and exploring somewhere else. I think I'd like to sometime, especially knowing that there are so many opportunities to meet new Pokemon." Mei grinned to herself as she thought about the different Pokemon she might meet somewhere like Hoenn. She wanted to travel to Kanto and Johto first, but Hoenn was so very different from Unova.
When all of these dramas were over, that would be where she went. "I kind of understand that.. you're really brave for making the effort to go somewhere you don't know." Folding her hands into her lap, Mei blinked her bright blue eyes up at her senior and nodded. "But I have so much to do here while all these things keep happening.. our town got hit by one of the worst storms and we've been rebuilding, so travelling will have to wait.. Sight seeing is great but there are lots of important things to do."
The brunette looked away as she thought about all the things they were discussing. Her friends and their travels as well as the fact that they wouldn't really leave.. She blinked herself back up to look at him as he apologised and she forced herself to perk up. Thinking about them being gone only ended up frustrating and making her sad. They were back, that was the main thing. And he was obviously feeling bad for the same reasons that her friends might be. Leaving their closest companions behind. "You're right, I'm sure. I just can't help but miss them. I always feel like I'm a bit.. unfinished when they're not here, you know? Like there's a bit of me that's gone missing."
She chuckled at her own silliness and stretched out her legs in front of her.
"But enough talk about serious things... You should tell me what you've been doing. Did you want to fight the other Pokemon Leagues too, that was a big thing for you, if I remember right. Or just the gyms?"
