[atrb=valign, top] TEN FEMALE TRAINER HETEROSEXUAL NEUTRAL | [atrb=valign, top][atrb=style, border-left:1px solid #515151;] PERSONALITY Fern, for one, is not your average teenage girl. Displaying intelligence from quite an early age, she’s observant, rational and level-headed. She’s a formal little girl, and though adept at concealing her true emotions, one way or another she’ll enter a lapse of concentration and allow her inner feelings to show on the exterior, oftentimes in an emotional outburst. Hiding behind a well-crafted façade, Fern is undeniably calm, and is almost always scheming something inside her head. She often speaks in a dignified manner and uses an extensive vocabulary that often causes people to run in circles. Despite this, she’s incredibly insecure. This relates to her past, as well as her natural cynicism and inability to trust others. She’s slow to believe the words of anybody, especially if she judges you suspicious based on your “unseemly” appearance. She masks her insecurity by appearing snarky, often mixing irony and sarcasm into her speech, and is incredibly skilled at throwing verbal barbs. She’s more than just a bit reclusive, and when presented with certain stimuli, she’s been known to crack and will become unpredictable when tested. She can, and will, display a flurry of emotions in an uncharacteristically unceremonious way. After all, she’s still just a girl. She still displays the interests of a little girl, including her undeniable love for cats. Unsurprisingly, she loves a good book, and if you allow her near cooking utensils, you’ll find that she has a surprising love for baking and cooking, even though she’s notoriously horrendous at it, and it’s generally unwise to consume anything that she tries to create. She has a natural hate for stinky grown men (this opinion being incredibly biased), or really, adults in general. Being cynical, she generally can’t trust anybody that’s more than a few years older than her. As such, she also cannot take somebody who abuses their authority over others. She’s not a girl of justice, she just finds it really annoying to think your all that (get off your high horse). She also does not like to battle, even though eventually we all know she’s going to go off on a Pokémon adventure anyway. HISTORY The first few years of one’s life is generally a blur, and one cannot usually make out concrete memories of your toddler years. Such is the case with Fern and more, as she cannot remember a single thing from the first two years of her life. As she grew up, however, she dismissed this fact by saying that it was normal and they were probably insignificant anyway. Naïve. Fern, as far as she could remember, grew up in a comfortable little cottage nestled in the homely woods of Pinwheel Forest. She grew up with a woman called Rose, who was a gentle caretaker, with flowing blonde hair and a motherly touch. Fern remembers loving her for as long as she can remember, but suspecting that she knew more than she was letting on. Frankly, Fern’s hunch was correct. She doesn’t know this, though. Rose Harley was in an affair with Cashel Aries Rigby, who, as many people know, is the “big boss” of the Knights of Arceus. Rose knew this, yet her love for the man still persisted. They did not marry, however, as Rose was a simple woman – she had no money, nothing. Both their families would not have approved, and as such, the relationship was discreet and kept a secret. Nobody was supposed to know about it. Their love was young. At the time, Cashel was still a young man, and Rose a young woman. Both were naïve in the thoughts that they may live a happy life. Rose became pregnant at such a young age, and when she needed Cashel’s love and support the most, he was whisked away on business duty. It hurt Rose, but it is unknown if Cashel felt the same feelings. The next few months for Rose were horrifying, and a blur, but she eventually came through and gave birth to Fern. However, Cashel still hadn’t returned, and she had no means for support. Eventually, she ran back into her family’s arms, and though the disapproved of the child, they promised to look after her. And then the family was slaughtered. The grandfather of the family had, to say the least, shady connections with Team Rocket, but that was all the police had to offer. The rest of the family was innocent, yet they were still murdered. They still don’t know who the culprits were to this date, though it was theorized to be a person (or a group) who also had ties with Team Rocket and their nefarious ways. Needless to say, Rose and Fern were spared, as they weren’t home at the time. A mysterious supporter had supplied them with enough money to live on, but that was it – no knowledge of that person’s identity or anything. At the time, Fern was still fairly young. The rest of her life was spent in that cottage, whose basement was filled with an abundance of books containing information on Unova’s past, as well as the other regions. Rose past the time by teaching Fern, in hopes of her becoming an educated girl, because that was all she could do for the child. Rose avoided mingling with the outside world, in fear of being attacked by the same people whose intentions were to wipe out the Harley’s completely. However, what she didn’t expect was for Fern to run away from home. OTHER o Despite not being good at battling, she's competent when she's working with Roxy, as Roxy is the only Pokémon she's actually battled with. Not that she's been battling lately. It was something that she liked to do "as a kid". o Is not likely to battle somebody when she knows she's going to lose.
