Kanto. The home region of some of his senior Dex holders.
Hugh's feet touch down on the ground, and he glances back at the Braviary that carried him the great distance from Unova to Kanto. Despite the tired look in his eyes, the pokemon appears ready and willing to go even further. "Take it easy, Zephyr." he tells the pokemon, and it shakes its head in response, ruffling out its feathers and looking around at the trees that surrounded them. "Looks like we've landed in a forest." Hugh states, glancing at the thick grass that seems to sprout from the path out of nowhere.
He turns his wrist upward to look at the C-Gear fastened over the joint like a watch. Still updating Kanto's data. He silently wishes he'd updated it sooner than now, seeing as the map function installed on it would have been useful - he needed to know how far Viridian City was from where he currently was. That's the fastest way to find Green.
"Zephyr, go ahead into the trees. Follow me, and I'll call you if I need you to come out." The Braviary nods, spreading its wings and flying straight into the leafless thicket. Hugh sighs, starting on his trek southward.
An hour passes, and Hugh finally sees a sign to the side of the dirt road welcoming travelers to Viridian City. The spiky-haired teen blinks, regarding the area before him. It's been damaged as terribly as Aspertia, and Hugh feels the shock widen his red eyes before a fresh wave of anger and thick hatred for the group responsible collapses over him, darkening his gaze to something unfriendly. He sinks his chin beneath the funnel-collar of his jacket, letting the fabric draw up to the bridge of his nose to leave only his eyes glaring out over it at the once-standing City.
This is despicable.
He grinds his teeth and shoves his hands in his pockets, fists balled up tight against his legs. Hugh hopes Green's done the same as Cheren - sticking around his city to help the civilians repair what's been lost by the terrible attacks on their homes.
Then again, this is a Dex holder he's never met and knows next to nothing about besides what he's read and heard by ear. He could be entirely different.
Stalking forward, he stays silent as he passes the people working in the street, working his way through Viridian in hopes of finding the Gym when he sees a sign standing before rubble. He walks over, quickly reading the sign. "Viridian City Gym. Leader: Green." He murmurs aloud to himself, looking up at the remains of the building.
"Well, that's something at least." By finding the gym, he'd hoped to find Green. Then again, getting to Viridian City had been an accomplishment in itself. "Now just to find the Gym Leader."
He looked up at the trees where his pokemon sat, having loyally followed him from within the forest and still watching him even now. Hugh raises his hand, summoning the bird pokemon to the rubble. It landed upon the rocks just feet behind the sign, claws digging into the stone as it eyes its trainer carefully. "Looks like we're going to be doing more scouting, Zephyr. We need to find Green to make this trip worthwhile."

The city's damage was expansive to say the least, destroying whole buildings and leaving others uninhabitable, but it was only temporary. Green made certain of that. He hadn't had a direct hand in the reconstruction, but he did all in his power to bring others to Viridian to start work immediately. He made sure that, through the Gym's own profits from challengers he had defeated, they were well supplied and furnished for every project. The Gym building, however, was to remain untouched by Green's request. He would have no one occupying that building until the ones responsible for its destruction were brought to justice.
Or perhaps something else entirely.
Green was standing in the familiar spot where he had met Red and Blue not long ago. As he watched over his city in contemplation, he couldn't help but feel a chilled fury deep within the pit of his stomach. Whoever had caused such chaos was out in the world, scheming, biding their time before their next strike... and Green had no idea who they were or how to find them.
"...We need to find Green and make this trip worthwhile." But Hugh might.
Green had heard of the boy named Hugh. He had heard stories and reports of how he and two others had defeated the threat to Unova, Team Plasma, nearly by themselves. The boy was rumored to have a short fuse and explosive temper, and he was connected to Mei as well... Green could see him scouting about near the location of what used to be the Viridian City Gym. What was he doing in Viridian? It was possible he was tracking down a lead on Mei, who had been captured. Green felt it was an opportune time to find out for himself and possibly gain some much needed information. It didn't take him long to descend to the city streets approach the character.
"Welcome to Viridian City, or what's left of it." Green said from behind the individual, tossing a hand through his hair quickly and getting it out of his eyes. His other hand was on his waste, perched upon Scizor's Pokéball; it wasn't that he didn't trust Hugh, he just wasn't sure how friendly the boy would be towards a surprise visitor. Green waited for Hugh to turn around before continuing to speak. "You've come a long way, Hugh."
That was definitely Green's style, to display how much knowledge he knew without actually saying anything. Certainly the boy had never met him, but the Oak name was a household item. Hugh, on the other hand, had never truly left his nation for that long, and it was safe to assume this would be his first trip to Kanto. Of course, Green had read reports of happenings across every region; if the Rockets ever cropped up again it would be his own personal responsibility to stop them, along with Red and Blue. It was important to keep himself educated of the world around him.
"Is there something I can do for you?" Green said finally, not fully meaning what he said. Green wasn't against helping the needy, not at all, but this person was a Dex Holder, which meant he could look out for himself. Green only offered the petty phrase hoping to gain some knowledge on a subject he knew literally nothing concrete about. If that meant helping a boy from Unova, so be it. Hugh stiffens slightly when he hears footsteps behind him, and his Braviary peers to the side curiously. Will this wind up being similar to the situation Mei had endured? She’d been minding her own business (mostly) before being kidnapped. You’re paranoid. He hears himself think, before he rolls his eyes and waits for whomever’s approached him to speak before moving. His patience is rewarded only seconds later when a male voice casually welcomes him to the city. Hugh blinks once before first turning his head, observing the person behind him from over the brim of his funnel-collar and soon following with the rest of his body.
The spiky-haired teen recognizes the older trainer almost instantly, having at least done some of his research prior to setting out to find someone. Green Oak. His appearance had made Hugh’s life a bit easier – something that was appreciated given his current mood.
Hugh stays silent, only nodding to acknowledge the distance he’d travelled to get to the foreign region, and meanwhile using his time of silence to give Green a quick, if not somewhat critical, sweep-down with his red eyes. He appeared to be relatively laid-back, keeping his calm despite the state of disrepair around him to his City. There’s a hand on one of his pokeballs, and Hugh doesn’t let his gaze travel any further, instead blinking back up to Green’s face as he speaks again. Cautious, though appears willing to talk until given reason not to. Knows who I am...probably what Mei, Kyouhei and I did as well with Team Plasma.
Hugh raises his chin slightly, bringing his jaw out from where it had been sunken into his collar so his words wouldn’t be muffled when he spoke. ”Good to finally meet you, Green.” he states simply, relaxing his stance a bit and unballing the fists in his pockets, instead hooking his thumbs on the rims of his pocket and letting his hands relax some. ”You saved me a bit of trouble by not needing to look for you.” Hugh lets the corner of his mouth curl upward some in a weak smirk, though he’s not in the right mood to maintain it for more than a few seconds, letting it fall to a more serious, flat expression.
”I came here looking for you...if you want to do something about the group thats responsible for terrorizing the world- attacking places like Johto, Viridian, and my home City." Hugh pauses before continuing, "As one of my...senior Dex Holders- --" by more than a year like Cheren, at least, " -- I hoped you would be able to help me in trying to take that group down."
[style=width: 330px; border-top: dotted 2px #356563; border-bottom: dotted 2px #356563; padding: 7px; margin-right: 2px;[/style][style=text-align: justify; font-family: arial; font-size: 10.5px;][style=border-top: solid 3px #356563;][style=float: left; margin-right: 5px; border-left: 3px solid #408079; border-bottom: 3px solid #356563; border-right: 3px solid #356563;][/style][style=border-bottom: solid 2px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 15px; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; font-weight: bold;]moved by vengeance[/style] Green couldn't help but be somewhat impressed by this Hugh character. He was confident, calm, courteous. Why, this was lining up to be one of the best first impressions made upon Green.
Of course, he didn't have such a great frame of references to compare him to.
Now that he had been in the boy's presence for a moment, Green loosened from his tightness, though not quite releasing his hand from the Pokéball. Even if this person was no threat to him, it was never known if someone was lurking in the shadows. This was something he had learned long ago, from a woman named Agatha. He could remember the touched dame vividly, but chose not to. It was so long ago, and he was so much weaker then than he was now. Even if Hugh had posed a danger to him, Green was confident in his ability to crush the poor soul like a grape between his fingers. Such was the way of a Gym leader and Dex Holder.
Regardless, the boy seemed to mean no harm. Green to the liberty to examine him a little more closely, eyeing his physical qualities. He was of medium build, though his jacket made him appear a bit underweight it was clear to Green that he was quite trained physically. Not nearly as much as himself, of course, but the boy hadn't been trained for years of his prepubescent life, either. His hair was unkempt, which Green was used to after fighting alongside Red for such a time. The way he held himself suggested an anger hidden away, deep inside his very being... perhaps the motivation and reasoning for traveling such a long distance to see Green? His short expressions revealed that he was impatient, and definitely only here for business. That was good, Green wasn't here for pleasure either.
"...if you want to do something about the group that's responsible for terrorizing the world- attacking places like Johto, Viridian, and my home City."
[/i] He needn't say more, but he continued. Green was already latched onto what he said, though building more apprehension than previously. This boy claimed to ask for help, but for all that Green knew he could be working as a double agent. This group was obviously intelligent and cunning, or they wouldn't have been able to capture Yellow or Mei. Who was to say this person wasn't under their dastardly influence? Certainly he had traveled with Mei, but his kind of temper almost always attracted the wrong company. Green kept his distance and increased his mental defenses. He was to trust no one.
"I'm interested. What did you want from me?" Green said calmly, almost sounding contrarily uninterested. His arms crossed for a second, taking his hand off of his hip yes, but both hands in reach of a Pokéball now. Should he need to strike, he could do so just as quickly and with twice the force as before. He meant absolutely no disrespect, but was going to give the boy no room to wiggle under his feet. Nor would he surrender any precious information of his own, this calculated approach involving Hugh to lay out exactly his intentions before Green surrendered anything.
This stranger would prove himself before Green would lend his aid to any force. [/style] [style=border-top: solid 3px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 11px; text-transform: lowercase]words, tags, ooc: 550 / Hugh / Green is on the lookout! credits: ambassador tanz of pre & btn & ote[/style][/style][/td] [td][atrb=style,border-left: 12px #356563 double;][/td] [atrb=width,4px][/td][/tr][/table][/center]
Hugh almost exhales with the sense of satisfaction that begins to crawl under his skin with Green's positive reaction. Despite what appears to be positive feedback so far, Hugh makes note of the change in the other Dex Holder's stance. More guarded. He's certainly wary, though he doesn't hold it against his senior in the slightest. They're both strangers to each other, after all, and with the threat of the people who hurt Mei sitting in the shadows, practically, there was no such thing as being too cautious.
This entire situation isn't something I like. Hugh realizes when he blinks once at Green during the pause before he begins to speak. Hugh's never been much of one to extend a hand and say 'Here trust me', or trust somebody shortly after meeting them. No. Those are two things he feels sure he'll never be able to achieve. But because you came all the way to Kanto from Unova you're going to have to be the one to give a little first before getting anything. He tells himself, wanting to sneer unhappily at the fact even more now than when he'd first told himself that during the flight across the sea.
He grudgingly begins slowly, "Like I said, I came here seeking your help. I know you could get in touch with more of my senior Dex Holders more easily than I could...I've only met the others in Unova. " He feels that's an issue on his end that he would need to correct relatively soon - in fact, one he probably should have taken care of earlier versus now when there was trouble that needed to be taken care of. He admits his mistake, glancing to the side and murmuring in a harsh tone, "And that's my own damn fault."
He blinks once and mentally shakes himself to get back on topic. "I need to get in touch with them as well to see if they'll help me fight against the people responsible for everything that's happened. I'm not just going to sit back and let this power-obsessed organization do as it pleases any longer. It took me too long to come to that conclusion as well."
His red gaze hardens, a burning desire for revenge flaring like a fire in his expression. "I've recently also managed to learn a bit more about them than I knew previously...now it's solid information. Not much, but it's something." He glances around. There's more people potentially within earshot than he's comfortable with, "Is there somewhere more private we can go?"
[style=width: 330px; border-top: dotted 2px #356563; border-bottom: dotted 2px #356563; padding: 7px; margin-right: 2px;[/style][style=text-align: justify; font-family: arial; font-size: 10.5px;][style=border-top: solid 3px #356563;][style=float: left; margin-right: 5px; border-left: 3px solid #408079; border-bottom: 3px solid #356563; border-right: 3px solid #356563;][/style][style=border-bottom: solid 2px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 15px; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; font-weight: bold;]moved by vengeance[/style] Throughout the boy’s spiel, Green couldn’t help but develop the slightest twinge of a smirk. He was quite vicious, begrudging, and he certainly was zealous about taking down this group. Green decided he may have been too hasty in judging this one hostile. Perhaps he could be useful to him, and bring a good alliance.
Getting in touch with the other Dex Holders was a great idea, but Green had already started that mission a while ago. He had contacted Blue and Red to begin with, and more recently Gold and Crystal, but he wasn’t sure who else knew. It was somewhat strange how the Dex Holders were all thinking on the same track, but Green didn’t put too much suspicion into that thought. They were all supposed to be Guardians of their regions, anyway; it wasn’t surprising they were looking for each other to help protect the world.
Hugh mentioned that they were power-obsessed. This was a good clue that Hugh’s intentions were solid, and that Green’s suspicions of the group were also correct. He had guesses that the Knights of Arceus would be trying to establish some sort of world order or control, but he couldn’t confirm it. Even with this information it wasn’t entirely confirmed, but he at least had a clue. Maybe now he could begin his search…
But first, the boy was right; they needed to find somewhere more private to share this information. Green looked at the boy and smiled shortly, nodding. ”Well I know a place, that is if you don’t mind a bit of a walk,” he said, referring to his home of Pallet Town. Green had a home there with his sister, and it was easily a place of refuge that no one would overhear them. Green would make sure of that.
Impatient as ever, Green began walking before giving him a chance to speak. If he was smart, he would follow Green’s lead, and that was that. [/style] [style=border-top: solid 3px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 11px; text-transform: lowercase]words, tags, ooc: 327 / Hugh / Little shorter, sorry credits: ambassador tanz of pre & btn & ote[/style][/style]
Hugh remains tense as he awaits Green’s answer. Surely there had to be somewhere – be it a building getting reconstructed currently or one that had managed to survive the terror attack on the city. But then again... Buildings in this area likely wouldn’t be ideal – people wouldn’t just clear out for two others if they were working on repairing or fortifying them. Even so much as two people could potentially be too many. The only people Hugh’s willing to take a chance with in terms of trusting with information are other Dex Holders...and even then that’s a stretch for his personality.
A breath of relief escapes him when the smallest flash of a smile pulled at Green’s mouth before vanishing. Hugh’s narrowed eyes grow somewhat less intense, and he allows his jaw to sink back beneath the funnel-collar of his jacket, nodding some. ”I don’t.” He states simply, jogging to catch up with Green before slowing to a walk beside him, keeping his eyes on the ground next to his senior.
He hears wingbeats and knows Zephyr follows them now, before seeing the shadow cast by the Braviary streak over he and Green as the pokemon goes to the trees, to follow them from a greater distance. Hugh looks up briefly to follow the bird pokemon with his eyes, contemplating recalling it to rest or not. It was a long flight over. He tells himself. Let him have his fun.
He glances at Green once, only letting his gaze fall back to the ground after he blinks, deciding nothing he thought of to say was significant enough to actually be said.
[style=width: 330px; border-top: dotted 2px #356563; border-bottom: dotted 2px #356563; padding: 7px; margin-right: 2px;[/style][style=text-align: justify; font-family: arial; font-size: 10.5px;][style=border-top: solid 3px #356563;][style=float: left; margin-right: 5px; border-left: 3px solid #408079; border-bottom: 3px solid #356563; border-right: 3px solid #356563;][/style][style=border-bottom: solid 2px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 15px; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; font-weight: bold;]moved by vengeance[/style] It didn't take long for Hugh to catch up to Green, which Green understood as Hugh meaning business. That was good, because Green didn't have time to fool around either. They were both under serious threat, and if Hugh actually did have information, it meant that he would be a target. That was both a good and bad circumstance. It was ideal because if approached by a hostile, Green could dispatch of them and find out what it was they knew and were after; it was bad... for obvious reasons.
However, in the current time the two of them had a little bit of walking to do. Green glanced over at the boy, noticing that he wasn't very comfortable in his position. This made sense; Green wasn't exactly being a courteous host. He decided that the most appropriate tactical action was to... converse.
"So, Hugh," he started, not moving his head but adjusting his vision to view the boy, "You're from Unova correct? Tell me a little about it. I've only visited on occaision... Have you been to the amusement park in Castelia?" This was obviously a probe, a very simple nonrelevence that would weed out whether or not Hugh was actually from Unova or not. Anyone who had been there would know that the amusement park was not in Castelia, but in Nimbasa.
Green let a soft moment go by before continuing the conversation, though it seemed one way from his end. "I'm guessing if you're here it means you've found Mei." Green said this in a quieter voice, afraid that someone may find out that didn't know. Of course, they were close enough to Pallet Town that they would be safe, but just for extra security he was quiet. His next words, however, did not come out so concealed: "Tell me about her. You two have a little thing going on, right?" Green said this with a smirk, trying to get a rise out of the boy. It was obvious there was some sort of connection, and he had heard the rumors. Though he had never met the boy himself, Red had met some of the Unova region Dex Holders, and he certainly couldn't keep Red from shutting up about them.
With one last thought, Green got a little more serious. He would have stopped in his tracks, but it was important that they continued to travel to Pallet. "How is she now?" He said, referring to Mei. If his suspicions were correct, and they almost always were, he would know how to find Yellow as well.
For Red's sake, Green needed to be right this time. Hugh cracks his knuckles against his legs while they walk, mulling over the current situation while the silence grows between them. So long as they get to their destination without trouble, that would be worth the trip. I hope I wasn’t followed... Hugh thinks, clenching his fists. He quickly comes to the conclusion that if anybody from that group has the gall to follow him all the way to Kanto to prevent his tongue from loosening, he’ll handle them swiftly with the grudge he bears toward them with the anger that’s been boiling his blood since he rescued Mei. If the other Dex Holders help out...maybe not even all of them...we’ll be able to crush them. There’s nothing at this point in time that satisfies him more than the thought of wiping the floor with the whole organization, and further beat the man that harmed Mei into tenfold the pain she had been caused.
Hugh slips far enough into mulling this matter over that he almost doesn’t hear Green speak again until the after Green says his name. he raises his head slightly, so that his funnel-collar covers only his mouth, rather than up to the bridge of his nose as it had moments ago. He’s quick to respond to the first question, unable to suppress his snort of incredulity at Green’s words. ”The amusement park in Castelia?” His voice is harsher than it normally would be in a typical reaction to the question, ”I find it hard to believe you’ve been there even once.” He shakes his head, giving the correct answer swiftly, ”The amusement park is in Nimbasa.”
He doesn’t add to that statement, instead letting the silence between them come again like an iron gate slamming to the ground. It lasts only for a few seconds, though, before Green speaks again – this time of Mei.
Hugh feels himself relax slightly with the knowledge that she’s safe, rather than captured as Green had last heard, apparently. That rose a question within him, though, but he would wait for the right moment to ask. However, the next words out of Green’s mouth automatically ignited a defensive flare in Hugh’s attitude, causing the younger Dex Holder to jerk his head up and turn his red gaze on Green. ”How the hell do you even know about that?” he asks, not bothering to use his time thinking of the possible answers, ”And we don’t have a ‘little thing’ going on!” His words are barbed like his tongue can be, though he doesn’t manage to prevent a momentary rise of color to his cheekbones before it fades again, ”I don’t know where you got that but clearly your intel is a bit off!” He looks back to the side pointedly, ”She’s a girl and she’s my friend, not a girlfriend!”
Best friend. He hears himself think. Not like that would help his argument, though.
If hair could fluff up when someone was agitated, Hugh’s certainly would.
His hands suddenly leave his pockets and his arms cross against his chest, ”There’s nothing going on!” It’s a bit of a redundant statement, but all the better to grind that point in.
[style=width: 330px; border-top: dotted 2px #356563; border-bottom: dotted 2px #356563; padding: 7px; margin-right: 2px;[/style][style=text-align: justify; font-family: arial; font-size: 10.5px;][style=border-top: solid 3px #356563;][style=float: left; margin-right: 5px; border-left: 3px solid #408079; border-bottom: 3px solid #356563; border-right: 3px solid #356563;][/style][style=border-bottom: solid 2px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 15px; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; font-weight: bold;]moved by vengeance[/style] It was different to be having a conversation like this, but Green did think this was probably the most efficient way to coax answers out of him… and that first response was certainly enough proof for Green. Why, the kid nearly attacked him verbally with that statement. Sure, it was obviously a falsehood, but the two cities weren’t that far off, and they were both relatively close in size. Green assumed Hugh was simply on edge; meeting a Dex Holder so many years his senior was probably an intimidating encounter. Still, in another circumstance, Green would have wiped the floor with the boy. Punk.
The silence between the two of them was certainly deafening, at least for a moment. A very, very brief moment.
The counter-reaction to his question was so explosive it nearly blew the hair on Green’s head backward. Had there been any actual damage, he would have assumed that Hugh had been carrying an Electrode. He had almost attempted to defend himself by explaining how he knew Mei was captured, but the boy didn’t give him any time to speak. Instead, he was revisited by the harsh tongue from before, though twice if not three times as vicious. Green stood there, physically stopped, taking the verbal abuse from what he considered a child. His face went blank, Green literally soaking in all he had to say with wide eyes attentive. The boy was certainly enraged, the color of his cheeks were clear indications of that. He continued to tell Green off as if he had personally attacked the boy. Green would have stopped him from doing so, but it was such a spectacle he couldn’t help but observe.
When the dust had settled, all that remained was an angry little boy shouting, ”There’s nothing going on!”
[/i]
”Ha…” Green allowed a little laugh to escape his lips, unable to keep himself from it, then, they started to trickle from his stomach one after another, until he was literally bent over in laughter. ”Hahahaha!” With arm over his stomach and another bracing himself on a knee, Green was literally laughing uncontrollably. It was all so ridiculous, this kid obviously had it bad for Mei and was in such denial. After almost a straight minute of laughing, Green propped himself back up, and grinned at the boy, not saying another word. He threw a hand up, a non-verbal “whatever you say,” and continued to walk down the path towards Pallet.
Green fully intended to continue their talk, but not until they reached the town. He was hoping to relieve the tension between the two, but Hugh obviously wasn’t going to trust him with any more casual talk. Still, it’s pretty plain to see that kid cares for her… Green couldn’t help but let his mind wander as well, feelings of sympathy toward the boy flooding him. It was all too familiar…
---Cut to Pallet, Green’s Home---
It had been a while since he had been home, though even now he was just visiting. As he opened the door, inviting Hugh in at the same time, he noticed it was empty. He hadn’t see his sister in quite a while… But he was sure she was safe. He had always ensured that, and nothing had changed now. She was probably at Oak’s lab, or possibly still working for Bill. It was of no consequence; mentally Green made a note to check on her.
”Well…” Green started, looking around the room. ”We’re here, it’s safe to talk here.” That much was utmost truth. Green had personally ensured that the house was soundproofed, and there was an interference signal that would scramble any bugs planted. He had connections with the greatest minds in the world; there was no chance that he wouldn’t utilize that sort of technological genius in his own home. Green idly pulled out a chair, still somewhat paranoid. While it was soundproof and pretty much safe to converse under his roof, the chance for physical intrusion was much more likely.
Still, he didn’t sense anything amiss, so Green took a seat and gestured for Hugh to do the same. He lifted his right leg to let it rest crossed over his left knee, opening to a comfortable- yet defensive- stance. ”Well, have at it.” [/style] [style=border-top: solid 3px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 11px; text-transform: lowercase]words, tags, ooc: 715 / Hugh / Very amusing XD credits: ambassador tanz of pre & btn & ote[/style][/style][/td]
Hugh’s left practically steaming when his long-winded, quick-lipped tirade comes to its abrupt end, the sudden incline in his blood pressure and heart rate leaving him taking more audible breaths, though clearly deep ones in an attempt to calm himself from the outburst. To the spiky-haired Dex Holder, though, something like ‘calm’ doesn’t really exist for him at the current time. He’s always been the prickly sort, and since Mei’s incident he’s well aware that he’s been easier to anger than normal.
When he hears the first indications of a laugh, he turns sharply, keeping his arms crossed and staring down the bridge of his nose, over the top of his raised collar at Green, his expression stern but lightened from the sudden confusion that began to sink in. The older Dex Holder may as well have rolled on the ground with laughter. Hugh feels his body trembling slightly as he gets his blood pressure back into a ‘safe’ zone, watching Green laugh while he remains standing straight with his arms crossed, still relatively baffled by the entire situation. The hard expression on Hugh’s face cracks like ice that got soaked with hot water when Green grinned before turning away with a hand thrown up.
The hell was that all about?! Hugh finds himself wanting to shout, half-jogging a step to catch back up with the other, who had started walking as suddenly as he’d begun laughing. Seriously, ask something like that then not respond? What is with him?! He silently rages questions off in his mind, trying to find substitute answers while they continue to walk in silence. Hugh entertains the possibility that his response earlier caused Green to decide it best to stay clammed up for the walk.
—Arrive at Green’s house, Pallet Town --
Hugh observes the tiny town as Green leads him through it, taking careful note of the locations of particular buildings and other landmarks in the event that he needs to pay a visit to this particular part of Kanto again. As the approach the lone building Hugh assumes to be Green’s house, he glances back at the woods he last saw his pokemon fly into before placing two fingers just inside his mouth, whistling to call the pokemon forward. It flies out, and he tosses a ball at it, returning the Braviary to its shrunken size within the sphere and glancing at his pokemon before slipping the ball into the pouch belted around his hips before stepping into the house after being invited in.
The Unovan Dex Holder swallows before closing the door behind him, glancing back at it as though he’s contemplating locking it or not before following Green to the sitting area, though lagging behind some and moving more slowly and looking around the room, only turning his attention back to Green when he speaks, and placing a hand on the back of the chair offered to him. He stares at his senior for a moment before blinking and nodding, unzipping the red jacket halfway and sitting down, leaning forward to place his elbows on his knees as he begins his explanation.
”We have Mei to thank for this information.” He subconsciously claps his hands together, the leather of his gloves making a sound comparable to a smack in the quiet-ish room when he interlocks his knuckles. The thought of being grateful for anything related to her capture pisses him off. ”She was able to obtain it while she was...” His jaw clenches before he can speak, ”...kidnapped.” His grip on his own hands tightens, and the knuckle he broke rescuing Mei begins to smart as his finger tries to bend beyond the binds of the tape holding the splint. Medication must be wearing off. Otherwise, it would have bothered him the many times he clenched his fists in his pockets.
”First off, they’re obsessed with power like I told you. They seem to have an unhealthy interest in legendary pokemon and taking control of the world. They apparently have access to healthy sums of money to fund their operations. I imagine it’s for more than just helping them get from place to place and set up holding areas for their...a good word here would be victims. They’re probably working in other cities over the world and looking like normal people and having things built for them for Arceus-knows-what with their operations.”
Hugh pauses, deciding to tack a little more onto his first wave of information.
”Mei says they mentioned Arceus a number of times, as though that’s part of the bigger picture of their goals.” His lip curls, ”Besides wreaking havoc on cities and towns for apparently no reason. If they get control of Arceus...I’m pretty sure you can guess what would happen. The world would probably be bent over their knee in no time.” Hugh pauses, looking down at the ground before continuing, ”Also, I know how they’ve been causing these natural disasters everywhere. They have control of three Legendary pokemon from Unova – Thundurus, Tornadus, and Landorus.”
He glances at Green, assuming he hasn’t brushed up on his knowledge of Unovan Legendary pokemon and lore associated with them. However, he waits for some form of response before launching into an explanation and further elaboration, as well as the second key part of Mei’s information.
notes it would really suck if there were like two NPC Knights waiting for them outside when they finished like "lol we're tailing joo |D" // second thread y/y? jk. mebbe[/classy]

His stance was defensive, elbows on his knees leaving him closed off to Green interjecting. Of course, Green wouldn’t dare do that while he was inputting such important information. He clasped his hands together and it made a slapping noise that echoed through the empty house. That didn’t bother Green, but the conversation was definitely dreary enough to stir him up. He hadn’t been affected, and in another life Green wouldn’t have cared at all, but that was not the Green Oak that was here today. What if it had been Daisy that was taken? Or Blue?
Crystal?
Green could definitely relate to the boy and his anger; Green had felt the same feeling when Team Rocket captured his grandfather. It wasn’t wise to show such a vibrant display of rage, but better to keep it controlled within oneself. Green was worried the poor boy was going to break his own hands with as much force as he was putting on his fingers. Then Green was suddenly barraged with a long string of knowledge.
As he was fed information, Green was plotting out a puzzle in his mind, fitting piece by piece and arranging data as if he himself were a computer. He put a hand on his chin while he listened, contemplating over every detail that Hugh spilled from his mouth. Power hungry of course, what Team that has been around hasn’t been longing for power? Plasma, I guess, but even then they wanted control. As far as Legendary Pokémon go, nearly every group has sought to control the beasts, Green began, still stroking his chin but now looking off center of Hugh. His mind continued to race for ideas. They could be getting their wealth from anywhere… black market, a large company like Silph, who knows. Giovanni had connections as well. They’re spread out among all of the nations… They could be more dangerous than I had first assumed. He thought, taking a mental break to sit back fully in his chair and listen to the rest of Hugh’s testimony.
And of course, the boy was right. If they could find- and awaken- Arceus to control, there would be no victory for the good guys. Not this time. It was the next statement that shocked Green the hardest, because it meant his suspicions were correct. ”I knew it…” he said, almost in a whisper. Green knew enough of the Legendary Trio from Hugh’s home region to suspect they were behind the damage caused all over the world… he had just hoped that he was wrong. But how these forces could have been captured, Green had no idea.
”That is certainly more information than I had to go off of. Most of it was rumor, but now that it is confirmed…” Green trailed off, allowing Hugh to fill in the gaps. He sat there for a minute, still pondering the Team’s motives. That was the real issue here: why were they doing this? If they wanted control, why not dominate the masses with the power of the Pokémon themselves? Why cause natural disasters and kill innocents… It wasn’t making sense. There wasn’t enough data. ”Is that all?” Green asked quietly with a polite tone. He certainly hoped it wasn’t, because he longed to figure out this conundrum. He would need more information, more time…
And quite possibly a bit of luck. [/style] [style=border-top: solid 3px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 11px; text-transform: lowercase]words, tags, ooc: 573 / Hugh / We could do that if you want haha, I don’t mind! credits: ambassador tanz of pre & btn & ote[/style][/style]
Now that he’s spoken, Hugh finds himself going over the information more slowly than when Mei first informed him of everything he now new. Previously, he hadn’t been in the mindset or had the patience to think more carefully over everything and attempt to draw his own conclusions. It’s likely they’ve gotten funds from some of the major businesses scattered throughout the world. Then again, with a goal for power like they have they might try to suck the marrow out of the veins running through the underground of each region. He doesn’t put the likelyhood of businesses subtly supporting them out of his mind, making a mental note to delve a bit into the companies centralized in other regions and see what he can dig up about their business history.
His arms raise and place his hands in front of his face, fingers interlocked before his mouth as he stares over them. Any business with questionable actions in the past – that have been publicized- are well worth looking into. It would be a start. Hugh bites down on the inside of his lip when he hears Green’s quiet response. It wasn’t dissimilar to the response he’d given Mei when she told him this the first time. He murmurs his next words, more voicing his thoughts out loud than explicitly stating something to Green. ”Thundurus and Tornadus were ruining the Unova region generations ago and Landorus was the one that stopped them and became the leader of the trio. The fact that Landorus, too, is being used to bring disaster on the world alongside them can’t indicate anything good for the pokemon himself...”
Hugh bites down on one of his fingers, not wanting to imagine the fact that Landorus was somehow manipulated to behave as erratically as Thundurus and Tornadus had been so many years ago or otherwise convinced to act violently and bring about natural disasters.
”The only other information I can offer you at this point in time is that they’re targeting female Dex Holders.” Hugh feels his jaw clench and his grip on his fingers tightens. ”I don’t know why they’re targeting them, but once they apprehend her, they take her own pokemon to attack her with.” He knows one occurance of this shouldn’t normally be enough to create a generalization, but he’s not going to leave this technicality to prevent him from saying what he knows. ”In captivity they use methods of physical abuse and some level of psycho-emotional torment to try to get information out of whomever they get in their grip...” His lip curls, and he doesn’t delve into detail beyond that...he feels what was used against Mei is something more personal than what he’d state in conversation.
”They have holding areas...I guess you could call them hideouts...in every region. When I saved Mei, I stormed the one where she was held. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more than one in each region as well, and the one in Unova has already been changed since that morning.”
The teenager lets out a rough sigh, closer to a snort, of disapproval at his own lack of information in the greater scheme of things. ”That’s all I have, unfortunately. But it’s something to start with.”
[style=width: 330px; border-top: dotted 2px #356563; border-bottom: dotted 2px #356563; padding: 7px; margin-right: 2px;[/style][style=text-align: justify; font-family: arial; font-size: 10.5px;][style=border-top: solid 3px #356563;][style=float: left; margin-right: 5px; border-left: 3px solid #408079; border-bottom: 3px solid #356563; border-right: 3px solid #356563;][/style][style=border-bottom: solid 2px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 15px; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase; font-weight: bold;]moved by vengeance[/style] Once more Green ushered himself into a proper listening stance, soaking in every little bit of information that Hugh had to offer as if it were nourishment itself. Unlike nourishment and food, Green wasn't enjoying the taste of it one bit. Something powerful enough to capture or control Landorus... could they already control Arceus? Green could theorize all day, but it wasn't doing him anything of worth; an Oak was always a man of action.
Green couldn't help but grind his teeth in anger- something he loathed when other did- when he was told the secrets of the Knights detainment. The sheer audacity this group had to treat living, breathing humans that way, and to use their Pokémon against them! Green was literally sickened. For once in his life he could sincerely empathize with the emotions Hugh was going through; Green was building a similar concoction of rage within his stomach as well. Though Hugh, from what Green could tell, was more upset at himself than the group-- possibly for not learning enough about them to report. It mattered not; Green had learned enough from Hugh to get started, and he was better off than before they had contacted one another. That was good enough.
A moment passed between them when Green let Hugh's words echo in his mind. What could he take from these patterns to apply them to Yellow? That was his first priority of course: finding and rescuing Yellow. Certainly Hugh was strong and capable, saving Mei on his own had proven that, but Green still didn't trust him nearly as much as the Pokédex Holders that originated in Kanto. They were older, wiser, and more experienced, and those were things that Hugh's raw power couldn't match up to.
It was time to break the silence between the two of them. Green stood and addressed his new found ally with speech. "Thank you for sharing this with me. I will have Pidgeot distribute this knowledge amongst my companions in this region. For now... I think it is better to cease our talking and continue our searching, whether it be together or alone." He paused to let that last bit ring in. Do not think that I will be hesitant to go without you... An emerald gaze locked onto Hugh's vibrant red eyes fiercely to emphasize his point. Green looked away from Hugh after a moment, continuing. "I must find Yellow. I would... appreciate your help." Green did waver before saying that, because it was left unsure if Hugh would cause him trouble in the long run or perhaps an enormous benefit to him.
"Regardless, we should get going." Green mentioned, motioning for the door. He wasn't one to sit still, and wasn't about to develop that habit now. [/style] [style=border-top: solid 3px #356563; font-family: century gothic; font-size: 11px; text-transform: lowercase]words, tags, ooc: 461 / Hugh / A little shorter. Hugh swallows and promptly begins drumming his fingers quietly against the backs of the hand opposite to which they belong, staring down his nose at the movement as though overly concerned about keeping himself occupied. He looks back up immediately when he hears Green speak, nodding some as if to say, ‘No problem’ to the thanks. Not counting the distance of the travel, it really hadn’t been. Hugh places his hands upon the arms of his chair when Green suggests ending the conversation and turning their words into actions. Hugh blinks in agreement and stands, looking up in time to lock eyes with Green.
Looks like you’d go on and move even if I were one to hesitate. Hugh feels his lip twitch slightly in vague amusement, and he stares back until Green breaks their eye contact. The teen inhaled a bit sharply at the mention of Yellow, and the way which Green spoke. Not someone else… Though not as terrible a reaction he had when he first realized Mei had been kidnapped, Hugh felt a fresh wave of anger wash over him – partially at the organization themselves, another part of him for one of his senior Dex Holders, and the last part on behalf of everyone that cared about Yellow.
Those bastards…
”Right.” Hugh murmurs the response, and narrows his eyes when he looks down. He silently promises himself to help however possible until he’s needed back home. You promised Mei you wouldn’t go anywhere without her… he hears himself think, before immediately responding with, …she’s still recovering, though, that promise doesn’t apply just yet.
It was time to move, and there’s nothing Hugh hates more than sitting still when he could be doing something. Luckily for him, Green seems to have a similar mindset – time, particularly now, will not be wasted.
