| PERSONALITY I may be on the side of the angels...Despite how he acts towards people, Hugh is actually a good person. He's loyal to a fault once he determines someone is deserving of his hard-to-obtain trust. On top of that, he is incredibly brave and will do anything to accomplish his goals, help a pokemon, or help his friends and family. Often times he can plow his way through anything he sees as a hurdle to overcome because of his respectable power as a pokemon trainer and his own physical (and mental) strength and endurance. He tackles every situation head-on, and although he may appear to charge off following his gut instinct, he is actually very intelligent - he just lacks the capacity to display it often. Last but not least, he is compassionate. Though Hugh generally acts cold and uncaring towards most people, he a truly sympathetic person. When trying to help someone in a plight, he may come across as brash or ill-tempered, but he means well - he just doesn't know how to speak kindly and assertively. The only living things that have gotten a close look into his compassionate side are his pokemon, family, and two best friends. ...but don't ever mistake me for being one.One of the first things people notice about Hugh is that he seems like he's never happy. He acts cold towards most people (save for a special three) and tries to remain distant from attachments to others. There are a lucky few that get past his quiet, hard barrier, but he has trust issues. There are very few people he trusts. Though he has changed over the years, some parts of his personality have remained the same, particularly his volatile temper. He has had severe anger-management issues for most of his life - ever since Team Plasma took his sister's Purrloin and killed his grandfather - and although he has gotten better at it, he will still lash out at people. However, he generally unleashes his rage on those who deserve it more often than innocent bystanders. If you get him mad enough, his anger will manifest physically and he will prove to be violent in these (thankfully rare) situations. He would never lay a finger on a pokemon, though. There's a lot of things in this world I like...If it's not obvious, Hugh likes training pokemon, and battling all in order to discover the true power of pokemon. It goes without saying that he likes pokemon as well, almost more than people. That being said, he likes his friends and family and holds them very close to his heart, even if he doesn't act the nicest towards them. He is a fan of sour food and tea as well, he especially enjoys the latter after physical activity ...but I hate just as many.If there is one faction he will never forgive, it's Team Plasma. His deep-seeded hatred of them has grown into a dislike for any Team that tries to do as they please with pokemon and/or people. He doesn't like losing battles because he doesn't know how he'll get stronger if he loses. He hates it when he shows signs of weakness as well. The event years ago when Kyouhei and Mei witnessed his barriers collapse around him when he was reunited with his sister's Purrloin (then a Liepard) and it didn't even recognize him. That was the closest he came in his life to breaking down entirely and he hates the fact that the two people he considers friends saw his moment of weakness. Although it's not something that comes up too often, he doesn't like it when people call him hot-tempered or tell him his hair looks like a Qwilfish. He can see it's insanely spiky each time he looks in the mirror, thank you. There are things I want to do by the time I die...Hugh's primary goal in life is to destroy any evil Teams once and for all however he possibly can, even if it one day costs him his life. He knows, though, he'll have to shut them down systematically to be successful so it will take a while. He also wants to become the strongest trainer in Unova. Lastly, and perhaps the most difficult of his goals, is that he wants to fall in love. Considering how terrible he is at registering feelings coming from/directed at him, and then further doing something about it, he doubts this will ever happen. ...and there are things I could never force myself to do.Though he may not look like it, Hugh is terrified of snake-like pokemon. He'll try to keep his cool around them, but will likely fail if they get too close. The only reason he's fine with his Eelektross is because he obtained it when it was a Tynamo. Also, believe it or not, he's afraid of loud and sudden noises. He won't drop and curl up in a ball if he hears one, he'll just jump a foot in the air. (Impact of pokemon techniques on the environment do not apply). Lastly, he is mildly afraid of Stoutland - he got chased by one as a child, but has battled so many the fear has become muted. Every good guy has those dark secrets. When he vanished shortly after helping Mei and Kyouhei with Team Plasma he went to the Sinnoh Region to train for a few years. Because of constantly climbing mountains to make he and his pokemon stronger, he has prematurely grown into the lean, muscled form of a young man. Only one month ago, his fear of snake-like pokemon began when an Arbok sprayed his chest with an Acid. Also, it's on his birth certificate, "Hyu Castiel Treasach", but he felt spelling it "Hugh" was more normal, though he's used to variants such as Hue. He has also obtained the Legendary pokemon, Cobalion, and it stays on his person at all times. Lastly, he has developed a serious, though well-capped (mostly) romantic attraction to his friend, Mei.
| HISTORY Hugh was born in Asperita City seventeen years ago, and lived with his mother, father, grandfather, and later his younger sister. Growing up in a place like Asperita, he learned from an early age how to handle himself on the street. Though it was quieter than just about any other city he would come across, he still understood early that you had to keep up with the city or you'd get left behind. Hugh was a doting brother to his younger sister, and he went everywhere with her and even played with her - even if it meant playing with dolls. He was raised in a pokemon-friendly family, his father was an incredible trainer before he retired and his mother was a breeder. His grandfather was an artist that greatly enjoyed painting pictures of trainers and their pokemon.
At the age of five when he was allowed to down the street without an adult, Hugh met Kyouhei and the new girl on their block, Mei. The three became fast friends and grew up alongside each other. Their life was peaceful. Soon after meeting Kyouhei and Mei, Hugh's grandfather gave him three pokemon as a gift - one of which, the Purrloin, he gave to his beloved sister. Though the pokemon frustrated him because it wouldn't listen to him, he wrapped the pokemon itself and presented it to her as a gift. They were an inseparable pair from that moment on.
That day, Hugh woke up to storm clouds. He spent most of the day indoors with his sister and his grandfather who was babysitting them, as his parents were having a day out. He and his sister went into their backyard and mock-fought to train his Trapinch and her Purrloin. Team Plasma attacked and ruined that day. Desperate to protect his sister and her pokemon, he tried to fend Team Plasma Grunts off. They disposed of him easily and pinned him to the ground to make him watch as they shoved his sister down, unconscious, and took the Purrloin she'd been clinging desperately to.
Their grandfather came out at the last moment and attempted to fight the Plasma Grunts off as well, but was soon overwhelmed physically. They knocked him down as well but he didn't get back up.
The Grunts escaped and Hugh passed out. He woke up to his parents and the terrible news - nothing had been a dream, but his sister was okay, and his Grandfather had been dealt a blow to the head strong enough to trigger a cranial hemorrhage and passed away.
At the funeral for his grandfather, he forced himself to stay strong, walling himself to the negative emotions that threatened to overwhelm him. He became his sister's rock, and swore revenge against Team Plasma at all costs upon his grandfather's grave. Though Mei and Kyouhei's parents learned of the whole incident, Hugh's parents asked them to not tell their children of his grandfathers' death.
Team Plasma made news again a short while later at being stopped by Black, White, and their friends.
At the age of thirteen, Hugh, bent on becoming the strongest pokemon trainer in Unova in order to defeat Team Plasma, selected an Oshawott as his starter pokemon alongside Kyouhei and Mei. On the trio's quest through their region to collect the Gym Badges, they learned that Team Plasma was very much alive. The three heroes were close and worked together to bring down Plasma. When he found his sister's pokemon at long last, it had evolved into a Liepard under the Shadow Triad's training. He was overwhelmed with happiness when it was finally returned to him, but shaken to the core upon discovering it was vicious and unlike the pokemon he'd known. It didn't even recognize him.
This broke down the wall he had worked so hard to build and almost released his pent-up frustration and sadness entirely in front of Mei and Kyouhei. That was the most embarrassing moment of his life.
The trio continued on through Victory Road, and at the very end he decided to part ways with them, wanting to train elsewhere and see more pokemon before challenging the Elite Four of Unova and trying to become the Champion.
He traveled to the Sinnoh Region to train for a few years on his own - mostly staying in the mountains splitting through the very center of the region. He consistently trained both himself and his pokemon by climbing the mountains (on hand and foot) and camping out under the stars almost year-round.
One month ago he was informed via passing hiker of the calamities taking place in the pokemon world. Hugh was instantly suspicious, and rushed to descend from the mountains so he could get back to Unova. In his haste, he stepped on the tail of an Arbok that was slithering across his path. The pokemon angrily responded, knocking him off his feet and spraying him with acid. Luckily, the damage was restricted to his torso. However, the powerful acid melted through his clothes and skin, severely burning him. His yells of pain sent the hiker running and he quickly got Hugh to a hospital.
He spent two weeks in the hospital before his hardheadedness finally convinced the doctors to let him go. He got back to Unova as soon as possible, and it took him a while to fully heal. He, Mei, and Kyouhei have all witnessed in some way what the Knights are doing to the world, and although they've each had their own journeys separately and have only recently reunited, Hugh has decided to start rounding up Dex Holders, Gym Leaders, members of the League, and anybody else willing to be at the forefront of the cause against the Knights. It became a personal matter after they attempted (and failed) to kidnap Mei.
| OTHER He has a large scar from the Arbok's acid burn on his chest. It's splattered slightly on one of his arms and part of his throat as well. It has fully healed.
