"but how can you love me" like i have loved you "when you can't even look" me straight in the eye
Lavaridge town had always been the place to go, up until it was turned into heaps of seething ash and dust and burned wood. Faris stood beside a bewildered Applecake, running her fingers along the bird's steel down as if trying to keep her calm, when it was really herself that she was trying to keep in check.
"Nothing looks the same Apple. Look, over there." She turned the Skarmory's attention to the charred remains of what was once the hot springs, which Lavaridge prided itself on. She'd always be found there as a kid, swimming with the others even though it was more of a place for lounging. Her eyes clouded over at the memories and she sighed There would never be a place like this again.
Applecake locked her eyes onto one spot in the mess of char and nothingness, by an area where the old Gym used to be. The same spot she had rescued Faris from just before...everything went down the drain. The Skarmory's gazing had caught Faris's attention, and she too was staring at the area. That was where she had last seen her dear friend Flannery, before she was swept away with the debris in a fiery hot grave.
No one who had been stuck in Lavaridge by that point had survived. There were so many that still had been. It had been totally impossible to save them all, but Flannery didn't believe that. Faris knew that Flannery would have rather died than to be unable to save who she could. But she had never actually wanted her to. The only thing that gave the town any color was the various stuffed animals and flowers people left in the area as respect offerings. There had been a lot of children dead as well.
"I had always wanted to be a gym leader Apple, but not like this, Ho-oh, not like this..." she breathed as she stared at the memorial. The Skarmory gave her a sad nudge with her head, which Faris greeted with a light stroke.
