When you had the ability to trick people into a hypnotised state it was very easy for them to forget you, which was why Evelyn made such a good thief. Surrounded by her warm and gentle fire types she seemed like your every-day specialty trainer in charge of some tricks of the trade. She had convinced more than one trainer in the past twenty four hours to give her their teams and out of it had managed to procure a Seviper and a Zangoose for the society she was a part of. They were not her favourite people, that much was fairly obvious from the disgruntled nature of her tone when she glanced at the people she handed her subjects over to, but when it came to it at least they were giving her food and shelter and a life that wasn't entirely meaningless.
Evie had been alone before she had joined the Knights. She had been living comfortably out in the woods and when it had rained had sewn raincoats for her Pokemon to be shielded beneath. Fire types didn't like the rain after all. When she had joined the Knights, they have given her access to funds she hadn't had. They had given her a tiny little hole in the wall of an apartment but it was enough for she and her rag-tag collection of fire-breathers, and that was enough for her.
Recently however, she had become discouraged. The violence and harsh attitudes of the people whom had become her bosses was starting to affect her. This new world order they talked so much about made her feel uncomfortable and threatened, and she worried for the friends she had made in her early teens, the people whom she had grown up beside in her hometown of Lavaridge. But that was something she couldn't fight, she merely would have to watch from her position because people did not just leave the Knights. Not really.
Leaving the Knights had been the second worst decision she had ever made in her life, that much was certain. Frieda had a massive number of regrets that had piled up all throughout the span of her life time – some that passed as quickly as they were conceived and others dwelled on for years on years before finally being banished from her mind – but she was beginning to find that many of her previous worries were being shoved aside from the recent mess she had gotten herself into. She had done what no man or woman had dared and succeeded in doing – she slipped out of the Knights of Arceus with her life in tact without a word. More than that, even, she had made a name for herself by taking the gym leader examine in Snowpoint City after the previous Gym Leader, Candice's disappearance in a snow storm. Futher more, she'd gotten the position. She had a week's time to let it settle in before she got to work – she figured the man who'd given her the news saw the way she nearly passed out of shock, delight, and a little bit of fear and was kind enough to give her a little time to let it all sink in -and she'd chosen to spend that time hiding in Hoenn. Why? Simple. Because now the Knights, the people who had decimated the entirety of her home region, knew she was out there, alive, and knew where they could find her and she never wanted to not exist more than at that moment.
The only decision she hated herself more for making was joining the stupid group in the first place.
Bubblegum danced around her feet as the last town she'd passed through disappeared over the horizon and she was welcomed into the arms of a seemingly endless field of grassy plains. Or, at least, it would have been if she couldn't see a massive cluster of trees she expected to be a forest over one horizon and the short mountains over another. She figured it was longer horizontally that vertically, anyway. However, her thoughts were abruptly cut off as the Smoochum accompanying her otherwise silent trek across unfamiliar places chose to pause right in front of her right foot and sent her toppling down to the unforgiving ground below. She didn't even have the time to push herself up or even get angry before the young Pokemon was letting out an over dramatic wail and it took a great deal of effort for the red-head to keep herself from flat out growling into the blades of grass tickling her face. Groggily pushing herself up and away from the ground, she scooped the baby Pokemon into her arms, begging it to “shut up before momma's head explodes and ya' get brain guts all over yer face”. Thankfully, the pink-colored ice-type was kind enough to calm down as quickly as she'd gotten riled up; calm down fast enough for her trainer to see another blur of pink not far away.
Before she knew what was happening, the Smoochum was back in her Poke'Ball and the Gym Leader's brown boots were pounding on the ground furiously, their owner tearing across the land in order to throw a familiar and missed figure into a somewhat violent – yet totally affectionate in a way only people like Frie could master – tackle hug. “Evie!” she shouted, taking a leap within a couple feet's radius of the pinkette Knight who she'd befriended while still a grunt. To say she had missed her would be an understatement deserving a punch in the face.

If anyone had asked Evie what she missed most about being a civilian it was the fact that she could more easily see the people she loved and cared for. One of whom she had been missing greatly was another of the Knight's grunts who had somehow fallen completely off the radar. Evelyn didn't know how Frie had managed it, but she had gotten out and the rest of the Knights had been furious, but she had been proud of her. It was something she wished, in a way, that she could do. But Evelyn was not mentally strong enough to manage such a thing.
Her hair blew around her face gently and in long strands, making her a blur in the breeze, as she began to think about other things once more, think about how she could act and what she could do to decrease casualties in the region, when she was tackled sideways.
A shreik befitting a damsel in distress exploded from the young woman's lips and she was about to call something horrible before the voice that had shouted first had managed to register properly in her mind. It was a voice that she knew rather well, a voice that she had worked alongside and appreciated, despite their polar opposites in choice type.
Long, slender fingers curled around Frieda as Evelyn realised who she was holding close to her, and the pink-haired woman allowed herself to smile with realisation. This was her friend, this was someone she cared deeply about. Fingers twined in her hair and Evie paused in joy, closing her eyes. "Frie, I didn't ever expect to see you again.. I was worried that someone might have found you or wanted to hurt you... I haven't heard from you in months. Are you all right?" She spoke softly as she released the other girl from her tight grip, glancing her over quickly.
"And how is that boy who was following you around the last I saw you? Is he still your precious little stalker?" Might as well ask the question, she didn't know how long they would have to talk.

Upon further consideration, Frieda came to the realization that tackle hugging a Knight of Arceus, a good friend or not, was not the greatest idea in the world. She, herself, was very alert and found any action even slightly resembling a threat to be taken as such – a threat – for her days in the group. Had their roles been reversed, should would have likely been thrashing and flailing about wildly if someone tried to throw themselves into her arms rather forcefully. It was evidently that this was not lost on Evelyn, either, seeing as when she came into contact with the taller woman, a shriek of terror tore through her mouth and into the air. Anyone who might have been looking on could have easily mistaken it as the red-haired gym leader trying to attack her and a wave of guilt passed over her as she felt her friend move as if to struggle. However, before any words of reassurance could be uttered, realization also seemed to dawn on the Knight that she was not, in fact, being attacked, and suddenly the hug was being returned. She hadn't felt this happy in weeks, that was for sure. Her arms wrapped more tightly around her in turn, almost as if she were holding on for dear life; a part of her mind honestly believed she was.
“Frie, I didn't ever expect to see you again...” Evie started in a quiet tone, letting her go as she spoke. “I was worried that someone might have found you or wanted to hurt you... I haven't heard from you in months. Are you alright?” That was a tricky question. For starters, she'd almost been caught on many occasions and, with her new position, she was practically sitting under a bright flashing light reading, “HEY, DOOFUSES, COME AND GET ME”, and goodness knew almost everyone in the group she'd left behind wanted her hurt. Dead, more accurately. Therefor, while she was physically and generally mentally unscathed, she doubted it would be that way for long. Of course, if she could help it, she didn't want to drag the pinkette down with her at all; being a Knight was hard enough and no one needed the extra weight of worrying about someone else on their shoulders in times like those. So she lied. “Eh, as I'll ever be. No one's been good enough ta' get to me yet, so... Um... And what about you, huh? The Knights, they aren't – they aren't bein' too mean to ya', are they?” Gosh, she hoped not. No one had ever really been particularly malicious to her during her time spent as a grunt, but that didn't mean that they weren't mistreating others. She'd have to punch a few choice people in the face – or, at least, fantasize about it until she had to accept that she'd probably get herself killed if she tried to stick up for Evie – if they were being rude to they long-haired woman.
However, that train of thought was cut off upon mention of someone else. “And how is that boy who was following you around last I saw you? Is he still your precious little stalker?” The the term “precious” being used in reference to Blaise, she bristled visibly and instantly tried to deny it. “Wh-what'd'ya mean, “precious”? H-he was just some creeper dude!” Of course, she could only speak about him, much less think about him so long before she was painfully reminded of what her situation with him actually was. Letting out a huff, crossing her arms, and almost pouting to try and cover up the disappointment and... well, admittedly, hurt, she continued, “And it... doesn't matter, anyway. He ran off. Guess I wasn't good 'nough for him.”
NOTES;; sorry for the wait to you, as well. OTL like i promised cali, i'm going to try my hardest to post daily or every other day at the very least.

Evelyn could feel the strange sort of tension building up in the girl in her arms. She sometimes felt like all she wanted to do was protect the smaller female, to wrap her up and guard her from the world. Fingers twisted and petted in the dark red ponytail and she smiled down at Frieda, glad to see that at least for the most part, that she was uninjured. She had thoughts that perhaps she could announce to the Knights that she had killed her, to try and give her the freedom to find another way to hide her identity. It was somewhat of a protective barrier she could make, and even if she was punished for it, it would be worth it in the end to be certain that Frieda would be free of the group.
Free the same way Evie sometimes wished she could be. "They are being as they always are. I am barely acknowledged unless I bring in valuable Pokemon for the cause. Though I was given a payrise as someone handed me a Bagon the other day, so I have had some success on that front." She was frowning slightly as she said it, her gentle and feminine face marred by frown lines, though she shook it off almost instantly. "I am safe in the Knights for now, as I am doing my job. That is all they must ask of me and that is all I will give. I do not agree with some of the storms they have caused and the loss of life, but I cannot stop the way they act." Pink hair blew around them in a protective blanket and Evelyn had to wonder what people might think of the strange scene, hugging her friend close as if any moment she might just disappear into thin air once more.
"He ran off?" She was shocked, and bright violet eyes blinked as she finally released Frieda from the hug, letting her stand of her own volition. "Are you certain it wasn't you doing the running off? I'm surprised to hear that he isn't following you around, but I am sorry none the less. If he did not see how special you are then he was not worth it." She patted Frieda's head gently, offering her a warm smile. "What have you been doing since you managed to escape the claws of our evil overlords?"
It was there, wrapped in Evie's arms, that another idea hit her, this time even worse than the one before it. While Frieda had been free as a bird – well, that was an extreme stretch, but there was still a sense of freedom since she'd scampered off into the night without a word – her friend, most certainly, was not. Furthermore, while the Knights of Arceus failed to keep tabs on every single person for every single thing they did, she was still shocked from time to time how much of their members lives outside of work they knew. Like the friends and enemies they made, the places they went to... or the runaways they conversed with. An uneasy feeling settled in her stomach when the idea that her being there, talking to her could have been very well have been putting her into serious danger. If there had been any doubt that a member were conspiring with a runaway, the end result would be as bad as one can expect from a violent criminal organization. However, call her selfish, but even with that knowledge, there was no way she was letting go of Evelyn at that moment. She'd been gone too long and worried too much to do that. And there was a chance that the Knights would never know... right? Again, they didn't keep up surveillance of all of their members twenty-four-seven. She was tough, too; if she hypnotized anyone who might have come after her -
Oh dear. Come after her. As in, with the intent to hurt her. The very idea made the shorter of the two sick to her stomach.
“They are being as they always are. I am barely acknowledged unless I bring in valuable Pokemon for the cause. Though I was given a pay rise as someone handed me a Bagon the other day, so I have some success on that front.” Well, that was good, at least. She couldn't recall either of them saying it flat out, but from what she'd gathered over time, it appeared that their financial issues were generally in the same boat. If anything, Evelyn was even worse off the she was. It was their loss for overlooking someone with such great talent, but at least they rewarded her in some way, albeit small. “I am safe in the Knights for now, as I am doing my job. That is all they must ask of me and that is all I will give. I do not agree with some of the storms they have caused and the loss of life, but I cannot stop the way they act.” Another unnerving feeling was crawling its way through Frieda's body as she realized with a sharp pang that, really, no one could stop the way they acted. If things kept going the way they were going, there would be no stopping the group. And, while they'd given the pinkette a home and a generally stable income of currency, she couldn't help but feel like that was bad overall; she'd do anything to gain the power to take them down with her own hands. Of course, she was never really hero material from the get go, was she? “... That's good,” she mumbled quietly. “If anyone's givin' ya' trouble, send me mind beams and I'll come beat 'em up for you.” Despite the fact that it was a joke – there was no possible way she would ever allow herself within eyesight of a Knight, much less close enough to “beat 'em up” - she couldn't even bring herself to laugh.
The embrace was finally broken off at her bitter remark about Blaise, the fire-type specialist backing away in visible surprise. “He ran off? Are you certain it wasn't you doing the running off?” … Wait. Wait, wait, wait. … Was it her doing the running off? “W-well, I don't think so. I mean, I travel 'round an' stuff, but I didn't disappear off the radar any more or anythin'. But... uh... he sounded like he had something to tell me... or somethin'... the last time we talked. I think? I kinda forgot about it, but maybe... I never really did let him say it, did I...?” Oh, gosh, had she scared away Blaise? “I'm surprised to hear that he isn't following you around, but I am sorry none the less. If he did not see how special you are, then he was not worth it.” Tears were starting to sting in the corners of her eyes despite the caring smile that Evie shot her way and, with a mumble about dust getting in her eye, she furiously rubbed them both with a detached sleeve before any liquids could even think about falling. She didn't even bother to agree.
“What have you been doing since you managed to escape the claws of our evil overlords?” That was an easy question, at least. That she couldn't handle. “Well, I was stupid and now I'm a gym leader. … Surprise?”

"You have nothing to worry about. I can handle myself in times of trouble. Can't you see I'm big and strong?"Considering Evie's stature that statement itself was also laughable, though she attempted to be gentler about it to reassure Frieda that she understood why the red-headed girl couldn't help her out. Having run away meant they were really in danger there together, but Evie wanted to be near her friend for just a while. When you didn't get to see someone you cared about for many months, it made you the opposite of eager to let them go. Her hand reached out to touch the smaller girl's shoulder affectionately, and she scooted a little bit so that they were close together.
Evelyn didn't really know whether or not she was being followed. She figured she would be safe for a while but cast violet eyes left and right quickly to make sure there was no one moving in on them. They appeared safe, but regardless she huddled herself a little closer to Frieda. Worse came to worse she could pretend she was robbing her, or put her under and send her off on Blush. She had plenty of opportunity to get out, after all. Shaking her head, she focused instead on what her friend was telling her and petted her head gently. She would have to figure out a way to make sure that Frieda could secretly get in contact with her without getting them both in trouble.
Maybe they would have to give one another codenames on the phone or something. That could work. She would have to keep thinking about it while they had the opportunity to talk.
Evelyn gave the red-head a small comforting smile as she noticed the pain on her face. All she wanted to do was hug the other girl but she figured that if she got too snuggly people might start to pay attention and the last thing they wanted was for someone to notice and alert the Knights properly. "You disappeared off my radar. So perhaps you sort of disappeared off his too? I don't really know." But she didn't want to keep the topic going and upset her more, so she decided to let the topic fade until Frieda could tell her more of her own volition.
"A gym leader? Oh, Frie! That was very dangerous! You know they'll be able to find you that way! What if they pretend to be challengers and do something horrid! That was silly!" Evie looked horrified. "Can't you get out of it and go back into hiding or something? It seems like you'd be in real danger doing that!"
“You have nothing to worry about,” Evie reasoned. “I can handle myself in times of trouble. Can't you see I'm big and strong?” While anyone who didn't know the Knight would have laughed at this, Frieda had a feeling that, while not the most physically strong person in the world, she easily handled herself in verbal battles and her hypnotism skills were those to be envied, as well as feared. But, even that paired with the fact that there was no possible way she could go near any of the Knights' hideouts without certain death, it still made her angry, knowing that someone could be hurting her emotionally of physically and there wasn't a darn thing she could do about it. At least in the Knights, she could have done more for her friend. But, right now, regretting leaving was about the worst thing she could have done. “Yeah, I know,” she agreed. “Guess you'll just have ya' beat 'em up twice as hard and say the rest was fer me, huh?” she tried to joke again, but it would be hard for anything to really elicit any sort of laugh with this kind of atmosphere handing around them.
To her surprise, it seemed as though her own fears about someone watching or following them were reflected a bit in the taller woman, seeing her eyes darted from one side to the other to make sure that no one else was there. Well, at least that's what the gym leader initially thought. Upon double looking at the action, there was just a possibility that she'd heard something or had been looking for something before the shorter of their strange duo had come a'running. Regardless, the pink-haired woman scooted a bit closer and even that, alone, was enough to make her feel a bit more safe. The feeling couldn't last, though; soon, Evie would have to go back to being a Knight and she would have to go back to being a rookie gym leader and her life would be put into danger once more. How wonderful was that?
In response to her comment comment about not really disappearing off the radar as much as usual, Evelyn said, “You disappeared off my radar. So perhaps you sort of disappeared off his, too? I don't really know.” Biting her lip and thinking about it a bit, Frie started, “Well, that's kinda different, 'cause -” Or was it? She was about to finish with how she was running for her life from the Knights, but that had also lead her to hide herself away more – a lot more – than before. She'd left after her last time seeing Blaise, so maybe the only reason why they hadn't crossed paths was because she was making herself so scarce for survival...? But she'd gone looking for him and... Oi, this was making her head hurt. Running a hand through her bangs again, she shook her head – and with it, a bit of her thoughts away – and finished, “Arg, ya' might be right. Great.”
“A gym leader?” the violet-eyed trainer repeated incredulously. “Oh, Frie, that was very dangerous! You know they'll be able to find you that way! What if they pretend to be challengers and do something horrid! That was silly! Can't you get out of it and go back into hiding or something? It seems like you'd be in real danger doing that!” As it turned out, her friend had simply voiced all of the concerns that the scarlet-eyed teen had been trying to block out ever since she made the stupid decision. Honestly, she had no idea what had made her take the exam and why she'd bothered to accept the position when she'd been lucky enough to pass, and this was only adding to her doubts. “I know, I know!” she said helplessly, adding another hand to her forehead to cradle the beginning of a tiny headache. “I dunno what I was thinking! It was just – the ice-type gym leader disappeared because of the Knights and I felt so bad an' when they actually gave me the position, it was... well, pretty much a childhood dream come true. An' I don't think the league'd be very happy if I up 'n' left now. I've already got the Knights on ma' tail, I don't need to Sinnoh League houndin' on me, too.”

"I'm sure that's definitely do-able, Frie. I will make certain that any people I have to beat up, I'll get in a few extra burns for you." Evelyn reassured, patting her friend on the arm and attempting to laugh along with her. Yes, there was tension in the air but Evie had long since decided that living her life in fear of dying was no way to live at all. She had many things to be pleased about in life - no small one the fact that her friend who she had worried was dead was actually alive and well - and so living on the edge just seemed like a waste. She could at least be happy knowing that Frieda was still her same old, slightly odd but definitely wonderful self. Violet gaze flicked at the red-haired girl and Evie felt a sense of longing for what she had done for herself in their time apart.
Then again, she supposed, Evie wouldn't really like to be a gym leader. It would be too full of responsibility and the need to fight. Non-confrontational as she was, the poor girl would have been a very bad gym leader in general. She would probably have handed out badges without even looking into a battle, and she was certain that was against league rules. Yes, it was most definitely against league rules. Leaning to nuzzle her head against the other girl in an affectionate (and very girlish) way, Evelyn smiled gently at Frieda. she didn't know much about what her friend's life would involve after leaving, but on her own behalf she knew she was going to have to make sure to stay silent. She would never give information about her whereabouts, no matter how the rest of the Knights may torture her.
Unfortunately for Frie, her aggravation over Evie's assumptions and the possibility that they were correct could only cause a slightly amused laugh to spill from her lips, and the girl knew she should really fight the urges to laugh when it came to the matters of the ice-trainer's heart, but honestly, sometimes the red-headed girl seemed very dense to the fact that she could be as much of a handful as anyone, and as much as Evie adored her, she had to think at least some of the blond-haired stalker boy's absence was due to the fact that she had disappeared. Certainly, the young gym leader had every reason to vanish into thin air, considering the strength of the people who would be in pursuit, but it didn't change the fact that she could be hidden while Blaise looked, and perhaps the same in reverse. "Just promise me that if he ever comes back, you will hear him out. I do love a good love story, and you two might make one someday." She teased affectionately, folding her hands on herself.
With a slight frown that indicated her concern more than her displeasure, Evie nodded. "Well I suppose all you can do now is make certain your gym has security measures, and try not to be too elaborate and over the top in your practices until you know for sure that the Knight's can't get to you. If you're lucky, you'll stay under their radar for the most part until the other trainers in the gym know the threats and you know your security. I'll keep an eye out for you, and if I hear any talk I'll try to set them on a different trail. I have powers of persuasion, after all."
