Tallulah is a very special pokemon to Hugh as she was his starter pokemon. Although she was not his first, she is very dear to him and his primary choice when it comes to battling, unless there is a pokemon she would clearly not stand a chance against on the field. He has worked with her tirelessly to make her as strong as she is now, and their bond is incredibly strong. She has the ability Torrent which, when matched with Rain Dance, makes her water-type attacks incredibly powerful, and a good way to quickly get out of a sticky situation. She is decently fast, too, and can move quicker than expected for her size. Outside of battle, though, she is actually rather timid and nervous to meet others unless Hugh consoles her. Her Nevermeltice is generally held between the bridge of her snout and the portion of her shell-helmet that dips down between her eyes.
His first pokemon, Havilah is one of the pokemon Hugh received from his Grandfather all those years ago, and the first he released from its pokeball. This dragon has the ability Levitate which Hugh makes good use of in battle - the ability to avoid being hit by ground-type moves but at the same time being able to use them against the opponent. Though ice types generally pose a threat to Havilah, Hugh has trained her to focus on striking fast and striking hard. Outside of battle he uses her for speedy transportation over relatively short distances. Despite the fact she is one of his more dedicated fighters, she has a soft heart and is almost like the mother figure of the team, particularly towards newer pokemon.
Hugh met Zephyr years ago when he was just a tiny Rufflet that fell from his nest over Village Bridge and into the water below. Hugh's quick thinking and snap-fast reflexes saved the bird pokemon just moments after it hit the water, essentially saving the newborn pokemon from drowning. It was exhausted and an easy capture. Nursing it back to health, Hugh soon developed a strong relationship with the young pokemon, and it turned out to be one of the happiest pokemon on his team. It tries to keep the rest of the team up-beat and will occasionally have an intentionally clumsy moment to make Hugh smirk. Zephyr has the ability Sheer Force and can deliver incredibly powerful hits because of it, making him a key asset in battles that need a strong attacker. Hugh also uses this pokemon for long-distance flights.
The second pokemon his grandfather gave to him, Hugh received Tlaloc as a little Tynamo. It is a very friendly pokemon, and has always been one to try to snuggle with people and pokemon alike. Now that it's an Eelektross it's often rejected by those that don't think its cute or looks sort of odd, but he doesn't let that get him down. He has the ability Levitate which is rather useful when it comes to avoiding powerful ground-type moves in battle. This pokemon plays a mixed role in Hugh's team, and its wide variety of moves often poses a surprise for people who aren't familiar with how he battles. The Expert Belt it holds is wrapped around its neck in a similar fashion to a tie.
Odin was one of the most difficult pokemon for Hugh to capture over the span of his journey. He encountered the pokemon on Mount Coronet of Sinnoh during his time there. It fought a fierce battle and surprised Hugh with its strength. He eventually managed to capture it and it has become a strong asset to his team, as its high speed, strong defense, and brilliant attack are all incredibly helpful in battle. It's wide range of moves make it a mixed bag for the sort of pokemon it can go up against. It is unafraid to take on any pokemon, even fighting-types, and will give his all in a fight. His rare ability Anger Point plays into this well, as his attacks become drastically stronger if he takes more damage than usual from a hit. The usually ill-tempered pokemon respects Hugh as it can see the power and passion he has as a trainer, and it has seen that his trainer is brave as well. The Focus Band is tied around its right foreleg, similar to a polo wrap.
This pokemon is one of Hugh's strongest, and required the least amount of training seeing as Hugh obtained it while it was a Metagross. He saw it get abandoned by its trainer for whatever reason deep within the heart of Mount Coronet. Hugh saw the hiker from a distance throw the pokeball into the water. When Hugh angrily faced the man and demanded to know his reasoning, the hiker acted as though he had no idea what Hugh was talking about. Not bothering to waste his breath, Hugh retrieved the pokeball from the bottom of the small lakebed and released the pokemon. It had seen everything through the pokeball and soon switched its loyalty to Hugh as a debt for saving it. The pokemon is quick to make decisions regarding itself or its environment, particularly in battle. It has the Clear Body ability which serves useful in battle, as its strength or speed can not be reduced by techniques many pokemon have.
