When you were working on something and you thought that it was just about there it was hard to put it down. And unfortunately for the female of the Johto trio, she had been on that just about spot for weeks and weeks. Ever since she'd moved to Ecruteak, Crystal had thrown herself into work. No time to play or make coffee calls when the fate of the world rested in your hands. And with the Knights acting out every day, trying to push the League out of power, well, that was exactly how the world felt.
With an annoyed huff, she kept her eyes trained on the screen she'd been studying for hours and realised with a slight shock that the date was so much later than she remembered it being. She had been so caught up in her work trying to find the legendary dogs that she and her companions had paired up with before that she had barely registered the passing of days. Life had been about sleeping and investigating. The more she thought about how little she had registered the passing of time, the more she felt her stomach growling.
She had been neglecting food, too.
Closing the laptop, the Pokedex holder decided that it was time to give it a break. Standing up she knew that she had really begun to neglect life itself. Most of which was her friends, whom she thought, with a slight frown, she hadn't checked on in all of that time.
Well, neither of them had checked in either, but she was the one who tended to worry and fuss, and if something had happened, Crystal wouldn't forgive herself for not making the effort to check in more frequently.
A phone call not enough to satisfy her concerns, Crystal tidied herself up and gathered up a coat as she closed the door behind her. Even if she tried to call Silver or Gold, they rarely answered their phones and she wanted a visual confirmation that everything was right with them. That they were unharmed. With a nod, she closed the door behind her and made her way out.
A surprise drop in would be the best. And it meant she would have some fresh air too, when she inevitably returned to her work. Hand briefly checked her Pokeballs and she pulled her coat on as she began the walk towards where she hoped one of her friends might be. Silver tended to travel, so it was always hit or miss, should she come looking, but at least she could say she tried.
The trees that were on the horizon, between she and Goldenrod City were inviting, giving her a clear sight of the way home. She could go the long way, or go straight through violet city, but for now she wanted to stick to the tree line. If nothing else, she felt safer there. There was cover there. And with the talk of kidnappings and harassment of the female dex holders, well, she wasn't going to take any chances.
It was funny in a way, how one thing could encompass everything and make one forget about everything else. For Silver, it had been training. After splitting ways with Lance he'd gone on his own path, travelling, learning, experiencing - and somehow during all of that, he'd completely forgotten to check in with either of his friends. When he had realised how long it had been since he'd tried getting in touch with Gold or Crystal, there had been a moment of guilt. A moment of guilt that had passed the moment it crossed his mind that if they needed him, no doubt they would call. Either it was that they didn't need him, or that they were both busy with their own things, both options which were completly acceptable to one of the most reclusive of their group.
Undeniably, Silver adored the both of them - if that was really the word that applied to how he felt about them and not nauseating headaches or frustrated loathing at times. Yes, he enjoyed their company but there were also days when the pair of them was a little too much - hell one of them at a time could be more than too much. So the space wasn't exactly unwanted, or unneeded. When he caught up with them again, it would be with a full load of tolerance and the ability to handle even Gold for an entire... Hour. An hour would be good.
The time had continued to pass, however, with no word and even Silver began to worry.
He'd been intending on seeing Kalos, but with the time passing and still no word, it had been to stay in Johto, and to try and find them if only to check up on them. It would have been so simple to fly, but last he had heard, it wasn't exactly like Crystal was moving around nor was it like it was that far away. Problems weren't just going to go away because the day was nice, and if something had happened, he'd never be able to forgive himself for not doing something about it. Maybe it was that the day was nice, or that Weavile was clearly enjoying walking beside him, but Silver was fairly certain they hadn't been walking for more than an hour or two before spotting that very familiar shock of blue hair. Without out even realising it, Silver allowed the smallest of smiles to curve his lips as he approached her. "Crystal, I was worried. I'm glad to see you're safe."
Crunching leaves beneath her feet, the chill of the air and the fact that she was walking casually made the shock of a voice she knew ever more shocking. With a quick blink as she registered the who of whose voice it was, Crystal looked up and let relief rush over her face. With Gold she would have instantly hurried over and smothered him with a hug. With Silver, a little more reservation remained. It was not necessarily a good idea to push the physical boundaries of their friendship with him.
And yet, when she recognised that he was relieved of her own safety, her own overwhelmed her and she thought that the smile was enough of an invitation. And in one surge forward the only woman of the trio threw her arms around him and tightened him into one of her hugs. "I was just coming to see you, Silver! I wasn't sure if you'd be around but I was worried. And you look safe too, which is an added bonus." She half-muttered as she released her grip a little, shuffling against him as she considered taking a step back, but was too relieved in the grip to let go just yet.
She would always be the last to let go. "What are you doing here, though? I thought you'd be out exploring or home at least. Even maybe in Kanto. I'm glad to see you though, just wasn't expecting to catch you halfway between our houses." She squeezed him once again, and looked up at him with a smile. "All in all I'm glad to see you. You read my mind when you said my name!" She nodded.
"Crys--" The words were cut off instantly as her arms came around him, and Silver was caught between a startled gasp and a strangled groan as she pressed against him. For a moment, Silver simply stood there, arms half curled around her and yet not touching her as she practically nuzzled in like he was Gold or something. After a moment, he rested his hands lightly on her lower back and petting gently. There. There. There... Get off me. Seriously. He didn't move for another moment though as she spoke, just letting her hold him and taking some kind of comfort in it that was weird and unusual and-- ohgod, get off. "Uh. Yeah. I'm fine." He muttered, attempting to squirm out of her arms instead of staying where he was. There was only so much of the touchy feely thing that he could do. Blue was bad enough, he didn't need to add running from Crystal to the list of things he seriously had to be doing.
"I hadn't heard from you. Gold's not around." Please let the answer be no. There was only so much over emotional contact that Silver could do in a day and if Crystal was feeling well enough and emotionally hyped enough to hug, he had to hope that Gold wasn't going to jump on him at any point. Like out of no where. That would be entirely terrifying. "Oh. I was." It was hard to remember after extended time with his team that Crystal couldn't just hear the ends of his sentences and that he had to make a real effort to go through with completing them. At the same time, the effort to continue talking was almost not worth it. "For a while. I was hanging around Kanto for a bit, and then I came back here, helping with things. I was coming to see how you were. If something happened and I didn't..." Okay, nope, nope with the feelings. Coughing to cover the momentary lapse in personality that was worry for Crystal, Silver managed a shrug, finally squirming out of her arms to give her a gentle pat on the shoulder.
"I'm... glad to see you too, Crys. What have you been up to?" After all, he had been worried. Just a little bit. Teeny bit. And besides if he could just get her talking about what had been happening with her, maybe they wouldn't have to do the whole "i missed you" thing more than once.
The world-famous catcher had not expected Silver to respond much to the embrace, but was satisfied completely by the gentle petting he provided. It was enough to calm her needy, mothering emotions and she was comfortable for a few short moments as she hugged her friend. "No, I haven't heard much from Gold either," The blue-haired girl pondered as she released the squirming and probably very uncomfortable boy from her grasp. "He'll show up when he gets to be a hero, you know." Silver had been asking for it, smiling like that. It was unusual enough for a smile to make it's way into her line of vision, she would have taken advantage of the situation in that case regardless of the fact they'd been away for some time. The distance, however, was just added incentive. Flattening her clothes and straightening up as she moved away from the red-haired boy, looking him over to make a more thorough examination of his person.
Had to make sure there was no damage to those all-important body parts that made up one of her best friends. "Ah, Kanto. I'm sure Blue appreciated your proximity if nothing else. You two always did get along so well." She hummed as she checked their location briefly. Still enough tree-line that she didn't feel utterly exposed and have to be completely on edge. Good.
Picking the trunk of a tree, she leant more casually against it and gave him a much warmer, less 'I'm going to pounce on you and smother you with my affection' smile. Despite her slight overreaction to his presence, the young researcher was always pleased to see either of her friends, and Silver just so happened to be the more responsible one of the pair, so it was always a relief to see him when situations were dire. It also proved to her time and time again about how much he had grown since they were eleven years old and fighting the big baddies of their region.
They'd since stopped the Rockets from taking control of Sinnoh's legendary pokemon, and seen a great deal of other evils come and go from their world. Where once it would have been easy to doubt Silver's heart, she found no trance of mistrust there now. Pleasure, in fact, replaced it. Pleasure to see someone whom had spent ten years of their life dealing with her and still hadn't told her to sod off. That was, in her opinion, definitely an added bonus. Especially since one of her other friends had passed, leaving her with one fewer on her already intimate list of companions.
"Research. I asked the Professor to give me some time off and have been chasing some leads. I figure now that the Knights have Arceus, which we couldn't prevent, we'll be needing some decent backing of our own." She mused, trying to keep her description fairly brief. As soon as she started she found it hard to stop talking about the legendary dogs and what she'd been finding out about them, but there were probably more important things to talk about than her studying. He might have more dire news, after all.
