PERSONALITY Positives ● Determined - To a worrying point, even. Lance doesn't give up. He has an army of Pokémon under his wing, and despite growing a lot less cocky over the years, if he decides he'll lend his and his team's hand to any cause, he'll not give up until he feels there's no other way out. It makes what is already a considerably strong resource a fearful one: A man who only stops when the life of his Pokémon become endangered. ● Strategist - Long are the days of the young man who just shouted Hyper Beam at the nearest opponent. Lance has learned to plan ahead more carefully and be more thoughtful in general about his course of action. This included every aspect of his life, not just professional or battling ones. ● Adaptable - Continuing the trend of planning ahead in general, the dragon master has learned to be prepared for whatever is thrown at him, being able to think fast a solution to most situations. It doesn't make him invulnerable to surprises, though: Nobody said said solutions always work, or that they even do in general. ● Patient - Another quality mastered over the years, he has learned that sometimes, rushing in to what he wants is not the correct way of doing things. This also spans in the form of long-term goals: While he doesn't like the people the knights are going to put running the show, he knew they're the most solid chance of establishing an unified government not based solely on power, or at least the first step at it. What comes after that can wait. ● Loyal - A bit tricky to describe, but even if they fight on opposite ends, some people such as Red, Green and Yellow have actually impressed and surprised Lance to a degree he actually cares for them. As such, he'll never harm these people beyond the point he ever needs to should they go against him, and will protect them if their lives are in danger. ● Serious - He never has been one for jokes or overall silliness, but his cocky past self allowed for such trivial matters in the past. No more. These are times of war and radical change, and not the time to act like a child. It takes either a very fond friend or moment for him to allow himself to loosen up, and even then, don't expect much. ● Self-reliant - While he doesn't outright refuse help, he's quite confident in his abilities and can handle several situations alone other couldn't. Lance also rarely goes out on his own to ask for help, thinking it would only be a bother to others around him and, depending on how arrogant he feels, a bother to himself. Negatives ● Distant - While he's totally able to put himself in other's place and has lost much of his innate cruelty, Lance is not one for...social interactions. He doesn't spend much time among people talking, and prefers the company of his Pokémon in general. ● Stubborn - Alas, the past doesn't let go easily. The Dragon Master is stubborn as a rock and won't budge until he sees his Pokémon and himself are at risk of losing their life, or that his goal is already long lost for sure. Until then, Lance will not give up - no matter what. It is to be remarked his definition of life threatening is quite flexible, considering he mostly ignores self injuries and can heal his Pokémon. ● Careless - At least concerning his own health. It takes a rather serious injury for him to actually stop and think things might get dangerous if he doesn't heal the wounds. ● Prone to anger - Might sound a bit conflicting with patient, but in fact, while he can wait, the problem is when a plan fails, or things in general just don't go as expected in a way it is hard to adapt to, or, way more frequently, a person gets on his nerves, what isn't too hard. Accepting defeat is a sign of weakness to him, and weaknesses show they aren't ready to reach their goal to the world. ● Prone to violence - Well, he destroyed Vermilion. Lance is no stranger to violence to get what he wants, and while he's not a cruel person anymore and doesn't outright favor slaughter, he sees casualties as in any war. An unpleasant and tragic inconvenience to be avoided...if possible. ● Arrogant - What's this? Arrogant? After all the talk about maturing? Well, he's way less than he was all those years ago, but he still is quite a bit. He is the Dragon Master, after all; don't treat him as a subordinate. That was a thing many of the Knights learned. He was never a subordinate, he was someone who agreed with their ultimate goal. ● Conflicted - Due to his contact with people such as Yellow, he frequently wonders if the path he's taking is the right one. While he knows the ideals of these knights are by the most part despicable, or at least of their lowly subordinates, their ultimate goal could potentially start a new era in Pokéarth, of peace and prosperity, for once not tainted with wars over petty reasons than ended up with thousand of dead Pokémon and trainers, Likes ● Spending time with Pokémon - Naturally for someone who once sought to eliminate all of humanity to crate a paradise for Pokémon, the Dragon Master has a fondness for them in general and feels a lot more comfortable around the creatures than, say, around actual people. ● Battling - While most of his younger self had now matured, he's still a show off at heart. He knows he's the Champion of Johto, and he acts as such. Lance didn't raise a dragon army to stand back and show humility. Showing his skill in battle and using it to achieve his goals is one of the few things he can do well, and definitely what he can do best. ● Flying - Even if one giant dragon snake-like Pokémon, it stills counts as flying, and it's his hobby. Lance finds it very relaxing to just rest or meditate above the clouds sometimes, making it much easier to collect his thoughts. ● Speeches - He may be an ex-villain but dammit he was a villain, and he rolled with the best of them, and as any villain with any self worth, he could talk for hours. Speeches. Goddamn speeches. And he could ramble about his goals, about how it'd all make sense in the end, all while feeling a smug self satisfaction at the fact he could do so. As much of his cocky self was subsided, it is rare he gets a chance to abuse semantics again, but if he does, he'll surely be enthusiastic about it. ● Spending time alone - Sometimes, he just needs some alone time to think about things. While given his reputation and habits he's by no means a person who frequently engages in social events, even just standing around grunts can be a tiring activity at times, just for the fact they're people in a considerable quantity. As any introvert, sometimes he needs to recharge by immersing himself in his thoughts. Dislikes ● Losing - Okay, this one seems a bit obvious, right? Everyone hates losing. Well, it's a special case for Lance. We're talking about someone who spent most of his early life vowing to avenge the mistreatment of Pokémon, with no other motivation whatsoever, and what did he spent his time on? Training. Making his Pokémon stronger than others, climbing to the highest level that could be reached: The Elite Four. His battling abilities are his only quality, his main defining characteristic, and in his eyes, pretty much his only asset in general. ● Seeing whoever he cares for hurt - And for now, this mostly comprises of his Pokémon. Lance is absurdly protective and upon any serious injury he'll jump in with little regard for his own condition and heal the injured creature with his mysterious powers. While he deeply respects the Déx holders that stopped his original plot and wishes for no harm to come to them, being able to help if needed, actual care is still a few feet away. Still, he treats respect very seriously, and though he'll never admit it, he also carries a bit of admiration for them, specially Red and Yellow. ● Energetic people - This needs some explaining. He just hates when he's trying to talk to someone(read:delivering another speech) and the target just hops around aimlessly, or doesn't let him talk, or keeps being annoying or rude on purpose or not, and just gets on his damn nerves in general. He's got quite a temper for people. ● Crowds - Lance really dislikes crowded places, or just large amounts of people in general, specially if he has to go all incognito and shit in the midst of them. It makes him feel extremely uneasy and kind of exposed. ● Mistreatment of Pokémon in general - This one should be obvious kids. If you mistreat Pokémon, the big scary man with a cape and a Dragonite will Hyper Beam you to death, furiously so! Seriously though, don't mess with Pokémon or he'll mess with you. Goals ● To unite the nations under one banner - Lance isn't fully okay with the Knights taking power, considering they've proven themselves to be a little out of control sometimes, but he does admit the leader isn't that bad and the potential of all the regions being under one government is astonishing. No more wars or the strongest taking leadership, and in due time, this could turn into a more democratic, functional system. But first, they had to make it happen. ● To become the strongest trainer in the world - This is sounding like such a cliche, but this is the guy who once wanted to destroy humanity. Power is one of the few things he had a good grasp on. He'll keep training to become stronger, so he's able to overcome any obstacle in his path. ● To take control/befriend a Dragon type Legendary Pokémon - Yeah, that. He likes dragons, he likes power, that'd be great. ● Train weaker, wounded or abandoned Pokémon - He is aware many see him as an evil person, and he doesn't wish for that image to last. Lance only wants what's best for Pokémon, after all. After the dust settles, he plans to make ends meet and restore his image by helping wounded and abandoned Pokémon he finds in the wild to grow strong under his wing, and then give them only to responsible trainers who prove their worth, if given at all. ● Become the Gym Leader of Blackthorn City - The title that was taken from his father, even if in due right due to a weakness of the heart in his resolve, is one Lance wishes to take back once the Knights succeed. It's how he'd like to spend his days once he feels humanity and Pokémon are heading towards the future he thinks it's best. Fears ● The defeat of the Knights - History is written by the victors. While Lance is assured at long term the victory of the Knights will result in a more peaceful, united land, with less slaughter of Pokémon and humans in useless wars, that's not the way things will end up seeming like if they lose. Lance will lose any reputation he still has, branded as a criminal, eternally damned to never be seen as anything more. ● Enclosed spaces - When the man was just a boy, he spent pretty much most of his teenage hood in the wild, training his Pokémon. Lance is not a big fan of them and if stuck inside one will begin to lose his cool very, very fast. ● Complete darkness - Focus on the complete, with no possibility of sight at all. Having no visibility is simply terrifying to him, independent of the scenario. ● Being overran - So far, few have defeated the Dragon type trainer, for good reasons. He's not the Johto Champion for nothing, after all. But in a world child prodigies grow stronger every single time they appear, Lance secretly fears being overran by their talents, being left behind as just another average run-of-the-mill trainer. ● The death of someone he cares about - The male treats bonding very seriously, and if he bonds with someone, be it a human or one of his Pokémon, the Champion will try to protect them with every fiber of his body. If he fails, however, to the extreme degree of the death of the protected, handling it will be one of the most painful processes he'll have to endure in his life.
HISTORY ● Lance was born in Viridian forest in a warm summer day, however the circumstances of his birth were quite unusual. His father had given up the position of Gym Leader in Blackthorn City(which required pure Blackthorn blood shenanigans) to marry a woman from Viridian City, and the boy was brought to life in the midst of the Viridian Forest where his parents had decided to build their home, in the outskirts of the city. Given this unusual birth place and mysterious forces, Lance was born with the powers of the Viridian forest, a rare gift for someone to possess. ● When growing up, things were fairly normal. As a young boy, Lance was raised around his father's Dragon-type Pokémon, and it wasn't long until he receive his first Pokémon, a Dratini that eventually became his Dragonite. The kid also liked to fish from time to time, and eventually caught a Magikarp. Lance also distracted himself by playing with Claire, the daughter of the actual Blackthorn City's Gym Leader at the time. When he turned ten, the boy began insisting to begin his journey, and as much as his parents tried to convince him to wait, Lance had his father's will and determination, and when denied, he just went off on his own, getting his first badge in less than a week and only then gaining their approval. ● Even that young, he set off and, unfortunately, experienced first-hand the mistreatment of Pokémon by the greedy and powerful, in the forms of pollution, use for crime and exploration in general. Sickened by what he saw, specially after toxic sludge hurt his Dratini and Magikarp, Lance vowed to destroy those who hurt Pokémon. As he made progress in his quest over the years, he continued to only see the worse misuses of Pokémon by humans, and his hatred grew stronger each year that passed. ● Eventually, his initial vow to crush those who abused Pokémon was corrupted for a will to destroy all of humanity and create a safe oasis for Pokémon to live in. Blinded by his goal, Lance became part of the Elite Four, and the self proclaimed strongest trainer in all of Kanto. He planned to use the Badge Energy Amplifier to summon Lugia to wipe out Kanto anew, coming as far as doing atrocities such as destroying Vermilion City. However, he was stopped by the Pokédex Holders, the Gym Leaders and specially Yellow, who managed to defeat him and scare Lugia away. ● It wasn't often he lost control of Dragon Pokémon, and curious as to know who Lugia's true owner was, he disappeared to discover more about the mysterious Legendary Pokémon. For quite a while, he worked behind the scenes, helping Silver and the other Déx Holders defeat the Team Rocket branches in Johto and The Masked Man, and after that disappeared once more. A few years later he warned Oak about the rise of a new Team Rocket and their plans to summon Arceus, requesting that a Déx Holder be sent to meet him. ● Gold was sent, only to meet his Dragonite in an injured frenzy and Lance himself wounded badly. After defeating the Dragonite, Gold leaves to take care of the problem the Déx Holders were having with Arceus, but not before Lance gave him some advice, warning him he should first connect with his own Pokémon before connecting with the Legendary. Annoyed, Gold left with a Shiny Stone the Dragon Master gave him just in case, and left Bugsy taking care of the redheaded man. ● Lance then left to find someone who could help with Gold's battle with Arceus, and later battled the Sinnoh Creation Trio with the help he had found, curiously enough, Giovanni and Pryce. He had convinced the two men to put aside their differences after he found Giovanni attacking Pryce in a fit of rage as the old man was stuck in a crack in time in Ilex Forest. After revealing to Gold that the cowardly Petrel only had managed to wound him by disguising himself as Yellow, the one with the same birthplace and powers as him, Giovanni entrusted the training of his son, Silver, to the Dragon Master and Pryce, so that he one day Silver and Giovanni could meet each other in battle as equals. ● Quite some time was spent training the red haired boy, but eventually Lance parted ways and in his own journey, became the new Champion of the Johto region and stood by that position for a few years, alongside some of his old companions that now were part of the new Kanto Elite Four. A few years passed, with Lance never forgetting his goal to wipe out the world of those who abused Pokémon. ● He contacted quite a few teams over the years, hoping their goals would match his. Lance observed Galactic, which planned to create a safe haven for Pokémon, but now understanding the bond between the creatures and humanity is essential, he didn't agree with Cyrus' goals. The same went for Plasma, but the Dragon Master was particularly enraged when they turned out to be liars and thieves, but that solved itself with new heroes of the truth and ideals. ● The Champion then briefly sided with Team Flare indirectly, but soon discovered the views of their leader, Lysandre, conflicted with him considerably. While a extreme method such as wiping out most of civilization anew went quite against Lance's new vision of only eradicating the abusers, the leader of Team Flare had a point, as that could work. Unfortunately, he saw no way for humans and Pokémon to live in peace with each other, and planned to exterminate all of the world's Pokémon. Finding this detail unacceptable, the Dragon Master backed off the Team's activities, but never actively went against them, knowing that just as humanity had to prove itself worthy of survival when he planned to exterminate all of it, Pokémon would have to do the same alongside their trainers to defeat Lysandre, and as predicted, that happened. ● But then, the Knight of Arceus' attacks started. At first they seemed like a bunch of common thugs gone too powerful who just wanted control and power, and Lance went in murderous rage after the group after they killed the Kanto Elite Four in one fell swoop; however, a talk with the Knights revealed their intentions. Just like Lysandre, they wished unity, the end of corruption and the dawn of a golden age with no wars or abuse of Pokémon, and decided to join them. With the time of the battle against Yellow long past, Lance had quite opened up to the idea that, in the real, adult world, some losses have to be taken from the greater good...And while he was promised no more petty massacres and will try to keep casualties to a minimum, Lance decided that any deaths will be worth the final goal, the world he had long dreamed of, where no Pokémon would be mistreated...and as the newly appointed admin who will soon reveal his face to the world, he'd have a personal hand in making sure that vision was achieved.
OTHER ● Lance was gifted with the powers of the Viridian Forest. This means he can read and understand Pokémon's thoughts and emotions, heal their wounds upon contact. He's also capable of mild telekinesis in the lifting of simple objects like Pokéballs. Unlike Yellow, who may or may not be able to use her powers on humans to a degree, Lance's powers don't work with other people at all. ● Unique to him, though, is the power to brainwash and control any Dragon-Type Pokémon or ones similar to one such as Tyranitar and Gyarados, though this ability grows less likely to work the stronger the bond between the Pokémon and his trainer or just how strong the creature is in general. ● Due to his change of philosophy after losing to Yellow, though, even if someone stands in his way, Lance generally avoids using this brainwashing power on both trained and wild Pokémon, considering it immoral to force someone to fight for him. Occasions in which he breaks this are extremely rare, almost exclusively to save someone he cares for, be it person or Pokémon. ● He respects Red, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Giovanni, and Pryce, but he has very mixed feelings about Yellow in general; Sometimes, Lance thinks of the girl as a little sister he feels compelled to protect, like, well, a protegé. Sometimes he thinks of her as a good friend, even though that's just his imagination considering the last time they saw each other was in that battle all those years ago, in which they were against each other. And sometimes, it's something completely different.
