It was a nice day for a picnic if you asked Mei. The sun was shining and the Floccessy ranch had appealed to the young girl's need to be outside of her hometown for just a short while. But what was a day out in the nice weather without her friends. The rumour mill had been awash with the knowledge that Kyouhei had returned from his travels. Finally, She had mused, slightly annoyed that it had taken him as long as it had to get back from Sinnoh, It's not like we missed you or anything. So, in an explosion of genius, the brunette had sent text messages to both Kyouhei and Hugh to invite them to 'The Grand Picnic of Mei and fun and awesome!'
The message had read somewhat awkwardly, but it had left no room for the pair to pull out. She had said that she had food for three and if either of them chose not to come it would be wasted, and she was also bringing Pokemon food so they ought to bring their teams. That way there was no getting out of her plans for the day. Nosiree, Mei was not going to let them get away from her that easily.
In a surprising feat, Mei had awoken early to check the weather report was still shining. She had prayed there would be no freak storms as she had set out with her prepared picnic basket and blanket and made the trek alongside her Arcanine to the ranch filled with Mareep and other cute Pokemon. Knowing the owners, she had asked prior to walking in if she would be allowed to have a day there and they had agreed, even suggesting a nice shady tree for the friends to camp out under. Mei had done the girly thing and set-up the blanket in a way that showed it was a true effort.
Grass spread out around the lonely tree she had set up camp beneath and she thought momentarily that if their Pokemon decided to play fight at least the Mareep and Flaaffy wouldn't be affected by stray attacks.
It was nearing lunchtime by the time she had finished setting the blanket and baskets and plates out. She slumped down at the edge of the blanket, eyes closed as she waited for her friends to arrive. They would come, they had to. Or she'd be on her own. Listening to the sounds of her team play in the grass - and the bleeting of the Mareep in their pens. Yes, this was the perfect day for a picnic.

SLUTTERZ as MEI, SHEO AS KYOUHEI
Hugh stared at the message left on his C-Gear, reading the text as Odin’s trotting hoofbeats brought them forward, through the gates of Floccessy Ranch. Mei’s message had come unexpectedly that morning, actually waking the spiky-haired teen up, seeing as the device on his wrist had beeped loudly in his ear. He hadn’t been upset, though, more something along the lines of curious and even vaguely excited for whatever his friend had in store. Rumors had flown, that was for sure – rumors that Kyouhei had finally come back. The prodigal son returns… Hugh thought as the Tauros beneath him slowed to a walk as Mei came in sight. His rival had been gone even longer than Hugh himself had been. Hopefully the guy had at least told her something, rather than copying Hugh’s image and leaving without a word to either of them.
He hops off of the pokemon’s back when they’re a few meters out, instantly reaching a gloved hand forward to place over the bridge of Odin’s nose, gently pulling the pokemon to a stop. He assumed Kyouhei would show up in due time. It wasn’t exactly something they’d both verbally acknowledged, even sheepishly to each other, but a request (or in this case, something closer to a demand) from Mei was something the both of them always had trouble denying.
Imagine that…two boys at this girl’s every whim. The teen closes his eyes and smirks slightly, sinking behind his funnel-collar to hide the expression before he regains himself, looking down at Mei before shoving his hands ungracefully in his pockets and approaching. ”Hey, Mei.” Hugh turns to the Tauros and nods, sending the pokemon ambling off a short distance before beginning to graze peaceably beside the Mareep and Flaaffy, separated by only fenceposts.

It had been a while, really. Sinnoh was great for training, and Kyouhei was surprised he never met up with Hugh while there, but he guessed it was a difference in the area preferred for training: Kyou much more preferred areas with a good amount of vegetation...and shady trees for him to sleep under. Truth to be said, it was as much of a vacation as it was training: The boy spent a lot of time just dozing around or playing gastronomical explorer.
But alas, he has finally decided to return, resting on Geatta's backs as she flew back to Unova in a comfortable pace, read slow and kinda 'we'll get there sometime' pace. The reason for his return was already important, with the rumours of these Knights of Arceus going around, and obviously the tragedy in Johto. Reuniting with the rest of the trio seemed like the logical solution. However, after an unfortunate message delivered on his X Transceiver, Kyouhei grabbed the Pokémon's back with a tight grip, screaming for the golden Pidgeot to go as fast as she could.
She was waiting for him.
And you don't leave Mei waiting. Oh no mister, you don't. That's the girliest, smallest ball of unmeasurable rage a person could ever see, but a ball of unmeasurable rage nonetheless. Where was it again? Floccessy ranch? Ok, he could get there. It was only couple hours of travel considering their distance to Unova, and time flies quickly when you're desperate. It neared noon when he was finally getting there, and Kyou crossed his fingers hoping he was on time.
Commanding Geatta to dive as they flew above the ranch, Hugh and Mei would only see a golden blur before it dove just in front of Hugh, a gust of wind accompanying her, and a boy hopping out before the Pidgeot coming to a complete halt, rolling around in the grass for a while before getting up, smiling awkwardly, standing a few feet away from the pair while scratching the back of his head, partially because there was grass all over his hair.
"That was intended." Nice first words after years of travel, Kyouhei. Real smooth.
Post by MEI MORIMOTO on Oct 31, 2013 22:48:53 GMT 9.5
"According to my--" According to what they would never know as a very familiar mop of palm-tree hair appeared in Mei's line of vision and she yelped ut loud as it rolled around on the grass for a few moments before sitting up and being as completely and utterly Kyouhei as she had always remembered.
The brunette girl stoppd for a moment, blue eyes glistening in a combination of absolute joy and sheer, undeniable rage, before she stomped over and threw her arms around Kyouhei in the most aggressive hug she had ever given. "About as intended as how much I hate you." She said in way of greeting and released him as quickly as she had taken hold, before looking at Hugh again with wide and thankful eyes that he had been there as she had asked.
"You're both here. I don't actually know what to do right now because this is the first time in four years we've all been together and I don't know if I want to cry or fall over." She blinked, before half-grinning and flopping down on the grass in a heap of Mei-limbs and hair. "So you can start explaining where you have been, mister, because we have lots to tell too and I want to know exactly why you've been ignoring my calls for this long. Anyone would start to think I'm some crazy ex-girlfriend out to stalk you."
Moving over to the Qwiflish-haired boy's side as if he was a protective barrier, she took a deep breath and crossed her legs as she tugged on the fabric of his pants gently to indicate he sit beside her. "I have plenty of food and I want you to tell me everything from the beginning. And don't leave out the messy bits."

SLUTTERZ as MEI, SHEO AS KYOUHEI
The streak of gold mere feet from him caused the Qwilfish-haired teen to recoil, startled. Mei made the surprise they shared audible, while Hugh took a defensive step backward and raised his arm before his eyes, protecting them from the dust that flew as the bird pokémon and trainer stopped way too close to the ground. The boy grunted as the dust faded, looking up from behind his arm to see his grass-covered rival standing between him and Mei.
The three first words he heard uttered from his rival after so long warranted an eyeroll from the spiky-topped Hugh. However, he couldn’t help but smile at Mei’s obvious joy as she lassoed her arms around Kyouhei. His arm lowered and he allowed the smile to transform into a smirk. ”Welcome back, man…” Hugh muttered, before turning his gaze to Mei as the lone female of their now-complete trio began speaking.
He allowed his head to tilt downward, eyes lowering to peer over the collar of his jacket as Mei lay on the ground, as though suddenly utterly exhausted. Red eyes followed her as she moved over to his side, slightly behind him like he was some kind of human shield between she and their friend to use against a potentially negative reaction in response to her demands for Kyouhei to explain.
Admittedly, Hugh was curious as well, though he remained silent. The taller sat next to Mei on the ground, glancing at her before finally speaking. ”Let’s hear what Kyouhei has to say first. Ours will take longer so we could eat during that.”

That was the scariest hug he had ever received in his life(and he had been attacked by an Ekans in more than one occasion) with the most passive aggressive greeting that he thought could be ever conceived by a human being. Still, Kyou knew Mei. "Nice to see you too, Mei." He just stood there confused as the hug ended as quickly as it had starter, smiling like an idiot. The young trainer then waved over to Hugh, his smile widening a bit more at the sight of his rival. "It's been a while, bro..."
There was a sigh as he approached a bit, and a bit of a worried expression as he looked up. "You got taller." A lot taller. Kind of frustrating, really, because Kyouhei had barely grown a few inches. But at least Hugh didn't gain a lot of muscle or anything like that to completely obliterate his chances with any female in the one hundred kilometer radius, right? Sheesh, like that'd happen.
His hair was still much, much prettier.
The déx holder giggled a bit at the girl throwing herself to the ground, thinking of how much time it had been. He took a sit on the grass while looking over to Hugh, breathing in deeply to explain his story throughout these years when he noticed something. "You guys have way more to tell? What, you think I've been dozing off or something?" Kyouhei spoke in a serious tone, as if he had been offended, with an expression to match with a raised eyebrow, but anyone who knew him for more than a few days knew it was only a matter of waiting for the punchline. "Because it was that, pretty much. Me and Emba won a few eating competitions, I traveled around a few regions besides Sinnoh, challenged whatever gym leaders I felt like, collected a few badges here and there, that type of thing. Then I spent a while on the forest, using my hard earned trainer money to buy a lifetime stock of marshmallows, but me and Emba ate it all in three days." The boy patted his stomach laughing a bit.
"Then we even entered a contest and Geatta got the first place! Though they did say she was a bit clumsy and it was kind of off season, but gold medal nonetheless. And then after that first year, I pretty much just trained a lot. Nothing really eventful. There was this time when I met a group of people in the wild and-" Nonono bad Kyouhei we all promised you'd not talk about that. "-uh, nothing special, they were just really nice." The trainer rubbed his arm looking sideways, not really wanting to dwell on that. "But well, as I said, challenging gym leaders from all around and some trainers here and there. Nothing me and the team couldn't handle. Emba also grew a lot stronger and he's a lot taller than a lot other Emboars by now! I'm really proud of all of them." Kyouhei played with the grass, realizing he was kind of rambling. But there was too many details to cover! He figured that could be sorted out later, and decided to say it was their turn.
"We'll have plenty of time to talk now, guys! But for now, food. I mean, your turn." But mainly food. Where was the food. Food was what summoned the great Kyouhei here. And friends.

Sometimes Mei could be scary just in her absolute need to be close to people. Othertimes her tackling was apparently terrifying to her friends but either way she was definitely very happy when her best friends were around her, and that meant that where she was she was almost happy enough to cry. Both of her childhood friends were within hugging distance, which, to the brunette, was about the best thing in the world. "I missed you." The words were mumbled under her breath when he replied, and she settled into her comfortable position half-behind Hugh with ease as she watched them interact.
Yes, Hugh was still taller. As it was, her tiny five-foot-three was dwarfed next to the boys - but to her mind, it just meant that she had more chance of getting pignite-back rides from them and being allowed to curl up on laps for a good old hugging.
As it so happened, Mei was glad she was one of the only ones to know exactly how much muscle Hugh had accumulated over time so she didn't have to fight off every female within the hundred kilometre radius. "You did too, Kyou. But you're home so you can stop growing now." As if that was simple and definite, that they would both stop growing now that they were home with her.
Running her fingers idly through her hair with one hand, the other helping her scoot closer as Kyouhei sat down. "It sounds like you, Emba, Geatta and the rest of your team had a really good time while you were travelling." Mei cooed as she crawled over towards the picnic basket and started pulling out the homemade goodies she and her mother had prepared. Sure some of them were a little haphazard looking, but they weren't burnt or ruined, which was always a plus.
"Help yourself. I have sandwiches, pastries and other goodies. Take your pick from the basket." She beamed, crossing her legs as she picked up a plate and put a few choice sandwich quarters on it. "Our story has a little bit more.. problem to it. First of all, we should let you know that Aspertia got... hit. By a really bad storm. We're still making progress in rebuilding so you when you get home, don't be surprised that some buildings are a bit broken." She glanced at Hugh, "Which sort of half leads to what else happened.. cause that was the Knights who attacked our City.. and I guess they're kind of the ones who.. maybekindofattackedmetoo."
Mei's voice had trailed off in the end as she stuffed a piece of sandwich in her mouth. Of course she had to explain herself more than what she wanted to, but she half-hoped Hugh would be able to explain it better. She still couldn't help but feel like she was useless in the first place for having been the one to get captured.

SLUTTERZ as MEI, SHEO AS KYOUHEI
Hugh had nodded to acknowledge the comment on his height, concealing an arrogant smirk behind the raised collar of his jacket. Throughout the years he and Kyouhei had spent together, they had both been relatively the same height. Winding up taller – and undoubtedly built better – than his friend was something the Qwilfish-head counted as a personal victory in their rivalry.
Now that Kyouhei spoke, his question and offended expression gained a snort from Hugh, along with a muttered ”Of course we thought that,” voice filled with light, obvious sarcasm.
He couldn’t help but roll his eyes at the start of Kyouhei’s story. Man. What a glutton… He was impressed Kyouhei had retained his relatively slender form. The only reason Hugh was ever able to eat a large amount of food was during his admittedly huge growth spurt. He figured that if he tried eating that much now, as he currently was, his metabolism wouldn’t keep up.
”Training and contests.” Hugh commented, as if to show he’d been paying attention. He made no verbal note of the evasive sideways glance and arm-rub Kyouhei had displayed. That was weird. No sense bringing it up until it happened more than once.
He glanced at Mei when she spoke, eyes falling to the food placed between the three of them before he moved to take a sandwich and pastry for himself. The red-eyed teen remained impassive as the female took the reins on their conversation. He managed to take a couple of bites of the sandwich before Mei brought up her capture, quickly and in a rushed manner of speaking as though she knew he was still sore about it. His body tensed, back going rigid at the memory of the whole event. Merely a portion of the unspeakable rage he’d felt boiled within him at simply the mention once more of that day. The free hand against his leg curled up in a tight fist, the knuckle he’d broken rescuing her cracking particularly loudly. He winced. It was still bandaged beneath his glove, not quite fully-healed even this much time later.
Perhaps waiting as long as he did before seeking medical attention about it wasn’t a smart course of action, after all.
”…yeah.”
His voice was harsher than it had been only seconds ago. ”The Knights of Arceus attacked Aspertia. I was still on my journey, as well, when they did. I came back and most of the City was in shambles.” Hugh sighed. ”And they made a move to harm people individually for whatever reason –“ he would let Mei explain the bit about Dex Holders, ”- rather than as a whole…going after Mei rather than Aspertia again.”
Not that he was complaining.
The teen swallowed, aggressively biting down on the rest of his sandwich and talking out of the corner of his mouth. ”She’s back and safe and happy and healthy,” he muttered, looking to the side as though annoyed, ”And that’s the only thing that matters.” It was his attempt to push the subject aside.
He rolled his shoulders, sitting a bit straighter. ”As for me, I literally trained every day from dawn to dusk. For three years.” Hugh shrugged, as though it was no big deal. ”I moved up and down the Coronet Mountain range in Sinnoh on foot – both inside and outside the mountains. Started at the base in the South and moved up to the summit, then just headed straight North from there. I caught a fair few pokemon as well…like Odin.”
The trainer gestured to his Tauros grazing a short distance off, who looked up at the sound of his name.
”Tallulah’s doing well, too. She’s wicked fast on land like she is in the water now, and can overwhelm any other Samurott with her agility and power.”
Crimson eyes turned challengingly toward Kyouhei. To Hugh, a battle – just like when they were stopping Team Plasma – was already necessary.
Post by KYOUHEI HANAMURA on Nov 2, 2013 12:40:29 GMT 9.5
Kyouhei scratched the back of his head, smiling widely. He really had missed them, but he kept forgetting to call. Memory was a nasty thing to the boy. Things that weren't in the heat of the moment escaped him sometimes, even if they really did matter to him. Oh well, he could apologize a lot later! A real lot. Real real lot. Before Mei strangled him to death in one of those hugs. "Don't worry Mei, I wouldn't want to grow much more and leave you hanging down there! Kinda difficult to hear you already sometimes, geez." The trainer made a cone around his ear with his hands, as if he had actual difficulty hearing his childhood thread. "You're gonna have to start wearing some high heels or something." His sense of humor hadn't matured a bit, apparently, but that was Kyou as his friends would know him, alright.
The young male sat down, hearing his friend and nodding when she offered food, reaching for a sandwich and taking a bite, not minding speaking with his mouth full right afterwards, answering an earlier comment of hers. "Thaft mfe and thfe tfeam dfid!" The plan to balance his sandwich eating and speaking skills had failed miserably. Abort. Swallowing, Kyouhei allowed himself to chuckle at his own failure.
However, Mei mentioned problems, and his expression soon got a lot different. Just a little worried at first, but as they mentioned Aspertia getting hit, his eyes went kinda cold, staring down at the ground. "Is...my mom safe? Is my Unfezant safe?! I...I haven't heard from them in a while, and..."
His brown glare cracked a bit more, and what had been so far low questions under his breath became a lot louder. "THEY HURT MEI?!" No fucking hell no you didn't harm his childhood friends you didn't harm one of the members OF THE SECOND HEROIC UNOVA TRIO BECAUSE PUNK YOU'RE GOING DOWN.
Kyouhei got up in a jump, angrily munching on his sandwich as a war strategist had just awakened, walking back and forth, glaring down in an expression that mixed anger with thought. "That's very good you're training Hugh, because we're going after them. Hell, let's go right now. Do we have any idea where they are? They're pretty open, so I'm thinking some big ass palace or research facility. Let's go! Let's kick some ass!" That was spoken in record time. People barely had time to react to him standing up in the first place, and the boy closed his fists tightly, even if it kinda crushed what he was eating a bit.
"Good, Tauros, perfect for destroying doors. We don't have time to lose! Let's train! Or something! I...I don't even know..." His voice lowered from intense to sad, and Kyou stopped to breathe for the first time since the beginning of his breakdown, hugging his knees as he fell to the ground. "I'm...sorry guys. I should have been here and I'm stupid for wasting my time when you guys needed help..." The trainer looked down, reaching for the half eaten sandwich he had clenched in his hands, nibbling on it silently. "So...what are you guys planning to do?" His expression almost screamed 'forgive me' in and out itself.
Post by MEI MORIMOTO on Nov 2, 2013 13:06:38 GMT 9.5
"I'll wear heels when one of you gives me the occassion to wear a dress. Until then I'm perfectly happy in my sneakers, thank you very much." As if to prove her point, she wiggled her toes inside of the shoes at him, half-rolling her eyes as she looked up at the sky to avoid the conversation about what had happened with Aspertia and her own capture.
Kyouhei's reaction had been somewhat expected. He and Hugh shared a level of temper when it came to their friends, though they definitely both had reacted in different ways. Blue gaze flicked briefly to the finger that had been broken in Hugh's annoyance, and she was about to comment as the brunette boy leapt to his feet in a ranting, raving tirade on the idea of the Knights.
First she raised a finger in an attempt to interrupt him, feeling awkward with every word launched into the air, then her guilt slid in and she glanced down at the ground with the feeling of horror that she had let herself be captured. It had been an innocent mistake and it had stemmed from the fact that she trusted too easily, but nodded regardless. "Kyou.." She mumbled as she glanced briefly at Hugh and crawled over to his huddled-up crouched self.
She was half hoping the spiky-haired third of the trio would back her up as she reached for Kyouhei's arm and gave him a half smile. "Your family are safe and I'm fine now. We can't just go chasing after them, because that was part of the problem in the first place.. They chose to target me while I was investigating the storms, because I was an easy target, but we chase after them and we all are." She attempted to calm him with a soft pat on the shoulder.
"I'm fine though, see? Almost entirely better now, and Hugh saved me. I know if you'd known something was wrong that you'd have wanted to help too. You don't have to be sorry because you're here now, and that's what matters. We have to keep training so we can be strong enough to do things. Besides, why don't you guys talk about your training some more. That's a much happier topic and doesn't involve bad things. You haven't seen one another in years, I'm sure there are better things to be doing than worrying about something that already happened and ended." It didn't help that Mei felt guilty about letting herself get caught.
Kyouhei would probably think she was silly for being so trusting, and she didn't want to go any further into it. As it was just remembering gave her shivers, and she let her bright blue eyes blink up at him in the pleading manner to 'not run off and fight the baddies for revenge please'. The best look she had for convicing hot-headed male friends. At least, that was what she hoped.

SLUTTERZ as MEI, SHEO AS KYOUHEI
Kyouhei’s outburst came as a bit of a surprise. Hugh’s eyes widened slightly, staring at the rival that had jumped upward with something like annoyance mingled with vague irritation. What did Kyouhei hope to accomplish charging off with about thirty seconds worth of information that he had right now? It was a bit hypocritical for Hugh to wonder something like that, when he’d done the very same plenty of times when the trio had been on their journey, but seriously.
”Calm down,” Hugh grumped to Kyouhei, moments before the teen opposite them sat once more. ”If you go charging off when you know like nothing about these jerks you’re going to get yourself killed. That’s the last thing we need. Or want. Just hear us out and don’t get all hyped over one detail of many.”
Hugh ate part of his pastry as Mei began speaking again, sinking even further behind his raised funnel-collar to hide the light blush that came to his cheeks when she mentioned exactly who her savior had been. Regardless of the red tint to his cheeks, his eyes gained a more serious light as Mei re-directed the conversation toward their training, and the taller teen glared at his rival as though to say ’Do what she wants.’. He knew Kyouhei was more than capable of reading his expression. That visor-wearing dork would get hit upside the head if he didn’t.
”Good food, Mei. Thanks.”
That was his only contribution to the conversation for now. He’d tried to move past a tense topic earlier before Kyouhei exploded about it. Now it was the brunet’s turn to do the same, since he’d officially turned that attempt upside-down.
Post by KYOUHEI HANAMURA on Nov 5, 2013 13:15:57 GMT 9.5
Kyouhei lowered his head, breathing in deeply. "Sorry guys...I got a little desperate, that's all...frustrated I wasn't here. I'm sorry, Mei." He relaxed a bit, going back to his careful nibbling, accepting her change of subject, even if formulating a little plan in his mind. Train harder, and for real this time. No more lazing about.
Kyou put his smile back on slowly, building up more as he actually took time to taste the sandwich. There would be time to get back at them. At least Hugh got Mei back safe.
"Thanks, by the way, Hugh, for taking care of her. You always did that better than me." He chuckled, with the mood obviously lightening up, "Then again, you always did that better because you two were always behind!" Well, actually, Hugh had gotten a few moves ahead of him here and there, but the trainer had managed to outrun both his rivals one or another time during their adventure. Mei, however, got behind quite often. Must be the height difference.
"So, a mountain, you say? Quite...uh, extreme. I mean, there are some nice hotels in Sinnoh, you know! And it's not like you don't have some reward money lying around, even if you never challenged the league." He couldn't grasp why anyone would prefer dirt and hunting over comfort. Kyouhei wasn't anti-nature or anything, just very much pro-convenience. Those weren't some plains or hills, they were full out mountains. "And that makes us both have Kanto native Pokémon! Very interesting if you ask me. We always had a few coincidences here and there in our teams."
Not to mention the ability to guess what the other was thinking pretty well, like when Hugh pretty much begged Kyouhei to bite the bait and change the subject earlier. It was a talent when cooperating with each other, and a fun challenge when battling with with him.
"Well, Emba's stronger than pretty much any other Pokémon I saw so far! I mean, he's already a lot taller than most Emboars, and I saw him grab my Onix's tail and spin him around the other day! It was fun. A bit terrifying as the Onix's trainer, but fun anyway." Kyouhei threw a Pokéball to his side, letting out the eight feet tall Emboar, who proceeded to sit in the ground smiling, but seeming kinda sleepy. Seeing his state, Kyouhei chuckled. "He's still kinda lazy, though."
Post by MEI MORIMOTO on Nov 5, 2013 22:10:51 GMT 9.5
Mei gave Kyouhei a bright smile as he thanked Hugh for taking care of her, then instantly felt a pang of guilt at the idea that by helping her, she was holding the qwilfish haired one of the trio back. With a very noticable pout, she tossed a piece of crust at the recently returned boy and wiggled her way that little bit closer to Hugh. "He's a hero. He doesn't need to have been first to the league because I'm almost certain he could beat you now." Which was true. She had seen the various Pokemon that Hugh had collected in his travels through Sinnoh and more recently.
He was a wonderful trainer and she often felt dwarfed beside him - but in the most proud way possible.
She would also have mentioned the fact that in a fist fight she'd pick Hugh over the boy too, especially after seeing what the training in the mountains had done for him - but considering the fact that the meeting in the blue haired boy's house had been as awkward as it was in the first place, she didn't want to bring it up and make things even more uncomfortable.
"Emba is looking very healthy though, Kyouhei. Odie, Morella and Callypso are all still my primary teammates. I should let them all out to play too.. Oh, really all of them!" Without second thought, she stuffed her hand into her bag and her Samurott, Espeon, Arcanine, Whimsicott, Lucario and Zorua leapt forth and shook out their moments. "Hey guys. Feel free to explore, kay?" She giggled, poking the Zorua's nose as he sniffed somewhat unsurely at Hugh and then Kyouhei, before sitting down in Mei's lap without second thought.
Grinning as she ate another sandwich idly, she offered a corner to the little Pokemon as her others spread out.

SLUTTERZ as MEI, SHEO AS KYOUHEI
The brief nod Hugh gave to Kyouhei stopped abruptly when the other pointed out how often Hugh had lagged behind in their journey together. Although he’d been in the next town or city the trio reached if Team Plasma left some kind of trail, most of the time he made his way through Unova more slowly and carefully than his rival. He couldn’t really complain with everything he’d found along the way.
”Staying in something like a hotel when you’re training your body just as much as your pokémon will make you soft. Caves aren’t half-bad once you get used to ‘em. And there’s sleeping bags. Tallulah makes a pretty good pillow if you avoid getting poked by her armor. Her whiskers kinda tickle too, so if she brushes you in the face with those during the night chances are you’ll wake up sneezing.”
Hugh wiped his mouth free of crumbs from Mei’s pastry. Admittedly it was pretty good. ”Also I prefer to save my money rather than blowing it on a hotel. With the number of trainer’s I’ve challenged I’ve made just about as much as you probably did taking on the League.” A gloved hand rose to scratch his chin before reaching for a pastry, red eyes carefully as his friends released their pokemon. ”But then again I guess I have more saved up than you because food-eating competitions aren’t really cheap. Entry fees and all that. Especially when you’re feeding a pokémon as big as an Emboar.”
Hugh smirked and bit down on a pastry. ”Odin there isn’t the only Kanto pokémon I’ve obtained. Heck, I have pokémon from Hoenn, Johto, and Sinnoh as well.”
The Qwilfish-haired boy looked down at the little Zorua sniffing at the two males of the trio. After it sat in Mei’s lap, he reached forward and lightly scratched behind its ear. Looking around at the pokémon released, Hugh cleared his throat, figuring it wouldn’t kill him to let a couple of his own out as well. He balanced the pastry on his knee, two pokeballs held within one hand, and a third held in his other. The first two pokeballs released two petit, almost identical Eevee. Their large brown eyes looked around at the three before falling to the Zorua, a pokémon more their size.
One Eevee bit down playfully on the other’s ear before nodding to the Zorua, creeping toward it slightly before placing her paws on Mei’s leg. Her brother lagged behind, instead sitting closer to Hugh. Dzvezda wanted to play a bit.
The third pokeball expanded in his grasp and he tossed it straight up, just behind him. Tallulah emerged from her pokeball, letting something close to a roar escape her snout. Hugh flinched a little, covering his ears from the sound. ”Easy girl…” he murmured, leaning over and scratching beneath her chin. ”Go say hi to ‘em.” Hugh gestured to the other starters. ”You haven’t seen them in ages.”
Obliging, the Samurott stepped over to the Emboar, whom she hadn’t seen longest, and affectionately nuzzled his cheek.

"Well Hugh, we do think differently then. I don't battle at the same time and in the same way my Pokémon we do: We fight alongside each other. Someone taught me once that the strength of a Pokémon Trainer isn't here-" Kyouhei flexed his arm as one does to show off muscle, and held it like that for a while. "-but here." He directed his hand to the left side of his chest, where his heart was. It could sound childish and naive, but one could say those are qualities just as much as strength, because they have him bravery and will to persist.
The boy then chuckled. "But Mei and her crumb make a good point, Hugh! We should battle again sometime. I always wondered who would have won in that league match." His brown gaze scanned the ranch around them as he began to eat a pastry. "A shame we can't do it here, though. Would ruin the ranch."
He let out a snicker on the subject of money, although with a nervous expression accompanying it. "Well, I can always make the money back in battle! I haven't lost my edge, you know. And while the mountain is good and all, I believe fighting trainers is where I develop my skills, so I have a steady supply." Though few were really challenging at his stage, at least trainer in the roads and what not.
"Well, you know me. Always the releaser. I can't bring myself to put them into a PC, I have to catch what I train." A characteristic of Kyouhei is that he was almost always seen with at least one of his team out of it's ball. Their nature constantly matches his or was very compatible with it, and there wasn't one Pokémon in his team he didn't have a fond friendship with, to the degree he treated them just like he treated Hugh and Mei.
In fact, as he watched laughing as Tallulah snuzzled Emba's cheek, to which the Emboar replied in the only way it could to seeing an old friend again: laughing and hugging her tight, lifting the quadrupedal Pokémon in the air. But one could tell he was happy. Very happy. Heck, where those tears in his eyes? Well, Kyouhei couldn't blame him, the starters pretty much lived alongside each other. "He really did miss her."
"By the way..." Well, everyone was doing it, so why the hell not. Kyou started letting his team out, one by one: Geatta was already out, flying above them; Vaporeon scurried off near the side of Mei's Samurott, a fellow water type; Scolipede found a nice tree to rest under it's comfortable shade; Arch, his Arcanine, hurried over to the side of Mei's own Arcanine, a female he was interested in; at last, the boy let out the newcomer, the one that had replaced his now incapacitated Unfezant, an Onix.
The trainer kneeled in front of the Pokémon, and the rock snake creature lowered it's head of the trainer's height. "Now, mister, no digging, ok? I'll take you somewhere where you can dig later, but this is private property! So behave, alright?" At first he seemed like a strict father giving the Pokémon a stern talking to, but by the last phrase, he laughed lightheartedly, really wishing for the Onix to have fun. It was quite young, but it had grown quite fond of Kyouhei in it's short time with the trainer.
That being done, the boy sat down again and continued to eat the pastry he had chosen. "Just be careful about Scolipede, Mei. It may try to get all Pokémon food when no one is looking!" Kyou laughed, but it was quite true. It's how he found him after all; as a Venipede, stealing food off people doing picnics in the woods' outskirts. Quite a mischievous Pokémon, but a good friend.

"I need to do more exploring, I have so many Pokemon I want to capture. I definitely want to explore the other regions soon too." Mei mumbled as the Zorua in her lap looked slightly more approvingly at the blue-haired boy after he had been scratched. With a soft yap, he bounced in the girl's lap, and Mei reached down to tickle Dzvezda on the head before she pushed Drake, the clingy Zorua, gently on his side to get him to go and play. With a few cute little bounces, he had leapt at the female Eevee in a playful pounce.
Odie was mildly pleased he had avoided the hug of the Emboar, and flicked his tail in amusment as he sat. He glanced out the corner of his eye at the Vaporeon, but did not move from his comfortable spot. Mei however did not look pleased, in fact, looked slightly hurt. "I don't necessarily train everything I catch, but I do play with them and let them be around the house, Kyou. You don't have to say it like catching lots of Pokemon is a bad thing or that Hugh and I don't love our Pokemon." When it came to her Pokemon, Mei had always been a doting mother-type. Her Espeon was proof of that from the bond they shared as well as the fact that she was, ninety percent of the time, out of her ball and sitting on the brunette in some way.
Morella, sensing her trainer's unease, curled up by her knee and nuzzled her gently. Not only was she uncomfortable with the fact that Kyouhei had made it sound like she did not care about the Pokemon she didn't train, Mei was even further made uncomfortable by the giant bug that was now sitting beneath a tree. "You should tell it not to get all the food, then. You know I don't like bug Pokemon, Kyouhei. It's not nice to tease that way." She shuddered slightly, fingers brushing through the purple fur of the Espeon beside her.
At least she would have her team there if the bug decided to come closer. Private property or not, if Kyouhei encouraged it to touch her, she would battle it. And Callypso was a pretty good aim with her Flamethrower. The Arcanine, however, was entirely uninterested. Her tail flicked out and over to cover her eyes, as if that would shield out any attempts at wooing her. She had, after all, a lot to protect already.

SLUTTERZ as MEI, SHEO as KYOUHEI
”Whoever said anything about me battling too?” Hugh asked, ”I just got a daily workout like they did, be it climbing a mountain too or battling any trainer or wild pokémon that came our way. You seriously need to do more than stick to cities – there’s a ton more Ace Trainers and such off your normal routes.” It was obvious the boy wearing the visor had successfully sparked the old rivalry that existed between he and Hugh, that friendly (but serious) competition between the two of them growing more obvious the longer their conversation carried on.
His grin faded rapidly as Kyouhei commented on capturing pokémon to store in the PC for some time versus training them instantly. Different styles of training… he reminded himself, eyes closing to make his annoyance visible in a way other than a curled lip. Also different ways of budgeting your time between then and now. Not to mention it takes time to form a team that works best together. An eye opened to look at their starters, once again, as Tallulah made a startled bark of a sound upon being grabbed and lifted into the air in a hug. The startled look on her face faded quickly and was replaced by affection. She licked his eyes gently, the salty tears being wiped away by her tongue before she was set down.
The Formidable pokémon wriggled out of the Emboar’s grasp after a moment, stepping over to her species-counterpart and reaching her neck out to nuzzle him…waiting for him to touch noses.
Although his visual attention had shifted, Hugh was all ears for his friends’ conversation. The presence of the Onix made Hugh shudder, though his logic of, ‘It doesn’t spit acid’ calmed the tension that had suddenly built within him.
”Oi…Kyouhei…” Hugh murmured, not looking at the other male. Without warning, he reached over and smacked (rather, considering he’d made a fist, punched) his friend upside the head…very lightly compared to full-power, though still enough to get his point across. ”Don’t tease Mei like that and control your pokémon. You’re its trainer, after all, and even further you know Mei doesn’t like bugs.” As his red eyes turned to her, there was a brief flash of concern before he looked back at Kyouhei.
”Also there’s different styles of training pokémon depending on the person and how they work best as a trainer. Just because Mei and I catch pokémon and may keep them in the PC for some time, there’s reason for it. Idunno about Mei for sure but I don’t rush out to train ‘em as soon as I catch them because I want to get to know the pokémon themselves before I begin training, so that I can decide what the best way to train them is, as well as what pokémon I already have they might work with best. It’s a process of trial and error.” He drew in a breath, having said more in that short spurt than he normally did in any one ‘sitting’ with which he spoke.
”You kinda made it sound like Mei and I catch pokémon that we can’t carry in our party and then let them sit without touching them again.”
The teen sighed, quickly coming up with a way to deflate the situation.
”Also was that ‘wave’ earlier supposed to be some kind of flex?” The Qwilfish-haired teen couldn’t contain the abrupt, short, spurt of laughter escaping him. Now that he had finished the pastry, he could laugh freely without worrying about crumbs flying from his mouth. Crimson eyes rolled as he spoke again, ”Please…” Hugh lifted his own arm – just in time as Mei’s Zorua tackled Dzvezda, sending the pair tumbling into Vladimir, and consequently into the teen’s side – and bent it upward in a ‘stereotypical’ sort of flex. Although covered by his telltale jacket, the tensed bicep made more or less of an outline against the fabric.

"Ow- Ouch!" Kyou rubbed his head at the punch-slap of his rival. "Relax, guys. I meant nothing by it, I'm just...not used to it, y'know? I catch it, I immediately start using it. It's just how I prefer to train 'em and do things." It was, in essence, a completely different training style from the one his friends used. A less smart one, in short: Less strategy and thinking how to fit a Pokémon inside a team and how to train it and more put it to train and battle right away and work things out as they go. It was neither a worse or better method, but a little bit more innefective, at least the in the first few months. Kyouhei's team was less focused on working as a group of individuals that could be massively strong and more in individual strength of each own.
"Sorry if I offended ya." He picked up another pastry. Kyouhei Hanamura never stopped eating. Ever. "And don't worry about Scoll, he won't come near us. Besides, he prefers fruits like watermelons than pastries and this type of stuff." As always, the earlier comment was more for the hell of teasing Mei, because well, that's still fun as it can be. A bit mean, but oh well. You can't always have what you want.
Arch continued to try to woo Mei's Arcanine, hopping around, prancing along the grass and puffing it's chest. It was like watching a strange mix of comedy and tragedy as he wasn't corresponded. Meanwhile, Oreon, Kyou's female Vaporeon, shyly approached the Zorua and Eevees, a bit curious as to what the hell was going on but still not brave enough to make her presence too known.
Scratching his head and smiling nervously in an attempt to ease the mood, the trainer picked up on Hugh's comment, watching him 'properly' flex. Brown eyes blinked in disbelief. "Hey, I'll make no debate about who's the strongest, mountain climber, but I'm still the pretty one." Kyou playfully took off his visor and shook his mess of a hair around. "And don't think I'll forget to test how strong you got, Hugh." Kyouhei lied down, taking some time to breathe heavily the fresh air of the ranch. Felt like home, after all. Noticing the mischief with the Pokémon, he gave a quick chuckle, wondering what his own Pokémon were up to.
Apparently Scoll didn't like Hugh's Tauros very much, considering how he seemed to be hissing at it from a distance. Well, that couldn't be good.

Mei hated to admit that she was quietly pleased by the whack that Hugh had given the third part of their little triangle, and she softened considerably at the fact that poor Kyouhei had now had a physical affirmation of the fact that what he had said was wrong. She nodded along however, and decided to accept the apology without much more to it. Unfortuately Kyouhei often spoke without thinking, and didn't consider the fact that what he said could sometimes be mistaken for cruelty. The fact that he had acknowledged that they too loved their Pokemon was enough for her to let it be.
Odie however, was amused by the Emboar's affections on his like-species friend and his tail flicked somewhat in amusement. As Tallulah approached however, he returned the gentle nuzzle as he saw her nose reach forward. Without second thought he pressed the tip of his own snout against hers in obvious redemancy, a soft croon of amusement enough to alert his trainer too of his happiness.
Spying the two Samurott in such a considerably close manner, Mei felt her cheeks and the tops of her ears heat up. The fact that he spared her a glance after scolding Kyouhei for the umpteenth time forced her to attempt to hide the embarrassment over the simple eskimo-style poke-kiss their starters were sharing, instead offering Hugh a smile and then nodding at Kyouhei. "Good, make sure he stays away. I know you love your Pokemon, and I'm sure he's very good to you, but I worked really hard on the food, and I'd especially hate for it to go to waste if he doesn't even enjoy pastries." The brunette grumbled.
However, at Hugh's flex the next moment, a sharp intake of breath could be heard from the female of the trio. She quickly looked elsewhere, having to quell the thoughts that reminded her exactly how wonderful those arms looked out of that jacket. If only. "He's definitely the strongest."And the prettiest, if you ask me, her mind interjected.
With Kyouhei's hair freed and her own emotions now trying to remind her of that awkward situation, Mei decided quickly to distract herself. And in choosing so, she leapt over onto Kyouhei, burying her hands in his hair. "I don't know about the pretty one, this mop of hair is a bit floppy for my tastes!" She smirked, moving to pin the laying boy down. "You might be prettier in a dress, I dunno. Maybe I should find something more ladylike for you to wear."

SLUTTERZ as MEI, SHEO as KYOUHEI
”Hmph.” Hugh accepted his friend’s apology with a brief huff, electing not to continue the topic. They’d worked as a team enough to practically read the other’s mind in battle – there was almost nothing stopping that same connection from existing in calmer situations (save for the heat of the battle going to each of their heads, of course) so Kyouhei would be able to sense Hugh’s near-silence after his large spurt of words.
Dzvezda and Vladimir looked up from their tousling with Mei’s Zorua when the shadow of the Vaporeon was cast upon them. They squeaked in interest and quickly pulled away from the Zorua, looking back as though to reassure it they would return, before trotting over to the Vaporeon, tails twitching in interest. Maybe one of them would be a Vaporeon one day! The Eevee pair were still relatively young, though, having hatched only a couple of months earlier.
Meanwhile, Tallulah shivered slightly with happiness as her kind gesture was returned from the male Samurott. She moved her snout slightly against his own, their fluffy white whiskers brushing as she pressed her face gently against his, before she picked her head up. She made a small sound, something akin to a quiet bark that mingled strangely with a purr, almost as she shifted position, lying next to him. Her form was slightly smaller than his own, though she mirrored his position for only a heartbeat before lowering her head to rest her chin against the earth, between her splayed forefins.
”’Pretty’?” Hugh scoffed, laughing at his friend for using such a feminine word to describe himself. ”Man, you can be the pretty one –“ The teen cut off briefly when Mei suddenly pounced upon Kyouhei. With a snort of laughter, Hugh pushed himself over to be near his friends. ”Hey, Mei has a good idea there. Maybe she can even braid your hair. Since, y’know, it’s so pretty and all. Maybe she’ll just help add to it.” He chuckled more under his breath at the thought.
Odin looked up from his grazing, the quiet hiss disrupting his peaceful lunch. Eyes narrowed slightly as a snort of air left his nostrils, and the heavy brown mane over his neck was shaken. If the apparent issue the bug had with him was acted upon, he would waste no time putting it in its proper place.
