Platinum was distracted. Her usual focus broken by the fact that she had been once more found by her 'husband'. She had hoped that he would be gone and that her friends would never have to know about what she had done to save her family's fortune. But that was clearly not to be the case, and she could not escape from the contract that bound them. At least, not yet. She could pretend for at least a little while that he held no power over her, that she was still as free as she had felt for a few short months of bliss.
Dark hair blew around her face as she stared without seeing onto the waters of the lake. The shore was scattered with people, Lake Valor always awash with liveliness in the summer. When people were enjoying what little sunshine they had.
It was because of the guardian that resided there that the young heiress had chosen this particular lake as her spot to think. Give her the willpower that Pearl had, to give her the courage to say that she needed to get away from Fernando, that she needed the strength to escape him. Quickly she let out a breath and leant against the trunk of a tree. It was very unlady-like of her, to lean, but she couldn't help it.
Even if this was Pearl's lake, so to speak, surprisingly, it was Diamond who was around. He'd just gone to visit Dr. Footstep, dropping by for some friendly talk they haven't had a chance to for a while considering Dia had ventured into another region, before the man declared he had to go out for more footprint collection. Diamond would have offered to go, but then Lax detected a food store in the vicinity (and this detection had a rather large range) when they went out of his house, and Dia decided to part ways with the eccentric doctor while he dashed after his Pokemon. Considering how fast his 'dash' was, it took quite a while, but pretty soon, Lax and him were enjoying their snacks at the Valor Lakefront. He inhaled the fresh Sinnoh summer air; it was good to be back in his own home region. He felt like walking around more for some reminiscing, and an idea just came to mind.
"Hey, Lax, let's go to Lake Valor!" The Pokemon nodded whilst stuffing its face full of food. Dia smiled.
Trainer and Pokemon walked at a sedate pace towards the lake, intent on enjoying the day to the fullest. After passing a bit through the forest, the lake soon came into their view in all it's sparkling clear beauty. Some people were around, enjoying a picnic or a refreshing dip in the lake.
It was a really good thing that people managed to restore Lake Valor to its beautiful glory after it was bombed by Team Galactic years ago.
Ah.
Whenever the name of the team came to mind, Dia couldn't help but reminisce and get lost in the memories of those times. Those were some rough and scary times, but he was glad that they made it through. He certainly didn't want Sinnoh to be in danger like that, especially not his friends and --- huh?
Dia looked down to where Lax was tugging at the end of his shirt again. "What is it, Lax? You found another ice cream stand?" Blue eyes followed to where the Munchlax was gesturing excitedly. It was a person, leaning against a tree.
However, it wasn't 'just' a person.
A smile broke out on his face when he recognized who it was.

Most people didn't expect to see people they knew here there and everywhere. Platinum herself had thought she would be well and truly alone when it came to people she knew. But then, perhaps she had hoped somewhere in her heart that one of the people she knew and loved might be there, waiting to talk to her. At least in her subconscious maybe she had hoped that she would find some semblance of closure from the lake, that it would lend her the courage even if she couldn't speak to one of her friends about it.
Continuing to ponder on her situation, Platinum blinked as an all-too familiar voice came into her range of hearing and spoke her name. Similarly the device kept on her person activated, the Pokedex beeping merrily as it recognised one of it's counterparts. Metal-sheened eyes flicked up and raked over the form of her friend, but the 'lady' maintained her air and stature as she pushed herself away from the trunk of the tree and let the smallest of smiles onto her lips. It was somewhat forced but it was a greeting none-the-less.
"Diamond, it is a pleasure and a surprise to see you here. I did not believe you or Pearl would have enough time to spare in order to visit a place such as this." She tilted her head slightly to the side, an incline just to show her puzzlement. "But it is a pleasant surprise to meet you." Though her face gave the small smile, her words were still somewhat laboured as she tried to seem normal.
Though, Dia did have the advantage with his ties to emotion. The dark-haired heiress flattened her skirt and stood tall, attempting to maintain some semblance of normality so that Diamond would not see through her facade.
It was only one tiny tug closer by his Munchlax, but as soon as he'd stepped within the likely range, his Pokedex started beeping in response to Platinum's own Pokedex. He smiled and hurried closer as fast as he could. When he reached the lady, he took the device out of his pocket and waved it in a sort of greeting before turning the detection off. The beeping stopped, and a momentary silence filled the air as Dia smiled, before Platinum gave her greetings.
"It's good to see you too, Miss Platinum." Lax gave a little wave before swallowing a huge chunk of its snack.
But the smile on Dia's face faded a bit now that he had a closer look at his fellow Sinnoh dex holder. He knew that being a lady, Platinum was very prim and proper, and her movements elegant and smooth. But his ever-observant eyes puzzled over the unusually small forced smile, the slight shaking in her hands and the tired undertone of her voice. Platinum looked... frazzled? And in the years he'd known her, she was rarely like so. And... she seemed a little too detached and formal in her greeting. After the trio became true friends, she was very warm and affectionate to Pearl and him. But now, she was acting a bit like she was when they first met her.
But... He shouldn't quickly judge by what he first saw, right? That was always what he did. There must be a reason behind all of this. Knowing the female dex holder though, she was very strong and firm, and he wouldn't know of the truth easily.
"Well... I was actually planning to surprise you about my return in Sandgem Town, but they said you were out. So I decided to explore a bit more. I didn't think you'd be here." He chuckled. "But... I would ask you the same question, Miss Platinum. You had the time to spare to be here as well. Were you looking to take a break here from running your company?"

It was quite a relief, really, seeing Diamond. Maybe it was a sign from above that the person who could sense her emotions was around. But then, she still didn't want him to see her suffer. Somewhat awkwardly - especially so considering that she was trying her hardest to maintain her most ladylike appearance - she flattened her hair and nodded at him. "Yes, it is so rare we get to see people you care about in today.. It has been so much of a struggle. With Senior Emerald passing, I am glad to know you are all right."
She looked him over, almost checking in a similar way that he really was as unharmed as she hoped he was. At least if there was nothing else to be thankful for in her life, her friends were safe and unharmed. They weren't being killed the way that others were. Only Emerald - and as sad as that had been - had fallen prey to the killer Knights.
"Taking a break, I suppose that it a good way to describe it. I am here to rest and to try and get away from every thing. There has been too much happening in my life, I suppose." She smiled at him, nodding slowly, "I did not truly have the time to spare, though I wish I did. It was merely that I could no longer take the time not to rest."
Tracing the outside of her pokedex with her fingers, she smiled halfheartedly at him. "You were hoping to surprise me though, Diamond? That is very sweet." And she really thought so - it meant that he had cared about her enough to want to see her. It sunk at her heart, reminding her that she ought to tell him about the many things that had happened since they had last spoken properly.
It was one thing to send the occasional message, it was another to truly explain. Platinum just didn't know how to do so.
The news of the senior Pokedex holder's passing had been really shocking and sad. In fact, it was what prompted Dia to go home as soon as possible from his travels. He had to make sure Pearl and Platinum were safe, and he would definitely protect them, a task much easier if he was in the same region. In the first place though, he didn't want to travel with only his Pokemon, but Platinum was busy with the Berlitz business and Pearl had to go spend some time with his dad. He had really wanted to travel with both of them though, in memory of those days when they were 12 years old, but he didn't want to force it when the two of them had things to do. Now, he was here, and he had confirmation that they were both alive. Platinum, however, while alive, seemed... unwell. Sort of.
Dia chuckled a bit, a light embarrassed blush coloring his cheeks. "I was, but I guess since I met you here, the surprise is kind of ruined, isn't it?"
When he saw her half-hearted smile though, he saddened a bit. Maybe he should ask, because it was worrying him now. "Um... Miss Platinum, you're looking a bit unwell. Have you been eating properly?"
Post by PLATINUM BERLITZ-SILPH on Jun 10, 2013 21:53:07 GMT 9.5
Platinum would have liked to have been able to travel the world with her friends. She would have liked if somewhat briefly to not be the heiress to a family business and to the research her mother was doing. But her aspirations were high, there was nothing she could do to stop her own need to succeed, and unfortunately it meant socialising was left in the back burner. Her eyes lifted to look over Diamond and she nodded at him, "Perhaps the surprise in Sandgem town, but it is still a lovely surprise to see you here, so you must not be too hard on yourself."
The flush in her friend's cheeks gave Platinum pause, wondering what might have been wrong. It was not cold, so she merely passed it off. Hopefully he would not be unwell. "Unwell?" Apparently he had been thinking the same thing as she but in reverse and Platinum briefly cursed herself for not making a stronger and more hiding facade.
"I eat as I should, Diamond. You do not have to worry about that, I promise." She assured, trying to make certain that he believed her by ushering him with her words. "It is likely that I have been working late, that is all you would see." She tiredly smiled - still awkwardly - at her friend and shrugged. "Or perhaps a little stressed, there are some things that are not easy."
She wanted to tell him about Fernando. But how did you explain a marriage of convenience to someone who would surely choose to marry for love? Especially when the convenience itself was not truly convenient.
Diamond didn't look too convinced by Platinum's answer because his highly tuned emotion senses were still detecting the stress in her voice and actions. But well, confronting it out in the open like this would only make her feel worse, so for now, all he could do... was what he always did. He looked around for a bit, trying to think of an idea for this before it occurred to him and he turned back to face her.
He gave her one of his best, biggest, comforting smiles, and said, "If you're stressed, then it's only right to relax... with some good food!" Lax, having finished eating the snack in its hands, happily agreed. More food was always good. "And since we're here at Lake Valor..." He paused for dramatic effect. "Let's have a picnic!" Lax cheered.
Having been travelling, Dia's huge bag already contained the things needed for such an occasion. Of course, the food was there.

At Diamond's sudden decision, there was a truly genuine laugh from the heiress. Though it was something she always had known, Diamond's love of food was something she always forgot when they were together. She raised a delicate hand to her mouth to conceal the giggle that had passed through her throat and nodded her agreement. "I would love to join you for a picnic. I only hope that I am as good a company as Lax is," She smiled serenely down at the Munchlax, then looked back up at Diamond.
"Pearl might not approve of us eating a picnic at his lake, so we should keep it a secret until we know he does not mind." She replied, glad that the subject of her waning mental and emotional health had disappeared. She was sure that Diamond would know she was kidding herself if she thought he didn't know something was wrong but she wanted to pretend at least for a little while that everything was okay.
"There is a fine spot not far from here, I could use the sunlight to de-stress, I think. Does that sound acceptable to you, Dia?" She forgot how nice it was to have friendly company. Company that didn't wrap their hands around your throat to see you squirm.
"You're definitely good and fun company, Miss Platinum. Right, Lax?" Dia turned to his Pokemon, who agreed with a fervent nod of its head. Dia laughed at the mention of his best friend. "Hm, I'm sure he wouldn't mind. But if you say so, Miss, then let's keep it secret. Or if we ever have another picnic, let's go at Lake Verity or Lake Acuity. Although it would be really cold at Lake Acuity." He chuckled again.
Adjusting his hold on his bag and then his cap, he said, "Sure, anywhere Miss Platinum wants to go to is fine with me!" He may have appeared cheerful from the prospect of food, but truthfully, now, he was really happy because Platinum called him by his nickname again, unlike when they first greeted each other earlier. It meant that she had completely relaxed, not forcing herself into being formal and polite, something that she absolutely DID NOT need to do to him. They were friends, and she was absolutely free to call him by his nickname. He did not mention this to her though, and allowed her to lead the way to a relatively large clearing. As she mentioned, the toasty afternoon sunlight gave the area a pleasant summer warmth. The lake was not too far from it, and there were a couple of trees nearby for shade for those who wanted it. Platinum wasn't exaggerating when she called it a 'fine spot.'
"All right~" Dia cheered, waving his arms and psyching himself up to arrange for the picnic. He put down his bag on the grass and opened it. He took out a folded-up picnic blanket, and gestured for Lax to move, which it did, as if it knew what to do and where to go without Dia saying anything specific. He unfurled it with a flourish, and the cloth floated down slowly. Lax grabbed one side of the cloth, and helped in settling the cloth down on the grass. Trainer and Pokemon then turned towards their companion. "Have a seat, Miss Platinum!"
He waited until the female Dex holder was seated properly on the picnic blanket, before he moved his bag closer to the middle of the blanket and began taking out its contents. Several sandwiches, cheese pastries, a box of cookies, and a container filled with different berries were soon presented with a flourish. Two jugs of drinks, one with water and the other with what seemed like Oran Berry juice. When he was done with 'fixing the dinner table', his next move was to reach for his Pokeballs.
The forms of Wig, Don and Tung soon joined Lax in surrounding and drooling over the feast in front of their eyes. Dia laughed. "Hehe, there's enough for everyone!"
He smiled at Platinum before saying in a sing-song, "Let's eat~"
Post by PLATINUM BERLITZ-SILPH on Jun 11, 2013 21:24:49 GMT 9.5
"I do not think I classify as fun," She replied, choosing to lead the way. She waited patiently for Diamond to set up the picnic and had to smile. He was definitely a light in her life, even if there was nothing but darkness in her near future. She could not help it when she smiled a little and sat down around the blanket, tucking her knees elegantly up underneath herself. She watched him with kind eyes, softening her posture just enough to seem more comfortable.
Her fingers flattened out a crease in the blanket as she reached for a glass of water, taking a sip as her other hand pressed the release button on each of her Pokeballs in turn. they all joined Diamond's team and began to sit to enjoy the sunshine - Cherrim and Lopunny most of all. "You do come prepared, Diamond, I am thankful that you would allow me to join you for a meal. It has been a long time since I have had food as good as yours and I have certainly missed your cooking."
Taking a berry, she popped it between her lips before nodding. "Days like this make me hope for a better tomorrow. There are so many things I would like to change right now."
Diamond handed out food to the Pokemon, and helped the quadruped ones eat by giving them separate bowls or feeding them personally. The Pokemon lounged out in the sun, basking and enjoying the meal and the fresh air. The others had gone for a little play-fight in the grass. Dia turned back to face Platinum at her declaration of gratitude. He chuckled, a small bush rising unbidden on his cheeks in receiving Platinum's rare praises. "It's no problem, Miss Platinum. I'm glad you still like my cooking. And..." He paused to offer a cookie to Wig, who gulped it gratefully from his palm. "... I'm glad I could make you feel relaxed and happy like this." He smiled radiantly before taking a Pecha Berry and handing it over to Platinum's Pachirisu, much to the electric squirrel's delight.
He gulped down a bite of his sandwich before he asked, "Really? Can I ask what would be those things that Miss Platinum wants to change?"
Post by PLATINUM BERLITZ-SILPH on Jun 11, 2013 22:30:14 GMT 9.5
"Your ability to prepare meals has only increased and improved over time, Dia. Perhaps you have considering becoming a chef? That would be something I could see for you." Platinum praised, fingers tracing the edge of a cookie as if it was a precious gemstone rather than a delectable treat. She lifted it to her lips and nibbled at it gently, smiling as she heard the chittering of her Pachirisu.
Diamond really did have a way of bringing out the best in people's emotions. But could she be honest with him if it meant he may hate her? Would he even be able to understand how hard it had been for her to make the decision to marry for money and status? She breathed out as she lowered the cookie into her lap, folding her hands delicately around it and looking up to meet his eyes.
"I have done something that I believe you might think horrible, Diamond. I do not want you to think poorly of me for my decisions, and it worries me to tell you exactly what it is that I have done." And indeed it did, for it meant that she would have to tell him about Fernando. Though she doubted she would ever be able to explain to Diamond the nature of her 'husband' and his actions against her.
"That sounds nice, Miss Platinum... but I also like travelling and having an adventure with my Pokemon. Maybe when I'm older and I get tired of travelling, perhaps I could try. But for now, I'm content and happy with what I'm doing." He took a gulp of water. "But thank you for the offer, anyway. That's very kind of you."
He temporarily busied himself refilling the bowls of food for Don and Moo, as Platinum had gone quiet. But when she spoke up again and he heard the stressed undertone in her voice again, he looked back at her, and got a bit of surprise at her nervous and slightly fearful demeanour, and the words she had just spoken. He himself had gone quiet as he stared at her whilst pondering her words, his blue eyes quietly assessing her emotions.
Silence passed by between the two, slightly tense and mysterious. He had no idea of what Platinum had done or was doing, honestly. When he'd been travelling, there was only the occasional call of 'how are you doing?' 'I'm fine' between them, and the conversations had been rather short. He figured she was busy with her company anyway. But looking at her now... Could something have transpired that he didn't know about? This wasn't like the proud and confident Platinum that he knew. Hmmm...
After what seemed like an eternity, he finally spoke in a quiet but firm voice. "I could never think poorly of you, Miss Platinum." A strong breeze blew by, prompting him to adjust his scarf. "From our travels, I could definitely say that you are very confident... strong... and very amazing." He reached over to give Pachirisu a pat on the head. "But... I also know that, no matter how great you are... you're only human, Miss Platinum." He gave her a small smile. "It's normal for us to make mistakes... So it's okay for you to make mistakes. Because I do, too. Thinking you're horrible because of you made a mistake or a wrong decision is... wrong." Dia chuckled a bit, even at 19, he was still not good at properly putting in words his emotional speeches.
After he recovered from his embarrassed chuckle, he continued sincerely, "What I'm trying to say is... No matter what... For me, Miss Platinum will always be an admirable person. That would never change. Even if you make a mistake, that wouldn't change."
Post by PLATINUM BERLITZ-SILPH on Jun 11, 2013 23:36:30 GMT 9.5
"You make me feel much better, Dia." Platinum mumbled softly, cradling the cookie as if it was something precious rather than just a piece of food. She was almost scared that if she broke her demeanor and allowed herself to begin to crush it that it would be a similar outcome for their friendship. Shakily she looked up at her friend and steeled her resolve. She had to tell him about what had transpired if not for the fact that it was affecting her and he was noticing but for the fact that he was her friend - one of her best - and she had not told him a rather important fact about her life.
Breathing out softly, she let metallic-sheened eyes lock onto her friend and nodded slowly, "I now go by the name Platinum Berlitz-Silph as I have married the heir to the Silph company. When Johto fell our business was in dire need of help and that was his idea to renew it. I did not know what a mistake I was making at the time. In the world of business it is not unusual for a merger to occur based on marriage but he was not as good-willed as I had initially believed." Platinum dropped her gaze back to the basket, closing her eyes in shame as she hung her head.
"He is not a good husband to me. He disappeared for a few months, giving me enough opportunity to repair my family business but he has returned for me. On a technicality I am still his property."
Diamond had gone quiet and blue in shock from what he just heard, the sandwich in his hand falling with a soft thump on the picnic blanket. The Pokemon seemed to have sensed the sudden tension in the air and looked up from their positions toward the direction of their trainers, worry clearly written on their faces.
For a long moment, Dia remained silent, sporting a fearful and confused expression. He didn't think he was gone from Sinnoh that long... but something like THAT happened? This was certainly unexpected.
And...
"But that's not right!" He said passionately. "Miss Platinum, you're not a property. You're a person!" He looked at her worriedly. What should he say? What should he do? He didn't want to make her feel worse. But he'd never come across a situation like this before.
Post by PLATINUM BERLITZ-SILPH on Jun 13, 2013 11:53:02 GMT 9.5
Platinum blinked - the moment before his response seemd to last forever to her and she felt her heart sinking as she wondered whether or not he would truly understand what she had done and whether he would decide that she was too much work as a friend, knowing that she had married for such a terrible reason.
Golden eyes sunk to her hands as his response rang in her ears. He was certain she was not property but she felt exactly like she was. "Perhaps to you I am a person, Dia, but to my husband I am not. He is not, in my opinion, a good person. Though lately he has begun to give me reason to believe that I may be the bad one. He has mentioned Arceus and how I would not allow him to take control of it, but that I ought to have for he would not have killed anyone. I just cannot believe that he would do good with it any mor than the Knights have."
She sighed and looked up at him sadly, wishing for just a moment that she had made a different decision. That she was just Platinum Berlitz again, that she had never had to worry about saving her family business.
"Perhaps I should have just allowed him to continue on his journey... What if Senior Emerald's death truly was my fault?"
Honestly, this entire revelation hurt Dia more than he showed. More than the thought of Platinum keeping this big an issue from Pearl and him, it hurt him because... because...
No... He mentally shook the thoughts away, willing that pang of hurt in his heart to fade. Aside from the fact that it had already been done, the issue was still not over, and it was currently hurting Platinum still. For now, all he could do was...
All he could do was to be the friend that he always was, the reliable, comforting one who knew about the matters of the heart and who could always sympathize.
"I... don't believe that Miss Platinum is at fault," he said quietly.
He waited till she looked directly at him before he continued, "I may not know of your husband personally, and all I have to go on are your descriptions of him... But I believe that there was no guarantee that Senior Emerald wouldn't have died if Miss Platinum allowed her husband to search for Arceus. After all... The future is not something we can tell, right?"
He gave a sad smile. "I also think that... People who say 'what if' are people who wish to change a bad event under the belief that they did something wrong to make such a thing happen. And that if only they didn't do what they did, the future would be better. But I don't think that's the case at all. As I said, the future is not something we can tell. For example... Even if Miss Platinum allowed her husband to obtain Arceus, there was no guarantee that the Knights of Arceus wouldn't have forcibly taken it from him, right? And he would have gotten hurt if it happened like that. If that was what happened, wouldn't you have felt much more guilty now?"
The male Dex holder picked up the sandwich he dropped before and put it aside in another container as he let his words sink into his companion's heart and mind. When she seemed to have taken in what he said, he spoke up again, "So... Let me say it again: Please don't blame yourself for Senior Emerald's death. Oh, and that... You are not a bad person at all, Miss Platinum." His smile spoke volumes of his intention to cheer her up. "And if you yourself still don't believe in those, then at least tell yourself that I, Diamond, your friend, believe in them."
Post by PLATINUM BERLITZ-SILPH on Jun 13, 2013 19:18:37 GMT 9.5
Thinking about it, Platinum could not name someone who was a better friend to her than Diamond had ever been. She had been most shamed when he had learned of her gambling addiction and had been most drawn to his warmth - it was so different from what she was used to in her family. Oftentimes, though it was 'uncouth', she wanted to curl up in his arms and hug him until her arms hurt - or she fell asleep. Either would be so comfortable and perfect but she just couldn't.
He probably didn't want her to anyways.
No matter how much more perceptive of emotions Diamond was, Platinum could still feel like something wasn't right with him. She had no idea of the feelings he had for her and so she sensed the unease as something more akin to disgust at her. All she wanted to do was melt away to know that he thought any ill of her. Somewhere in her gut she knew that there was more to her own sadness over his opinion than mere concern for their friendship, but she passed it off once more as unnecessary.
Platinum handed the crumbling cookie to her Lopunny, who had begun to hover nearby sensing her trainer's unhapiness. "I do not believe it was truly my fault.. he was killed in the eruption, assisting in saving people. Arceus was captured after that point, so I do nt believe that my allowing Fernando to have taken control of it would have saved him.. I just do not want to believe that he would do better with it. There are things about my husband that are not... good." The phrase sounded informal on her lips, but it was the nicest way she could say it.
"I am scared that he being in any sort of power would be just as horrifying on the world... Oh, Diamond." For a brief moment her fingers reached outward to brush over his hand. It was such a miniscule gesture for what people would consider intimate. But it was so much for Platinum.
"Thank you.." Her words began to drop away as her fingers slid back to her own lap. "Thank you for believing in me. You are truly special to me, Dia. I do not know what I would do without you."
Diamond tilted his head, sensing there was more to Platinum's husband than what she was saying. There was a slight shiver in her body when she spoke of him, and when she was saying he was not a good person at all... He knew that the lady was rather bad at lying from their travels together, so while he was the type of person to reserve judgment on someone until he'd met them personally, he could at least consider this Fernando person as not a good person, from the way Platinum was truthfully describing him so.
But he could also see that Platinum has had too much of emotionally painful confrontations for the day, so he decided to drop the matter for now.
"Your thanks mean a lot, Miss Platinum. I'm just glad I could help you. You are special to me, just like Pearl. I'll always do my best to cheer you up." He would never forget the first time he did so during Platinum's first Super Contest.
Dia smiled, and then went to calm down and reassure the Pokemon, who were worried about the tense and sad atmosphere of his earlier talk with Platinum. He offered some juice to those who were thirsty, and eventually everyone felt relaxed again.

Glad the subject was dropped, she moved her hands to wrap them around one another. He had barely done anything since, however, and she retreated back into herself. So recently it had felt like she was watching Pearl and Diamond perform their comedy act. But it was years past now and they were grown. As much as she wanted Dia and Pearl to be as affectionate toward her and take care of her the way they had, perhaps she would have to back away from them.
They would likely be better off regardless.
Slowly Platinum climbed to her feet, letting out a soft sigh as she moved toward the water once more. Her eyes raked over the waters as she wrapped her arms around herself. The sun was warming her skin but her heart felt cool and sad. She didn't know what to say anymore, knowing that by keeping Pearl and Dia out of the loop when it came to her marriage, she had been wrong.
But he had told her that was her only option.
"I wanted to tell you, Dia. It was part of the agreement when Fernando agreed to marry me. My family's business was in grave danger and I sought to help them. It was not by choice that I did not tell you. He did not want anyone to know, it was a quiet ceremony. Even my parents were unable to attend."
Platinum stroked gently at a portion of her hair, before glancing back at Diamond. "Please forgive me for keeping this from you."
She only hoped they might. Or else her greatest fear had come to pass.
Dia was silent as he listened carefully to Platinum's words. Then he pondered quietly some more, before he gave her a warm, small smile. "That's okay, Miss Platinum. You don't have to say sorry. I think... You had your reasons for keeping it a secret. And I understand and respect that. After all, I was once guilty of the same, you know?" He chuckled fondly.
At Platinum's questioning look, he clarified with a slightly embarrassed smile. "Don't you remember, when Pearl, you and I began our journey together? I think I never told you... Although I did tell Pearl... But well, I guess I can tell you now." He ruffled his hair. "Actually, when I saw you, I knew you weren't a tour guide like Pearl thought. But I didn't say anything. Because... the misunderstanding was why we were travelling together. And it was fun, and I didn't want it to end." His smile saddened a bit. "You were... a bit angry and sad when you found out we weren't really your bodyguards." He stood up and went over to his Torterra, who was now sleeping, full and content after eating. "At that time, I was afraid you weren't going to forgive us, or that we would never see you again. But then..." He brightened up, one hand patting affectionately Wig's head. "You forgave us, and decided you'd still be friends with us. And that made me happy."
He turned his head back to her and gave a reassuring smile. "I think this case now is similar, don't you think, Miss Platinum?"

Platinum took a moment to examine the evidence he had given her - to weigh up what he had said and decide on whether it was true. She had forgiven them in the past and that meant that they could forgive her for keeping such a heinous secret. In a way the heiress wished it would still be hidden but for now she would have to live with the knowledge that Diamond was aware of her husband. He could reserve judgement until he met him - and Platinum almost hoped he would never have to - and she nodded.
"I think that is a very similar situations, you are right. The misunderstanding did bring us together. I only can hope that this works out as well as that did." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and cast her gaze out over the water once more, sighing softly. She had many regrets. She was right in her knowledge that Emerald's death had not been her fault.
Hands dropped to hang on to the metal railing as she watched the ripples in the water from those playing on the sure. She almost leant - almost - but kept her poise in the way only a lady could.
Seeing as everyone had finished eating and were now either sleeping out of being full or simply resting whilst enjoying the picturesque lake view, Dia began the task of cleaning up the picnic. Leftovers were placed in respective containers and tucked away back in his bag, scraps were gathered in a trash bag, but the cloth was left spread out since some of the Pokemon were resting there.
"I'm sure it will all work out," Dia said reassuringly as he approached her from where she stood by the railings lining the lake. He heard her sigh as he went beside her to lean on the railings, looking over the water's calm ripples, occasionally disturbed by the swimming Magikarp under the water. He'd been quietly enjoying the sight as Platinum appeared to have gone silent in thought again, but then he heard her murmur. He barely missed what she said as his head turned to look at her, but she was still looking over Lake Valor, meaning her words were spoken in idle thought.
Dia took a moment to ponder on his own, turning his gaze from the lake and into the thick-forested area on the other side of the lake. This entire situation... He didn't have the full and clear picture yet, so he couldn't exactly tell what she should do. What then...
"I think you should just do your best, going onward determinedly, like you always do."

Platinum had been so lost in thought that she hard barely noticed her friend come up and stand beside her. In truth she had thought him much further away than he was - and as she turned her head to listen to him as he spoke she realised that he was much nearer than anticipated. The slightest flush peppered her cheeks and she turned back towards the water almost instantly, finding the patterns cooling on her face as they relaxed her. She shuffled a little towards him, enough that their arms rested against one another as she half-nodded then shook her head.
"There are some things I would do my best in. Continuing to be friends with Pearl and yourself, and training my Pokemon. I do not believe that my marriage is something for me to try so hard in. It has not worked out well thus far. Being verbally and physically punished is not the way a marriage of today should function." Platinum let her eyes drop and she folded her hands over one another, letting her eyelids flutter shut and the breeze blow over her face.
"I was previously seeking a way out of my marriage. When my husband disappeared I ceased my search and focused on the company but now he has returned and once more I am a belonging, a simple toy. Perhaps to do my best in this situation is to figure out how I may best escape him." Her words were so formal, so poised, and yet there was a shakiness to them that belied her true emotion when it came to Fernando.
Fear that this was a contract that would not break under pressure.
For a while, Diamond busied himself with looking over the lake, discreetly eyeing the contact between their arms. He wasn't sure if it was just an accidental brushing, but he couldn't deny it did make his cheeks heat up a bit. He knew that Platinum was the type to be careful about her actions so something small like this... It didn't feel insignificant at all.
He quietly listened to her convictions about doing her best as a trainer and as his and Pearl's companion. It made him glad that she hadn't at least changed in that area, for he felt it was a big part of what made Platinum the amazing person she was. But when her voice shook, and her body shivered, that much he could feel from their contact, it was his turn to gently lay his hand on her to still her quivers.
"This issue with your husband... may be something I have no right to interfere with," Dia began. "But... I believe that Miss Platinum can get through this challenge. And although Pearl and I can't exactly help you, you know you can always rely on us, right?"

As Diamond predicted, it was never uncalculated for Platinum to make physical contact. She was always focused on every motion she made and the gentle brush was one that was both supposed to show her friend how much she appreciated his advice along with how calm he made her. He certainly was the one in control of the trio's emotions, and it was nice to have some semblance of moment to cling to with him. His comforting hand upon her slowly brought her back to the place where she could be calm.
Golden eyes turned towards him with some sadness, but more thankfulness. "Thank you. For now what I need is to know that I will have you and you will support me. I think in order to separate myself from this mistake I have made, it will take a lot of mental courage and research. I do not want anyone to end up hurt or uncomfortable with my actions, so it will take a lot of work." She breathed out, then offered him a warm smile.
"It really was a nice surprise to meet you here.. But now I feel like we have only spoken of my woes. Are you all right, Dia? What has been happening in your life?"
Satisfied that Platinum was definitely looking better than when he first saw her today, Diamond let himself relax more, glad that he could do his part in helping her. For now, the issue of her husband was for Platinum to resolve by herself, and all he could do was wait and give his support when needed. He returned her smile two-fold and contented himself with enjoying the cool lake breeze and the warm sunlight, like the Pokemon were. In fact, he would have almost fallen asleep like them had Platinum not spoken up again.
It took him a moment to reply, and the fact that he'd almost fallen asleep while supposed made him feel a little embarrassed. "Oh...! I'm fine, Miss Platinum. I've been travelling and exploring around with my Pokemon. We just came from the Unova region." His eyes lit up at the memory of his adventure there. "Ah, I actually met this guy who was a Pokedex holder like us. And I got to try the famous Casteliacones, which really tasted as amazing as they said they were. And it's been a really fun experience."

Platinum was much more relaxed than she had started out. The simple contact had been proof of her newfound relaxation. Diamond and Pearl had always had a calming and comforting effect on her - well at least since she had learned how to relax around them. Calmly she turned her gaze to watch her friend happily, soft wind blowing her hair around onto her face. She had to say that it was relaxing. It was nice to feel like she was somehere she belonged again, and the only time she felt that way was when she was around her dearest friends. Unfortunately it was so rare nowadays that she was often just wishing rather than getting that opportunity.
The sleepiness that she was seeing in her friend was not unusual. It was someting she was used to and found somewhat endearing about her friend. He was never the one to be awake and focused when he was getting to relax. More often he was likely to have a little bit of a snooze and that in itself was cute. "Another Pokedex Holder, you say? They took on the role after us, did they not? I believe they are our juniors in that sense.. Was it Junior Black, perhaps? Or perhaps Kyouhei or Hugh?" Clearly Platinum spent too much time researching but never meeting her companion holders. That was almost always the way. "I have only heard of the Casteliacone franchise, I believe it is a very well known business and it is very popular amongst tourists. Perhaps if we ever go back to Unova together we can have some more?"
Considering the way she had been raised, Platinum had very simple hopes and dreams. She always wanted to be near her friends and she wanted to spend time with them enjoying the simple pleasures. Certainly like anyone else she had more determined goals - like following in her parents' footsteps and completing her Pokedex, but all of those things were secondary to spending time with those she cared about.
Diamond's eyes sparkled. "His name was Black. And he really reminded me of Pearl! He could probably rival Pearl's loud voice." He chuckled. "Have you met the Pokedex Holders of Unova, Miss Platinum?" The teen asked, when she mentioned other names. He knew she was a researcher at heart, and would know of names, but meeting them in person was another thing.
He held onto his hat as a particularly strong breeze blew by. "Yes, the Casteliacones were really good. And I sure would love it if Miss Platinum can go with me next time." After a few moments, his words sunk in, and a light blush sprung to his cheeks. His words sounded like... "Um... Oh, and Pearl, too, of course!"
