Steven has managed to escape the clutches of social expectations for the first time that night. The young man sits down at his designated table with a huff and leans his left shoulder against the back of his chair automatically. He glances at the grand clock positioned at the south entrance of the hall he and nearly one hundred other people are milling about in. Only seven-thirty... He manages to restrain the complaint he feels in his mind to nothing more than a visible grimace on his face. He needs to act the way he's expected to. He needs to paint Devon Corp. in a better light than how his father already has. His steel-blue eyes glance a short ways off when he hears the laugh of the man he’d just thought of.

...the head of research at Mossdeep? Steven wonders, staring at the man his father is conversing with. The other three suits in that circle remain unknown and unguessed to the young heir, seeing as he doesn't get decent enough views of their faces to identify them. He shakes his head and leans forward, putting his elbows on his knees. Nobody would judge him for sitting alone like this for about...ten minutes. Then he knows he has to get back to the festives. All the way here in Kanto, it isn’t like he exactly knows where to go to get away. And it's Viridian City, he wouldn’t be able to easily get away from this event – he’d risk being pounced upon by the press.

Even though he has nothing to his name other than being Tsuwabuki’s heir, young Steven is almost as popular as the Devon Corp. president himself at events like this.

I just wish this would end... He spins the silver rings on the fingers of both hands around boredly. His father had told Steven up front he wouldn’t need to go, but Steven had come to shed the company in a better light.

There is little he refuses if he knows it will better the public image of Devon, even if it means his boredom. It's what is expected of him, after all.

blossom of snow [[ platinum age 6 // feel the cuteness ]] She had been allowed to leave the table for once. She had never been allowed to leave the table before, and that meant that today was special. She had been a good girl all night, had said her pleases and her thank yous as any good girl should, and her mamma had praised her, saying she could ride her Ponyta the next morning. Secretly, Platinum was brimming with excitement knowing that she could do the things she was only allowed once in a while. Flattening her bright pink (and very princess, thankyou) dress, the six year old hopped down from her chair and pushed it in. She was allowed to explore. She was allowed to mingle. Not many six year olds were allowed to do that at big corporate events, but the Berlitz family had always had exceptions made for them. Her eyes were wide as she stared around at the many faces, making certain to remember not to linger too long. ("It is bad manners to stare, Platinum.") She practically skipped along to the piano music in the background, almost floating with the slow strokes of the keys. Platinum decided that she wanted to make a friend somewhere at this party. After all, that would make the fact she was allowed to leave the table even more special, and she did love special things. Her eyes flicked around the room and all she could see where scary men in scary suits. Except then there was one who wasn't so scary. He was standing by himself and fiddling with his hands. She walked up to him, innocent and confused. "Do your hands hurt, sir? My pappa has sore hands sometimes, so he uses a special cream... do you need a special cream?" She asked, eyes locked on his even from between the height difference. She didn't lack any confidence, merely focused on him from where she stood. "Sometimes if you stretch them out like this-" She demonstrated, certain that it was pain that was bothering him because who could be bored with all of these people? "It helps too, pappa says so!" She bounced up on the balls of her feet, trying hard to resist the urge to pry his hands open to show him. But forcefulness was not ladylike, and she had to remember that.

Bored now, Steven pushes himself up from the chair. He glances around once before walking to a pillar designed to appear as though it supports the roof, though he knows is it's purely for design. The suited young man leans against it, in the shadow it casts from the light behind it - effectively hiding from the greater commotion on the other side of it. The young heir is staring at the slowly rotating rings on his four fingers. There is little outside of the field of his vision that he can see, focusing just on the spinning metal. Given the lack of concentration he is paying to his surroundings at that moment, it's no surprise that suddenly seeing a child in front of him makes him blink rapidly to prevent himself from showing he'd practically zoned out.

"What...?" he asks, looking at his hands. He's thoroughly confused by what she's asking. He glances a couple of times between the girl and his hands before it clicked. "Oh..!" He smiles gently at her, shaking his head. Focus, Steven, you're a bit slow tonight. He turns his hands upward to look at his palms before stretching them slightly as she had demonstrated, as not to appear like he completely ignored her advice. "My hand's aren't sore, no..." he tells her, dropping the ringed appendages to where they sit naturally by his sides.

"I was just rather distracted." He laughs quietly, tilting his head forward slightly to look more directly at her rather than down his nose. "Thank you for the advice though, I'll definitely keep it in mind if my hands ever get sore when I'm working."

Alright, so a child isn't the first expectation that comes to mind when he considers ideal company for an event like this, but it would save him from getting roped into financial talks with corporate heads. Who knew how this would go? You can always learn something from a child.

"Ah, forgive my rudeness.." Steven murmurs, a slightly sheepish smile pulling at his expression. He offers his right hand to her, "You can call me Steven." he informs her, "What's your name?"

Silently, he was trying to figure that out. There were very few children at these events. Ever, really...

blossom of snow Platinum was pleased with herself as Steven followed through the motions she had designated. She had clearly stated what would help and he had done as she asked. With a pleased girlish grin, she rocked between the heel and balls of her feet, swishing her pretty little dress as she went. Oh yes, this was good, he was good at listening too. Dark hair fell in curls over her face as she tilted her head to the side. They weren't sore? "If they aren't sore-" little Platinum had not yet learned that contractions in her sentences were not ladylike, and thus, still used them, "then I don't know how to fix them, I'm sorry." Her face fell a little, and she halted her rocking in order to consider the fact that she had not helped as much as she thought she had. Well then, she'd have to think of other methods in order to help him out. BUt that might take some time. She looked up at him with a slight frown, then nodded. Yes, Steven. Taking his hand in the smallest shake, she nodded. That was good. Taking one foot behind the other the way she'd practiced so many times, she picked up her skirt on either side and sank into the most adorable ever a sweet little curtsey, eyes closed as she did so before standing up. "It's nice to meet you, Sir. I am Platinum Berlitz, at your service." Her manners now upkept, the six year old stared wide-eyed at the older man, tilting her head to the side. Only important people were at these things, so he must be important! She thought about it for a few moments, flattening her dress again as she straightened herself. She tried to remember the different groups that her mother and father placed people in. Heirs and Heiresses, people who were "important" and were born to money, people who had earned it with hard work. He said he was distracted, which meant - she thought for a moment, it was a big word! - that he wasn't very interested in what people were saying. "My Mamma and Pappa own many of the hotels around the regions, and my Mamma is a Researcher with the team in Sinnoh, she and Professor Rowan work out lots of problems together." She nodded, before swinging on her feet again. Internally the young girl was attempting desperately to figure out what this man did without being rude and asking it bluntly. But how could she do that? Mamma would be unhappy if she forgot her manners, after all. And then she might never be allowed to leave the table again. That would be awful.

Steven can’t help but feel his lips curl slightly in a smile when she curtsied. Clearly, she has some notable lineage to be groomed to present herself in such a manner at a young age like that. Moments later, she introduced herself properly to follow the curtsy she’d given him. Ah, Berlitz. He nods. The man instantly understands why someone as young as herself is here – just about the same reason he’s been going to these things since before he was even ten. Social expectations, children being good pieces to play on the board of business to show that there was in fact an heir to something (at that time, anyway) and prove it would take more than a happy helping of money to out-buy a business from a bloodline, etcetera.

After she finished her introduction, explaining just what her parents did, he decids to take some action in conversation. If his father saw him simply standing silently he would never hear the end of it. Talking to Platinum, he figures, will be rewarding however possible. He tucks one arm just over his abdomen and the other in the same position against his back, bowing slightly to her as he should have done for a formal introduction. ”I’m afraid it is I who will be at your service tonight, young Platinum.” he addresses her like a knight to a princess. ”I, Steven Stone, heir to Devon Corporation of Hoenn, will be your personal escort for the night.”

He smiles some before looking back up to her from his bowed position. ”That is, until you cast me away or are content on your own.” A smile passes across his lips, showing the younger girl the gentler side of himself.

blossom of snow Platinum's oddly coloured eyes flickered in amusement as her companion bowed low and she tilted her head. Obviously the man was raised on etiquette the same was she was, to know how to bow so formally. Her young mind flicked over the formalities, remembering the instructions she'd been over as he introduce herself. As most children - particularly little girls - did, she giggled softly and pulled hte creases out of her skirt as she stood up straight, accepting his bow by reaching forward to pat him on the top of the head. "I would really like that, Mister Stone, you look like a lot more fun than most people." She grinned, and despite her manners had a slight air of cheekiness. After all, eight year olds couldn't fight some of their natural instincts to be naughty and at least if she had an important person like Steven Stone to show her around the party, her parents couldn't say she had made a spectacle of herself. At least, not in a bad way. So, with the introduction made, Platinum now knew that Steven's father was the head of the Devon Corporation, which meant he was very important indeed. She flicked her dark hair off her shoulders, "You'll hurt your back if you stay like that, Mister," She ushered, trying to make him stand up. "I wo--" she paused, realising her contraction and remembering her mother trying to encourage her to sound out her words correctly, "I will not cast you away, I promise, I am looking forward to spending time with someone like you!" She giggled, giving him an admiring look. He, was an heir like herself. That meant that he was still young enough to have fun and not talk about business and politics with a child who merely wanted to explore. "I think I saw a bush full of Roselia back there, do you think they would actually put live Pokemon on display at something like this, Mister Steven sir?" She blinked, wondering if that might actually be the case as she decided what adventure to lead her new friend on. "Maybe we should investigate!"

He can't help but feel relieved when she giggles in response to him. At least he's done something right. He hasn't had the opportunity in his life to interact with many younger than him, and this is a rare occassion. I won't let her down. He promises himself, determined to be a proper host tonight for the young Berlitz.

Steven chuckles quietly, feeling a bit less awkward with her compliment. His steel blue eyes stay connected with hers as a sign of respect until she pats him on the head, taking him by surprise. He glances up when her small hand lands upon his irritatingly silver hair, and he looks down at her questioningly before she begins to speak. He chuckles again lightly under his breath and stands when she gestures.

The young man stands straighter, keeping his eyes on her and he feels his cheeks flush slightly with the admiration not exactly hidden in her eyes. "Perhaps they were, in fact, a bush full of live pokemon." He allows himself to smile again at her, "You have sharp eyes to have noticed that - I actually failed to."

He stretches one arm out, giving it a sharp shake to re-adjust his shirt and suit jacket before bending the arm before himself, lowering it next to her and turning slightly sidways so she can take hold of his arm as though he's a proper escort. "Let's go, Miss Berlitz." he tells her, ready to walk after she leads. "I'm actually quite curious myself, now that you mention it."

After she begins moving, he speaks again, knowing whereabouts the mentioned bush is - potted in marble next to the elaborately sculpted fountain as a welcoming peice in the grand entry hall. "Also, you may feel free to call me simply 'Steven' - less of a mouthful." He chuckles some, "Would you prefer Miss Berlitz, or may I call you Platinum?"

He expects she'll question him curiously while they walk, and he'll likely do the same in return. Then again, he expects all children are curious. Perhaps she's different from others in more ways than simply status.

blossom of snow Platinum was pleased that Steven agreed with her analysis of the Roselia, and she fidgeted on the spot for a few moments. He was interesting and not quite as scary as some of the other men. Sure his hair looked like that of her Grandfather but she thought it looked rather dashing. Like a star or a diamond! Maybe his hair was actually made of diamonds! His name was Steven Stone after all. She rocked back and forth on her toes for a few moments as he flushed lightly, and she bounced up and down in excitement. "So you think I might be right? What if they send a Poison Sting at someone? Roselia use that attack, don't they? Cause they are poison types.." Platinum attempted to think on the books she and her mother had read together about Pokemon and their types. People wouldn't deal well with poisoning the same way Pokemon would, Antidotes wouldn't have quite the same effect. "I might be wrong too though, so we should probably check." She breathed out, wriggling her toes in her fancy shoes. "Mamma told me that you have to keep your eyes open all the time if you want to do research and I do want to be like her, I want to be able to help my Pappa with his company and my Mamma with her research, so I need to be able to do both!" She smiled, taking his arm and walking along beside him. It was quite odd for someone so short to be walking beside a man of his size"Platinum is fine, Steven." She giggled as she tested out his name softly. "Steven is a wonderful name. It has a lovely 'ee' sound in it. I like those sounds, I always wondered what my name would sound like with an 'ee' sound in it.. But then I like my name. It's individual. Platinum. Not many people have that name." She shrugged her shoulders as she lead him back towards the potplant that she believed to be a Roselia. Though rather than asking him a bunch of things, she began to hum with every step, using the beats of her feet to keep in time. "Music makes walking so much more enjoyable, that's what my Mamma says. Classical music is the most beautiful, too." She grinned, not really giving him much room for argument. After all, she was right.

Steven laughs quietly as he listens to Platinum, the young girl taking a small shpeel about their names and amusing him a fair bit, though he keeps it well-disguised under the same small smile he's gained to the majority of their encounter. "Your name is quite unique," he tells her softly, "...the precious metal bestowed as a name to such a beautiful little girl. There's no question that it matches well." He glances at the two rings on the hand he has balled in a fist next to his abdomen, keeping the arm she's holding level. A precious metal, indeed...the rings, he's sure, had not been an inexpensive gift.

He glances down at her when she begins to hum, a light of amusement touching his eyes, coupled with surprise that she already knows the song. Then again, you shouldn't be surprised. he reminds himself. "It does make things more enjoyable...Classical most of all." He agrees with her easily, finding the genre particularly calming to listen to. "Perhaps that's why people dance to it so easily."

He leads her around the corner of the line of pillars separating the side breezeways from the main hall before stepping back across the unseen threshhold to what could be considered the "life" of the event. The fountain is less than nine meters away now. From here, based on the coloration of the flowers, Steven can tell that they are, in fact, Roselia. However... She wants to be a researcher, huh? he muses, glancing down at her, Best let her determine it on her own.

"As far as the risk of a possible Poison Sting goes," he begins, "It is a possibility. However, Roselia are generally peaceful pokemon." He thinks of the ones blossoming happily on Devon Corp.'s rooftop garden. "They can be a bit shy, but so long as they don't feel threatened by you they normally act very calm, and sometimes even try to play with you." He glances down at her, "Don't worry, if one looks as though it's upset in some way, I'll protect you."

It would be better for him to be fighting a Poison Sting off, anyway - she was still quite young.

blossom of snow Platinum was a young girl, she couldn't help but feel enthralled with the world around her and Steven was certainly helping her be enthralled with him. Paying her compliments - (he called her precious, only Pappa called her that!!) along with a smile and a laugh or two, those were very important things to a little girl who was learning about the world. "Pappa said it's one of the most expensive mentals, rarer than gold and silver, and very lovely when worn." She spoke up to him, tilting her head to the side. "Do you own anything made of Platinum, Steven?" She followed beside him without second thought as she looked up now and then, examining the looks of amusement and enjoyment on his face. He seemed a little more likely to smile than her own Pappa, who though smiley, preferred to keep a business front when in public. He didn't much like to spoil her when other people were around. "That has to be it too, people can't dance the beautiful old dances if they're too busy with the crazy music they have around nowadays, the waltzes and other steps just wouldn't fall as easily into line!" She giggled. Before today she hadn't been allowed to explore, but she had enjoyed watching the groups of people dancing at the fancy dinner balls, the ladies in their gowns were always her favourite part. She longed to join them someday, though knew most people wouldn't ask an eight year old to dance. "I hope I get to dance someday," She mused aloud finally, stepping forward towards the fountain where she had thought she had caught sight of the Pokemon in the first place. Dark hair bounced behind her as her steps grew more eager and she moved ever nearer to the planted Pokemon. Her golden-silver eyes locked on the strange plants and she finally unlooped her arm from his to move forward, "I would never threaten a Pokemon, and I know not to prod at ones who have Poison attacks," she said matter-of-factly as she lowered her eyes to the level of the pot. A smile of innocence and joy - one that only a child could muster in these kinds of event - spread across her lips as she noticed the face of the tiny pokemon amongst the bushes. "Look Steven!" She whispered excitedly, daring not to raise her voice so as not to upset it, "They definitely are Roselia! How wonderful!" She giggled lightly, "Do you really think they would enjoy playing? I have always wanted to see a Roselia use Petal Dance in a contest, it's quite a beautiful move," Platinum mumbled, resting her hands on her knees delicately as she looked over the petal. "I don't think they would want to attack you either though, Steven, you are too nice!" She giggled, glancing back at him. "Have you ever played with Roselia before?"

Steven moves his head a fraction of an inch in a nod when she asks her question, though he decides to wait on verbally answering it, instead letting Platinum soak in the clear enjoyment of herself for the time being. ”Crazy is the word I would use to describe today’s music, too,” Steven murmurs, rolling his eyes at what he considers the unrefined taste of most of the people (particularly younger ones) today. The music they listened to always seemed so busy, unlike in Classical music where you could easily lose yourself in the melody while thinking. ”And I’m sure you’ll get to dance very soon.” he tells her with a smile, ”In fact, maybe you’ll even dance tonight – my father told me there would be some songs later that were written for dances rather than entertainment like the ones playing now.” He glances at her when he feels her arm slide out of its grip on him and he stands back a couple of feet, placing his hands in his pockets as he watches.

He only approaches when he hears her whisper, and he bends over slightly – hands still in his pockets – to observe the pokemon up close like the young girl he’d become an escort for. ”They may very well enjoy playing.” he comments, looking at the couple of Roselia looking out at them from within the bush. Others are turned away, but some of the tiny Grass-types had stayed facing the pair. ”The ones on the rooftop garden we have in Hoenn are almost constantly dancing around in the sunlight. When I was younger, I always enjoyed watching them so much I never stopped them to see if they wanted wanted to play.” He blinks once before sliding his hands out of his pockets, placing both palms-up next to the bush. Two of the Roselia looked down before looking at him, ”It’s alright,” he tells them, ”I’m not going to hurt you.”

Hesitantly the two pokemon came out of the bush, rustling the rest of the plant they slipped through before stepping delicately upon his hands. Steven slowly bends his knees to get out of the awkward, bent-over position and instead half-sit more at Platinum’s level. ”They’re very sweet pokemon…” he comments, ”And these two were willing to join us tonight.” He lowers his hands to the marble rim of the fountain, letting the Roselia experience a gentle mist of water coming from the fountain just on the other side – it appeared to liven them up. He glances at Platinum again, considering the comment she made about seeing a Petal Dance. He glances at the pokemon again before deciding to try something.

”I’m no Grass-type expert, but these two may be experienced enough to pull off a Petal Dance, or at least a tiny one.” Truly he has no idea if they do know it, though one did look older than the other. ”Petal Dance?” he asks, relieved as both the Roselia lighten up a little and begin moving together, almost in time with the music. ”Like these two,” he speaks to Platinum now, turning to bring his steel-blue eyes to hers, ”…I’m sure that if you ask anybody, they’d be more than happy to dance with you.” He smiles a bit, nodding at the Roselia, ”Besides, it’s hard to say no to something that makes both parties happy.”

The two tiny pokemon twirl around each other faster, moving their arms up and down in an elaborate display and their roses seem to grow deeper in each color. ”You also asked earlier if I have anything made of Platinum.” Steven balls up one hand in a fist and holds it in front of her, about chest-level to the younger girl, ”The four rings I wear are pure Platinum,” he answers finally, ”…they were a gift from my father.”

Steven falls silent and blinks with surprise as a flurry of pink petals that burst from the four roses of the pokemon. Some landed in the water, others landed in the bush and on the marble rim of the fountain, while the rest showered down on the two heirs like rain. The two Roselia appear to laugh happily with their success, and Steven, despite being covered in pink petals, can’t help but laugh a little. ”Well. After seeing that, I have to say I think Petal Dance is quite a nice display. You were right - that was quite beautiful.”

blossom of snow Platinum's laugh was clear and crisp as she listened to him speak, thuogh she shuffled back a few steps the closer he moved to the Roselia, desperately attempting not to frighten or startle them by giving them too many faces, too close, at once. She blinked a few times happily, nodding her head, "I doubt I would really mind if I did not get to dance, Steven" Plat smiled warmly, nodding her head, "Because even if I don't participate I'm learning things and being able to pick up on the steps so that in a few years I would be able to dance with people and understand the motions." Her lips turned upwards in another bright smile and she nodded twice, knowing for certain that even if she was left on the sidelines, she would still enjoy herself. After all, she was an eight year old girl dressed up in her very best at one of the fanciest parties around, how could she not have fun? Her feet shuffled a few times where she stood, nervously rocking on the spot as if her movements might disturb the Roselia that had slowly climbed up onto the hand of her companion. He was obviously a very appealing person to have two Pokemon that were utter strangers - and not even of his specialism, if he was to have one - greet him so readily. The fact that the Roselia were beautiful grass-types with serene natures probably helped a fair amount too. "It is my pleasure little Roselias, I am Platinum, thank you for joining us today," she smiled, a soft giggle spilling once more as they relished in the spray of the fountain. With beads of water on their petals they looked more beautiful than ever. It was quite the sight to see. "I hope the people who bring them inside allow them out into the sun now and then, it would be awful if they weren't given the right amount of nutrition and the things they need to survive every day!" She pondered. Slowly, and almost as hesitantly as the Roselia themselves, Platinum crept a step or two closer so that she could look closer at the rose Pokemon, her eyes widening in delight as she began to focus on their faces. "You're both very welcome as our guests at the party, little Roselia, you make it prettier just by passing through, I think your roses are more decorative than most lights!" She giggled sofly, shaking her head and watching as they began to move in time with the music. "Wow!" Platinum exclaimed, clapping her hands together as petals floated around she and her new friend. They sat on her head and on her nose, and she felt them rest on her shoulders as she lifted a hand and catch a few falling more, giggling sofly. "Beautiful, just as wonderful as I expected!" She enthused, stepping closer and holding out her hand in greeting to the pokemon, stroking one of the Roselia softly. "You said you're mot a grass type expert Steven, does that mean that you're an expert in another type? I have yet to decide if when I go on my journey I want to specialise, at the moment I only have my Ponyta who I ride everywhere, and the other family pokemon," Plat smiled as she asked, interested to know more about this person who had offered to escort her the way most grown ups didn't bother to do. "Do you really think someone would dance me if I asked, would you? When the music that's playing is proper for a dance? Just one, I mean, you probably have lots of nice ladies who would like to dance with you just waiting for the opportunity, but maybe one dance you would share with me in honour of our new friendship?" Her eyes were alight the way only a child's could really be, hoping desperately that he would agree. If he thought it would make people happy, maybe he wouldn't mind dancing with a little girl. "Wow, pure platinum? They must be very expensive.. They're quite beautiful and rare, that's so wonderful!" She giggled, finally brushing off all the petals that had attached themselves to her person. She pulled a few out of her hair, staring around at the now scattered floor. "I hope that I get to see more Petal Dances in my future, I want to attend a proper contest some time. I think you two would win, if you ever entered," she praised the little Pokemon, flattening her skirt and nodding. She hoped they had a trainer somewhere, or an owner, who would see their potentials for beautiful presentations. "Are you a trainer or a coordinator, Steven?" She pried, interested to know more and thinking it was quite the good segway between them.

Steven blinks with satisfaction as Platinum claps to applaud the pokemon as the petals stopped falling from their rose buds at the ends of their hands. She's happy. That's all he'd aimed for, and his guess of the pokemon's ages were luckily correct. The Roselia she'd stroked seemed to giggle slightly at the contact, a light, happy sound escaping its lips. It nuzzles against her fingers as its dance partner prodded it lightly with its rose hands toward the bush, as though to admonish its friend for soaking up attention.

The young man bows his head slightly and runs his fingers through his silver hair lightly, raking any petals that had fallen on him gently into his palm before making them fall back to the ground. He glances at Platinum out of the corners of his eyes as she speaks, questioning him at rapid-fire pace.

He lets his gaze fall to the ground below him where the last of the petals from his head had fallen before brushing the few pink-red petals from his broad shoulders onto the ground, and adjusting the tie around his neck before looking back at her, slightly wide-eyed and clearly surprised by her request to dance.

Of course his natural reaction is to agree happily, though he's still caught off-guard by the fact that of all people, she asked him. He laughs quietly, allowing his mouth to slip into a softer smile with a gaze to match. "I would be honored to accompany you on the dance floor, Miss Platinum." he tells her, slowly picking himself up before standing at his full height, offering his hand to her rather than arm so it's less awkward for her. "I'm fairly certain I'd enjoy a dance with you more than any others that may have lined up."

He nods to acknowledge her further comment on the material of his rings before giving her a more reassuring smile, "I'm sure a Petal Dance at a contest will be just as lovely. These two did wonderfully."

The tiny Roselia nod before curtsying to both Steven and Platinum, before re-entering their bush. They appeared to glow as Platinum's kind words sank in before covered by the leaves of the bush surrounding them. There's no doubt in Steven's mind that the pokemon enjoyed themselves just as much as Platinum had enjoyed their small performance.

He waits until she takes his hand before speaking again, slowly guiding her around the exterior of the dance floor while he waits for the cue of the orchestra to signify the start of the songs meant for dance.

"I'm sure whatever you do with pokemon, you'll do quite well at it." he nods some, as though to affirm those words in his mind more than just from speaking, "I, myself though, am a trainer. And, rather than collecting as many pokemon as possible like some trainers, I decided long ago to dedicate my time to a single type - like a Gym Leader would. I specialize in Steel-type pokemon, and hope to one day be named a Master of such in the eyes of the Pokemon League." He silently reminds himself that there are still some time between now and when he'll challenge the Hoenn Elite Four and Wallace to claim the Champion title as his own. "I still have work to do, though, before that can happen."

He glances down at her, "It should only be a couple more years."

blossom of snow Platinum looked absolutely pleased with life as she stood there and watched the Roselia disappear back to where it came from. One was a little unhappy that it hadn't been given the same level of attention, but she was too euphoric to really mind. The next time, she thought, that she was here, she was going to show attention to each of the Roselia. She would investigate and find out which of the berries of the region that the little Pokemon liked best of all and was going to bring them a feast of berries and other wonderful treats that pokemon like those grass types liked. And then she was going to be pleased. Maybe she'd even bring them a pokeblock or two! She giggled softly as Steven shook off the petals that had lodged themselves in his hair, amused that someone who looked so definitely male was covered in flowerpetals. It was humorous at the very least, as he ran his hand through his hair and they fluttered down to the ground where they settled with the hundreds of others that she had seen. Her eyes lit up brightly, shining in the metallic hues that they were so known for, as he agreed to dance with her. He really was her knight of the day. She wasn't sure that he would truly enjoy her company more than the other ladies who might want his attention, but she was pleased none-the-less that he would make the effort to tend to a little girl's wants and needs. "Thank you so much, Steven! I promise I'll do my best so that you don't get embarrassed!' She flushed in happiness, giving him a quick curtsey as proof that she did know mostly how to be a lady and not just a little girl. "You're really kind to agree to that for me, I don't think many others would want to waste their time.. You're very sweet, Mister Steven." Platinum giggled softly as she swished her skirt around with her hands, realising only too late that what she was doing was "improper" and that her mother wouldn't like her fiddlings. She forced herself to stand mostly still, her only motion a slight rocking on the balls and heels of her feet. "Thank you for meeting is, little Roselia," She finally nodded in goodbye to the Pokemon, stepping away to follow Steven as he guided her. Her young face flushed pink as he took her hand, preparing her for the dancing that they would soon be joining in on. Her mind locked on the fact that yes, they would definitely be dancing, and she instead decided to think about their conversation until the time when the floor was ready for people to join them on. "You really think I would be able to do well? I want to be known for doing great things, not just for being my parents' daughter, though it's nice to be recognised for that too," She mumbled, pondering the situation briefly. Platinum listened in wonder as he spoke, and she looked up at him, "Steel types? I've read some information about them.. They're supposed to be very durable, and very strong.. Do you own a--" She fumbled for the name of the Pokemon in her mind, unsure that she was correct as she babbled, Meta… gross? Is that right?" She had no idea whether she was right or wrong on the name, and she looked down to mask her embarrassment at the possibility that she might have got it wrong. She recalled that they were strong and had the ability to float, which gave them great advantages, but she couldn't be sure of much. "The Pokemon league is something great to aspire to.. I have never really considered entering myself. Everyone in my family makes a journey up Mount Coronet though, to collect a stone we can fashion into a piece of jewellery for ourselves. I'm thinking of making a brooch." She smiled, "I hope all your dreams come true though, Steven! I'd like to read about your adventures as a Master of Steel type pokemon! It wuold be very exciting to know what you're doing! I can tell people that I know you!" The young girl giggled, fiddling absently with a strand of her hair. "Not that I think most of them would believe me, your family are very well known because of all the wonderful things that Devon Corp do!" Platinum let out a small sigh, trying to think. "My father runs lots of hotels around the regions, so that's nice.. It means we always have somewhere to stay.. But I guess I'll learn more about business when I get to study under him in a few years." She smiled, letting a soft laught spread over her lips.

I'm sure anybody would think of it as an honor to dance with you, young Platinum... Steven had thought in response to the little girl's gushing thanks, though his physical response was simply a smile. If they insisted on calling it wasted time, then it would be time well-wasted. In the present, he nods to her, though not looking down and instead keeping his gaze at eye-level for himself as he scans the crowd. He's actually scanning the mass of event attendees for sight of his father, hoping the older man won't pull him away from the promise he's made to the Berlitz heir for the sake of impressing some financial bigwigs into funding more of Devon Corp.'s projects with his son's appearance and unintentional charisma.

"I do," he answers her, finally looking back down after deciding the coast appears to be clear enough that he can go a few minutes without looking around like some paranoid test subject. "...If you have a desire like this, then you have the ability to chase after it." He realizes he's a bit behind the timing curve for answer, so he swiftly continues on. "Steel-types are quite strong. They can take many hits and follow-up with powerful attacks - more powerful than most people would expect of pokemon that move as slowly as they do."

Steven smiles some when she mentions Metagross, hesitating slightly as though the proper name for the pokemon escapes her. "That's correct, yes, and I do happen to have a Metagross - two, in fact. They're the pokemon I use most frequently. One of them was even the first pokemon I received as a gift from my father." He brushes the two small pokeballs in the pocket his free hand sits in with the tips of his fingers. They're all he brought with them for safety's sake, not to mention the fact that he couldn't go attending a formal event with pokeballs sticking off of his belt. That would be just plain improper.

The young man lends her his ear while she continues to speak, the motions of the crowd on the dance floor calling his gaze away from Platinum's temporarily. The orchestra situated at the back of the main floor appears to be shifting, and butler-dressed men spill out amongst the crowd, nonchalontly clearing some of the buffet tables off of what was quickly becoming the dance floor.

Right...

He turns his steel-blue gaze back to Platinum, directing their path toward the center of the dance floor just like the others around them seem to be doing. "Travelling to Mount Coronet seems like something that would be a great thing to do as a milestone in your life..." he states, instantly finding himself in a momentary fantasy with the idea of journeying extensively throughout that great landmark in Sinnoh. "...and a brooch would look lovely on you, no matter the stone you pick." He mentally kicks himself to remind the nerd buried not-so-deeply inside him not to instantly leap upon a tangent he could take and fly instantly over her head, babbling on like a pleased child about stones of any sort. "If you get it cut just right, it will be even more flattering on you than it would be otherwise!"

After a moment of silence, Steven turns a bit abruptly to face her once he's found himself in what he's determined to be the center of the dance floor, directly beneath one of the large, crystal, chandeliers that hung to light up the hall. The young man releases her hand for a moment, adjusting the red tie around his neck and rolling his shoulders once to loosen his suit some before lowering both of his hands to Platinum, a genuine smile on his face.

"I'm sure you'll hear about it when I become a Master of Steel Types." He chuckles softly, "Perhaps I could even write you before I take my final steps and battles toward gaining that title, to tell you to look for my name in the papers - if you're not too busy studying under your father, that is." Truly, his real goal would reach an inter-regional level of news. If he did, in fact, manage to become the Champion.

"But for now," Steven says, almost on-cue with the strings that sound in the back of the hall, signifying the beginning of what would be the first dance of the night. "...I think we should both enjoy the night, and this dance. Or however many you wish to have." He closes his eyes momentarily and his smile softens, some, before he looks at her once more, "Now, if I may, Miss Platinum Berlitz..."

blossom of snow Platinum hardly had time to believe that her own company was worth anything. She was too caught up in trying to please people - particularly her parents - to think that she was actually decent enough to hold anyone's interest. She had been trying hard because she was so young, so different to most of the attendees at these glorious events, but she wanted to make herself welcome, never realising that somewhere along the way she managed to fit in at least a little. The fact that she'd managed at all to make friends with Steven was a feat she didn't realise, but she was glad he was spending his time with her. It made her happy, something clear on her face - full of childlike glee as he lead her across the floor "Right, Steel types have great defense and attack skills.. But they've got a weakness against Fire, don't they?" She tried to think, "Unless they have a secondary type, I suppose.." She looked puzzled for a moment, trying to remember the strengths and weaknesses of Pokemon. She would definitely have to study more when she was home. Platinum was mentally listing off a variety of types of books she might like to possess, and smiled when he praised her for her correct guess of names. Her embarrassment was short lived, it seemed, for she had not misnamed the Pokemon as she thought she may have. "That's wonderful! Two Pokemon who are so very important to you! I hope I have a team that each get frequent use." She mumbled, her eyes shining as she considered her journey - to be made in only a few years time. As they moved across the floor, Platinum couldn’t help but release a soft giggle of excitement - the childlike incredulousness causing her to release the semi-adult state she had adopted. His compliments - and slight nerding out over the stone selections and the correct cut - made her smile and nod. He clearly knew the correct manner in which you should cut stones and collect them. "That would be great… I really do hope that I make the right decision when I do. There are lots of stones I really appreciate. Diamonds, Pearls, all sorts of stones!" She grinned, shaking her head. Platinum was swept up in the moment as she thought about their new kindled friendship, giving him a warm smile and nodding along quietly. "I would really, really like that," She encouraged, desperately wanting to be around when he was going for a Championship. "Maybe I could even attend the battles.. I haven't ever seen a real fight like that, and I'm sure it would be amazing! Please do write, even if you're just adventuring! I'll keep a collection of letters so I can know where you're at.. That would be knowing someone very important." She grinned. Flushing with joy, she took his hand and courtseyed again, glad of the strings' sounds that were spilling into her ears. His soft smile welcomed her, and she nodded more times than perhaps was necessary as she looked up at him. "I'm sure I'll enjoy it, Mister Stone, because you've been a wonderful escort. I don't want to make all of your ladies friends jealous," She giggled, but followed him none the less - the way a good lady should. [twould be totally cute! X3 So very very cute. Let's do it. Do you want me to throw Mr Berlitz in or.. xD Yeah? xDD ]

He had nodded to agree with her on Steel-types weakness. However, discussing the tactics of battling would easily rope him into an entirely different set for his attention. She was young, and he had been a trainer for some time now – anything he said on the subject of pokemon battling risked flying straight over her head. Later in her life, he told himself, perhaps they could have that sort of discussion, after she’d worked with pokemon on her own for a couple of years. It would be a more entertaining conversation, anyway, rather than him simply appearing to lecture her on pokemon.

Before he knew it, their conversation had whisked to where he stood presently – hands out and ready to take hers. He led their dance as the music began, when the proper chord was struck. He moved slowly, keeping her hands gently held in his as they begin to move in a pattern similar to everyone surrounding them. ”If it would be reasonable in your time schedule, and your parents allowed you to do so, I would be flattered to have you in the audience, Miss Platinum.” he tells her with a smile. ”Of course, I wouldn’t be having you watch anything short of my best effort.”

Steven chuckles under his breath at her next words, before allowing the sound to turn into something comparable to a lower-toned laugh. ”What if I promised you that there are no lady-friends for me here tonight?” His smile grows slightly smaller, though not by much, ”I don’t know if there’s anybody else watching me from the audience, but here I don’t know anybody besides my father.” He steps to the side with her as the music directs him, ”Initially I was thinking about declining the offer…but I’m glad I didn’t. If I had, I wouldn’t have been graced with your presence.”

”…it’s been good to talk with you, Mr. Berlitz.” President Tsuwabuki says, happily shaking the man’s hand once more. ”But before we part, I’d like you to meet my son – and I’d love to meet young Platinum as well. Would you mind following me?” The enthusiastic man left little room for protest as he spins on his heel, edging his way along the outskirts of the crowd on the dance floor, looking every direction for his son.

”Ah! There’s Daigo!” He sees the silver hair of his son sticking above most of the other heads – bless the boy’s unexplained gene for height. ”He appears to be dancing with someone, as well. I’m sure he won’t mind.” The President gently pushes his way through the dance floor crowd, murmuring ‘excuse me’ to everyone he passes or brushes against as he nears his son.

blossom of snow Platinum would be lying if she said she wasn't thrilled by the prospect of seeing a wonderful, exciting battle of great strength. She had grown up among research and had learned much about it from books, but there was only a few rare moments where champions were really born, were really able to take over a role and she was one of the people who would like to have been there when history of a sort was made. She beamed up at him, and nodded in response. "I can hardly wait. Train hard so I can come and see, I would really, really love that." Momentarily she dropped that lady-like tone she tried to keep, the tone her mother encouraged, for one more suitable for someone so filled with childhood glee. She was certainly pleased with the outcome of that conversation. And the fact that they were dancing just added to the fun of everything. Platinum's eyes widened in delight and amusement as she spun around with the tunes, following her dancing partner's lead. "I guess it's nice to meet someone unexepected too. I'm really glad I got to dance with you, Steven." She giggled softly, taking a few moments to just enjoy the dance as it occurred. It was however, only a few moments, as Platinum's attention was diverted ever-so-suddenly to the sound of someone interested in their dance. She looked up, silvery-gold eyes catching sight of her father amongst the crowd. She managed to contain a squeak of delight as she waved him over, careful not to break the rhythm of the dance when she finally broke free of Steven and beamed between them. "Papa!" She breathed, curtseying as she spotted that there was another man there beside him. She glanced up at Steven with a smile, "This is my… friend-" Platinum tried the word and found it acceptable before continuing, "Steven! He was showing me how to dance properly. Hello, sir!" She added for the sake of the President, completely unaware of his status. Though obviously, for the party, he was someone important. "I see that, Platinum. You happen to be dancing with just the man I was looking forward to meeting, in fact. Daigo, I am Samuel Berlitz. Your father and I were just speaking, in fact. Quite the luck that we happened to meet in this instance, really." The head of the Berlitz company stated, offering a hand to the young Stone. He looked quite young still, though not quite as young as Steven. Cleanshaven and firm-jawed, he had a warm smile that was clearly where Platinum had gotten the grin that when she grew would be a rare delight.

"At least I'll have one fan in the crowd." he says with a small smile, unable to keep the full amount of laughter out of his voice that rose up in response to the burst of childlike enthusiasm that comes from the young Berlitz heir almost unexpectedly. "Now I can hardly wait for the day you and I will see each other in a battle arena - you in the stands and I on the floor. I'll be sure to take you out to dinner afterwards as well so we can talk."

His smile carries through her next words, and he only lets it fall when Platinum pulls away suddenly with a tiny squeak when something obviously catches her eye. What? He looks up when her hands release his own, and he suddenly feels himself stiffen with both surprise and slight nervousness when he recognizes the Devon Corp. President.

"Father!" he exclaims, just as Platinum calls for her own father. He straightens, stilling entirely and he lets his hands fall to the sides of his legs. He's rigid like a board.

Steven turns his steel-blue gaze to Mr. Berlitz when he's spoken to, not breaking eye contact once before his hand reaches forward as well, grasping the other man's in a firm handshake.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir." Steven says, bowing as well, "I've researched much about your successes in research - incredible, really, everything you've managed to accomplish since you got started in the field."

He glances at Platinum from his bowed state before he stands upright, hoping the use of his real name - 'Diago' - won't confuse her.

His father almost mirrors Mr. Berlitz as he bends over slightly with a hand extended towards the young girl. "Hello, Miss Platinum." he says smoothly, smiling at her warmly, "Though your father and I only ran into each other a short time ago earlier this evening, he has told me much about his beautiful daughter."

A natural charmer, he is.

blossom of snow "Mhmm!" Was the only reply she was able to muster, her look of joy explaination enough for how excited she truly was. Platinum, still young, did not quite know how she could express her level of eagerness without seeming too much like a child in the grown-up eyes of the people around her. It was, after all, a happening of chance that she was able to wander the party at all. "I will definitely definitely wear my best dress, I promise!" She cooed excitedly, just in time for everything to go slightly off kilter. Of course, Platinum had none of the restraint that Steven did around his father, and her hand slid instinctively to the side of her father's leg, still a child in some ways, if in others she did not act it. Eyes twinkled in confusion however, at the use of a name she was unfamiliar with. Daigo? But she had called him Steven, was she incorrect? A slight pout tugged at her lips, childlike in misunderstanding as she watched the exchange between the two men with both interest and disappointment. Did that mean he wasn't really her friend? Because she didn't know his real name? The glance from her dance partner gave her pause, however, as he still took the time to regard her. Maybe she wasn't wrong after all? Unaware of his daughter's inner turmoils, Samuel Berlitz let a professional smile creep onto his lips. "Your respect is appreciated, your father has told me to expect great things of you too, and I am certain I will come to in time. I do hope to see more of you in our fields." His voice, quiet and calm, was directed also at his companion. Samuel couldn't help but smile, however, as he noticed his daughter blushing at the charming President of Devon Corp. "Ah, Tsuwabuki, you make it sound as if I talk of nothing else. I cannot help but be proud of her though. Only six and she is clearly making friends in the best of places." Another bright blush - praise from her father was an uncommon thing - sprung up on Platinum's cheeks as she nodded eagerly. "Thankyou, Sir. Papa! Mmph!" She quietened herself to keep from gushing, unsure how to react to the praise from two very powerful men. "St-" she paused, "-Daigo has been showing me around for a little while, he is very kind too! I am very very glad to have met him!" She chimed, hoping it would be enough to please both men-- and make her sound less like a child.

”Yes sir.” Steven replies, allowing only a small smile to breach the otherwise seriousness of his held expression. ”I…” What could he say here? That he had another goal in mind prior to actually joining the field of intensive research? There was something else he would need to accomplish in his life before then – any other research he did with the stones he was so passionate about is simply for leisure. ”…I hope to not disappoint you.” His eyes turned briefly to his father before he glanced away, down to Platinum whose innocence almost hurt. He had yet to even tell his father directly that he did not have intentions to leap into the world of research and leading Devon Corp.

His troubled thoughts were caught off-track by his father’s laugh in response to the girl his gaze had fallen upon. ”Ah, has he gotten you to call him Steven already? No surprise there. He’s so quick to ask others to call him that!” The President chuckled again, ”Well – be it Steven or Daigo, whichever you’re more comfortable with. Good to hear that he’s treating you properly – I expected no less.” He regards both his son – a man, as he reminds himself – and young Platinum for a moment before turning back to Mr. Berlitz. ”Well, shall we carry on? Leave these two to themselves?”

Steven smiled weakly as his father nodded two him and the two men left as quickly as they had arrived once Berlitz finishes any last words (for the time) with his daughter. He glances over his shoulder as they vanish into the crowd before letting a breath out and looking back down at Platinum before he crouches to one knee in order to be on her level.

He clears his throat and quickly decides how to attempt to explain. ”I uh…hope you’re not too confused?” he asks, ”That usually happens. My real name is Daigo Tsuwabuki. But I’ve asked people to call me Steven for years…since I was about your age. I’ve introduced myself as Steven Stone for that long, too.”

blossom of snow Platinum stood, still bewildered, as her father gave her a soft pat on her head. She looked up briefly and smiled at him, glad that she had made her Papa proud at least, and that she hadn't disappointed him as she was always so worried about doing in these events. She shook a strand of hair out of her face as she watched the two older men make their way away from herself and her new friend, pondering over what the President had said. It was as if, however, Steven had read her mind and she looked over at the silvery-haired young man as he cleared his throat. "Oh, that makes more sense!" She conceded, giving him a quick nod as he explained. For a few weeks after her birthday, she had insisted everyone call her "Birthday Lady". Her youth had given them reason to allow her to continue until they had finally gone back to "Lady" and "Platinum". She had been slightly disappointed, but she knew that Birthday Lady wasn't quite the name that most people would use. "I was confused before, but I understand.. It means it's more you, right? It's a name that fits you better.. it's like if you had a shirt that was too big, you buy one the right size, right?" She smiled as she flattened her dress back out. "Thank you for explaining. I like being able to understand better." Platinum let a soft, childlike giggle out from within as she offered her companion her hand. "Do you think we could dance again for a little bit? It was really fun and I enjoyed dancing with you best of all, Steven." Eyes shining in wonderment and the adoration that could only come with a child making a new friend, she nodded excitedly.

Steven can’t help but chuckle with amusement at her comparison, though he admits she’s relatively close to understanding the point as a whole. Not bad. With a nod, he stands straight again and holds her gaze, looking down at her. ”I suppose, in a way, you could say that’s how someone can think of it.” He takes her hand politely and bows as he had earlier, like a knight to his queen.

”It would be my pleasure to continue a dance with you, Lady Platinum.” He hopes there will be no more interruptions for the rest of the night. The heir allows a smile to find its place in his expression when he looks back at her. ”Your compliment is very warming as well. I’m glad you’ve found our dance in your favor.” Steven straightens, free hand adjusting the ascot around his throat once more before he takes her other hand as he had earlier.

”Shall we?”
